Apparently all the reviews about their scheduling/desk staff is correct. I kept trying to use their "hold my place in line" feature when calling in and never get a call back. After a week of this, I finally opted to just sit on hold. Turns out they never have a massive queue, the wait is never more than a few minutes. But the staff is an absolute nightmare. Today I spoke with "Hamza" and he talked really quietly unless he was talking over me (which he did the whole time) and refused to make any changes after I explained I have an Auditory Processing Disorder. He then put me on hold to speak to a colleague, left me on hold for nearly 10 minutes then returned to say I needed to send an email. I don't have an email address for them and when I asked why he couldn't schedule me if he's a scheduling operator is because his colleague said they needed my referral first. I told him I have a PPO and don't need one but I can provide contact for the 3 doctors that made the reco I speak to a neurologist if they need. He said his colleague thought I had an HMO - I asked why he would think that and he didn't answer just said he would schedule me. I asked with who and he gave a name I didn't recognize. I asked him to stop, please because it was clear there'd been some miscommunication. He hadn't even taken my insurance so he'd be scheduling blind AND I was calling to get the availability for a specific neurologist at their location. When he again interrupted and reverted to speaking at an inconsistent pace/volume I stated this clearly wasn't working and asked if he could transfer me to someone else. He said yes, put me back on hold, and then rerouted me to the main menu instead. With no other option I re-entered the queue for scheduling operators only to wait my turn and be hung up on. I have since called back at least 5 times, and tried an alternate number for the office I found online. Every time, I wait in the queue, and then when my turn comes, I'm hung up on. I'm sure Hamza thinks he's hilarious but I will be reporting the behavior to my insurance company, and the ADA at bare minimum. I guarantee this behavior is not limited to his phone interactions and if this is how he treats someone with an APD, I cannot imagine how he treats stroke survivors and those with significant cognitive impairment. read more

Absolutely Horrible Patient service!! They are all about your money but terrible on patient care. Dr. Vassef makes you wait at least one hour+ to be seen even though you are her first patient after lunch and not the first time this has happen. I got tired of waiting for my test results for my lunch is only so long and I need my job. I set up a telephone appointment to get my results two weeks ago at the suggestion of the receptionists. She said it would be faster and today I get a call they they dont do that any longer because the insurance carriers dont pay for it. I told them that these are test results that I already paid for and I should not have to pay for them again but was willing to if they billed me but was not going into the office. This review is strictly about the staff (front & back administrative & MAs), not Dr. Yafeh. There is a stereotype in the medical field that specialists have impudent office staff. I suspect it's because specialists are so busy with their patient load that they do not have the time to exercise the business owner role. Sure they hire office managers but 99.9% of the time the office managers befriend their colleagues and it becomes a self-protecting circle. The office staff here are the epitome of this phenomenon. When Dr. Yafeh walked into the office their voices perked up, they start small talk with her, and act very delightful. When Dr. Yafeh wasn't present, it was a very off-putting environment. As my mother's caregiver, I've always been taken aback by how rude the staff can be, even during a simple phone call to make an appointment. Regardless we initially stuck with Dr. Yafeh because she was my mom's Neurologist during acute rehab. Our family wanted my mom's care to be seamless so we just accepted the staff's behavior. I am saddened by the thought of elderly patients who have to navigate this on their own. Back during the Covid-19 pandemic there was a final straw that unfortunately prompted us to switch practices. This was during the time when your temperature was being taken. I worked from home and my mom had all of her physical therapy canceled. We were inside, as most Americans, and I only went outside to grocery shop once every 3 weeks. This was our first time leaving the house in 2.5 weeks. The young lady at the front wished to remain seated as she checked temperatures. She held the forehead thermometer about a foot away while pointing it toward the ceiling (it was a comical angle) causing the thermometer to throw an error code initially and then an inaccurate high grade fever number 105. I explained that forehead thermometers will not work from 12 inches away but still, she refused and couldn't be bothered to stand to perform it correctly. Manufacturer instructions advise 2-3 inches away from the forehead. Ultimately she turned us away. Keep in mind that if my mom, an elderly major-stroke patient, indeed had a 105 degree fever she wouldn't be in the condition to be standing there checking in, she would be bed ridden waiting to be transported to the ER. I can't imagine how many innocent patients she must have wrongly sent home during this time, denying them from care. Upon leaving the office we saw that the imaging center down the hall was checking temperatures properly. Meaning there was a staff member standing outside scanning people's foreheads within 2-3 inch range. They were not seated behind their plexiglass barrier desks pointing the thermometer 12+ inches away up in the air. Lo and behold the imaging technician told us my mom is 97.1 degrees, 3 separate times to be sure. Once I got home I called in hoping to speak to Dr. Yafeh directly to tell her about what transpired but I was met with the same lady. By this time she must have known she was in the wrong so she refused to even let me leave a message. She probably had an epiphany after realizing all of the patients she scanned that day had temperature readings off the charts (high or low). She stated we will need to wait until we reschedule and speak to Dr. Yafeh in person, no phone call will be allowed. So shady. Luckily at the time Dr. Yafeh had a second office and they gladly got me to Dr. Yafeh directly, no questions asked. I did not want my mom, once she became independent, to have to face this staff alone, without someone advocating for her. I switched her to another practice and it was a night and day difference. Even the way the staff greets you on the phone at this new practice made us realize it was a mistake waiting that long to explore our options, they treated us like humans. read more

