OCEANN is the crème de la crème of ENTs in OC. Their approach is more integrative - something of utmost importance to me. They are familiar with MARCONS and fungal issues, while most ENTs are not. John and Dr. Yu were wonderful and very thorough - I felt no pain at all during the scopes even though they don't use anesthetic (whereas I almost died when I did one at another clinic). They even have huge TV screens so you can see what's going on in your ears and throat in realtime lol. Nurses and staff are great, too! Another bonus is their on-site Xoran mini CT scan machine. I was able to get a CT of my sinuses right then and there, with reduced radiation exposure. They checked my ear pressure as well. Thanks! read more

I'm so glad I decided to see an ENT for my ear issues. After my care physician had mentioned my clogged ears, I found OCEANN through my Memorial Care portal search, and I'm so happy I did. The office is conveniently located in Huntington Beach, with plenty of parking and easy access. For perspective, I have insurance, I can go to an ENT in my network in which there are plenty with great reviews and who would not cost me a dime to see. But while I was researching those options, I came across OCEANN, I saw great reviews of the office and Dr Yu-Syken. Now I have been dealing with some chronic and personally embarrassing issues that have made me seek out an ENT that would have the excellence to perhaps go beyond the basic evaluation and care that is typical of most doctors these days. However, that is not what I experienced today with this office and doctor. When I arrived (15 minutes early btw), I approached the front desk and spoke with a younger female who came across almost condescending and was rather unwelcoming. She asked for my ID and insurance card, I reminded her I was a cash patient. Then she went over my forms and pointed out that I had initialed the part of the form that rejected a certain diagnostic test, I disagreed and she told me that I did and impatiently directed me to fill the form out with other needed information. Considering I was there for all the bells and whistles promised to me as a cash patient, I wasn't rejecting any treatment. I really wanted to comment on her attitude but I have been working on being more understanding and patient myself, so I reminded myself it was Monday and considered that hers may not have started off nicely so I sat down and did as I was told. Then she informed me that I needed to pay the $400 cash price, I asked if we could settle at the end, as I have done so in other occasions wine I have paid cash. With more condescension, she said no and that's how they do it. I get it, it was just a question, but that certainly put me off even more and I should have listened to my intuition as this visit was one $400 disappointment! However, the only highlight of the visit came while I was called in for the appointment. A delightful young woman led me back to the room. She was welcoming and engaged. She did the intake and provided excellent customer service as well as conversation. She left and I waited about 10 minutes before the doctor walked in, she brought her assistant or transcriber with her and proceeded to ask a couple of questions. It felt rushed from the start, i tried to offer more information and voice my concerns but it was like she just wanted to get me in and get me out. While scoping my nose and ears she gave me a simple diagnosis and was almost ready to push me out until I advocated for myself and informed her of symptoms I'd been experiencing. She said she didn't see a need for the scan (that is included in the consultation) but then I gave more information and she, what seemed reluctantly, agreed to a scan. So then they moved me to the other room, scanned me, then she came in read the results to her assistant, and pretty much said it was allergies and that I had a slight infection. My $400 bought me a 1/2 hour of sub-par service. It felt as though I was just the next thing to be inspected on the assembly line. A wam bam thank you mam! Of course like most doctors do now, I was assigned an assortment of meds, and then told at the checkout desk, that my follow up would not be as much as today's appointment , as It would only be $200. Follow up for what? So you can ask me if the pills worked? I am so disappointed, I feel like a fool for thinking that real medical CARE from doctors who listen and are willing to investigate beyond default diagnosis could be derived from yelp, google, etc reviews and professional kudos and accomplishments. If this would have been the care received from a doctor paid for my insurance, I would understand and defer to the fact that mediocrity plagues the American healthcare system. But when I pay $400 of hard earned cash, and I know it may not be a lot for most but for me it is, and I did so out of desperation to have this one debilitating condition further investigated, I expect to be treated better than just another transaction where you try to maximize profit by eliminating as many costs as possible (time, not performing all services agreed upon for the consultation, etc). If you are a cash patient, take your health and money elsewhere. For the young lady at the front desk, I hope you have a better day and life for that matter.For the the intake lady, thank you for being excellent and the warmth of the office, you are an asset. For Dr. Yu, thank you for the lesson, I wish you all the best. From my first day, Stephanie walked me through ENT anatomy posters and care. John offered to perform an exam on me so I could experience what it's like to be a patient. This place charged me $300 to remove Wax from my Ears and did not do anything on my first Visit but then scheduled me for a second visit and them tried to charge me again another $300! I was referred to Oceann ent by my friend. My family doctor kept sending me home saying they didn't see anything wrong but my ear was throbbing so I came here. They have the tools that family doctors don't have like a better scope that displays on the TV screen. They put the scope on my ear/nose and found that I had a pretty bad sinus and ear infection. I also have really bad allergies all year long, itchy throat, sneezing, with itchy ear and postnasal drips. The Physician Assistants were very thorough and showed me how inflamed my ear was. My sinus surgery experience was outstanding. Never once did I feel any pain. In fact I held a conversation with the doctor some of the time. I was amazed that you don't feel anything. During the surgery Dr. Yu explains step by step the surgery procedure so there isn't any surprises. After Dr. Yu completes her job she stays with you to explain what she did. Dr. Yu is a one of a kind surgeon with many years experience, and I want to say that I am so happy I found her. I've had a chronic sinus condition most of my life. After visiting several ENTs I was lucky enough to be referred to OCEANN ENT from a friend, and given the fact that I have had allergies and sinus problems my whole life I decided to give them a try. The examination was thorough and the visit was efficient and both providers John Vincent as well as the Dr. Yu were very approachable and patient in answering all of my questions. Since I didn't improve on maximal medical management, I decided to move forth with an IN-OFFICE Sinus procedure called Balloon Sinuplasty. Procedure went smooth and I was comfortable throughout, and the results have been life-changing. Because I do have a high deductible insurance, my portion of the payment for the procedure was quite a bit, but well worth every cent of her expertise!!! I see some other low star reviews on Yelp, and it seems that a lot of them have had good results but were not happy with the price point. Dr Yu has been very reasonable in negotiating my balance with me, and I'm highly appreciative of that consideration given these difficult COVID. Of note during my research, she was one of the only Sinus Surgeons in Orange County that has the capacity to continue performing in office sinus procedures as she as not as dependent on hospital services for admission. The best ENT I've ever seen. For years various docs would do scope and steroid sprays and nothing ever worked. She was the first doc to run imaging and a full work up including meds and a nasal rinse that works SO much better than the salt water rinses from the store. Dr Yu-Syken is amazing. After years of dealing with sinus issues and always being sick. She knew the problem and fix. Fast forward 6 years, started having minor sinus issues and got worried that my turbinates grew back. I arrive 20 mins early, waited maybe 15 mins. She came in with a big hug. Turns out to be a really bad sinus infection. She even waited with my 4 year old outside the room while I had a CT scan. I've seen a lot of doctors over the years. A huge shout out to the OCEANN ENT Staff. Not only is Dr. Yu-Syken a great ENT specialist, her staff is awesome. I came down with a sinus infection last weekend and had trouble breathing. I had the Balloon Sinuplasty & Eustation Tube procedure and it was fantastic. The procedure is virtually painless and Dr Yu-Syken even let's you watch the live procedure on a TV screen which is great. Very little downtime. It totally opened my left ear fullness that I had for decades and can even breathe much better! I can now "pop" my left ear open which I never could before! Highly recommend! read more

Dr Yu and her staff at Ocean ENT are so amazing and kind. I had many years of sinus infections that would lead to ear infections which would turn into vertigo. It's was awful! Dr Yu solved all of that by doing the balloon surgery to open up my sinuses so they could drain. She also had me checked for sleep apnea and she also helped me with that. She is very knowledgeable and helpful. I'm so grateful to be able to get my life back with her help and some great nutrition that she can tell you about as well. read more

Dr. Yu- Syken is very good WHEN you can be lucky enough to get to see her. Mostly you can expect to be seen by the PA's which are good for routine exams. In my experience the service of the staff has slipped significantly. It's very difficult to find time during the day to have to call a medical office, be placed on hold, only to find out that you need to call back AGAIN because they did not follow up on the concern in the first call. I've place 2 calls to get 2 prescriptions sent in over the last 3 weeks. In another instance, after a PA visit, I had to wait one week for a prescription to get called in for a sinus infection. I was miserable and I had to call then as well. The service here is mediocre at best. When you're not feeling well, and you have to wait a week for meds, that's not great. My pharmacist said they sent multiple requests with no response which is why I had to call myself. Oh, and the best part: they explain how busy they've been when you complain about nothing being followed through on. read more

I love Dr. Yu! She is amazing. She took care of me years ago with my sinus and allergy problems. I ended up having surgery and she really took the time to figure out what needed to be done. Anytime you need her she's there! Now.. years later I reached out as I've had congestion and ear blockage for over a month! She instantly took charge to find solutions to these issues. She did tests in her office, sent me to a hearing doctor for more tests. I came out and was very upset since my right ear has hearing damage and texted her the info! I had surgery done on my nose and can now breathe and sleep better than I have in years. She is extremely caring and shows all her patients compation along with top notch medical care. After a follow up visit, to include some imaging that likely costs my insurance a ton of money; I was met with your textbook diagnostic flowchart of more medications and see-me-in-a-month appointment. The PA also used the same scripted response THREE TIMES: "Are you happy with your visit and do you understand what we discussed today?" I'm sorry but this isn't an ENT clinic designed to solve problems but rather is designed to extract resources from your insurance provider. Called almost 50 ENT in the area to try to get an appointment, the closest one was 3weeks away, I even called a place where they advertised appointments within 24hrs. I had an in-office ballon sinus procedure done to open up my sinuses after having sinus infections year after year. I was pleasantly surprised on how painless it was. I had heard horror stories from family members of their past surgeries at other offices and this new technology is just amazing. Go here if you want: people that never follow up with you, long wait times and appointments months in advance. They are also using an inefficient paper trail system and seem to never be able to find out anything and can't even fax doctor orders to the imaging center. First off, I just wanted to commend the brave providers and support staff at OCEANN ENT for providing access to appropriate medical and surgical care for sinus and ENT patients during this precarious time. I am a healthcare provider myself and know how difficult it has been for all my colleagues during the added challenge of having to operate safely during the pandemic. I am impressed by the additional precautions the practice has taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19. I was lucky enough to have improved on my extended antibiotic course Dr. Yu prescribed and am feeling much more energetic with reduced sinus headaches. My colleague who referred me to Dr. Yu had needed surgery- Dr. Yu performed her In-Office Balloon Sinuplasty, and I saw how much better she felt and performed after the efficient management of her sinus condition. I'm not quite sure why there are some low star reviews but I would definitely redirect my attention to Reviews of Dr. Yu's practice OCEANN ENT on Google as it seems like a much more realistic representation of how this practice runs. Dr. Yu gives 110% of her effort to her patients and her practice and so does her PA John Vincent! I'm definitely proof of that! Prices seemed reasonable to me for the quality of care that is delivered, but that could depend on an individual's insurance responsibilities such as copays and deductibles as well. read more

Dr Yu saved me!!! The office manager Antoinette was an angel and very accommodating. Once I arrived in the room for my appointment Dr Yu made me feel immediately at ease. Was very thorough in getting the information for the reason for my visit. I am not totally healed and am in the process of finding out more but as far as my sinus infection and pain/headaches, they are gone!! I really like she prescribed natural suppliments to help with my symptoms. She did not go straight to antibiotics, she helped me heal with OTC meds and two prescriptions to ease my discomfort. I didn't feel she slapped a band-aid on me but really wanted to cure me. I go in for a follow-up and am looking forward to our next step in my recovery.