In 2015 I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. I was in the hospital for several months and in that time, Dr. Yafeh became like an extended family member. She is more than just a neurologist or doctor, she truly cares about her patients. You never feel like you are being rushed or that she needs to move on to her next patient. Dr. Yafeh always gives you her undivided attention, listens, and ask questions. I feel very seen and heard, and that is priceless! Having a stroke at age 42 was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. Dr. Yafeh has been a key factor on my road to recovery. Additionally, the entire office staff at NeuroMedical Group are incredibly helpful and friendly. read more

Horrible patient service!! Non responsive, unprofessional, and poorly managed. Roxanne the manager, very unprofessional and is clearly not concerned about patient service. Place is nasty and outdated. I tried to become a new patient- this made that experience impossible. Nobody picks up the phone to provide directions, to answer questions at all. I couldn't find the building because the directions weren't specific enough due to them sharing a building with Saint Mary's. Tried to call for 1.5 hours, no answer. When I finally did find the office, Manager was unsympathetic. She acted like she was being bothered as did the medical assistant. They make you stand in the hallway while answering your questions. We have been going to this office since 2016. I'm not sure if there was an office staff change or what but this whole year has been awful dealing with the office managers to get refills. My mother goes through a patient assistance program which has its own pharmacy. Anything that has to do with refilling her prescriptions through them is a mess. Amy, who is in charge of medication hates her job and is outright rude to the pharmacy as well as me whenever a refill is needed. She has hung up on both me & the pharmacy. I finally called & spoke to the other office manager, Cynthia who only cares about covering for Amy and was unhelpful in resolving the issues to get my mom's anti-seizure meds refilled. At this point, my mom is out of her medication and her prescription still has yet to be refilled. There's no oversight and they just get away with being incompetent. My advice is to find a different office. Don't go through what I am. read more

I saw Dr. Aboutalib and he was vary unprofessional. his was asked me about political medical questions that I will don't care about. then he asked me THE SAME 3-4 questions about my incontinence (in which he brought it up) , i don't have. last he want to know another doctor in wish i understand why I have no problem with it. but how he said it was odd. he ask me what were, and how something like that. for the staff they was very professional for the most part with minor issues, part of it my fault too. they answer all my question and they was on top of it. the only issue I have is they did not confirm me my MRI appointment. they just schedule it for me that. Incredibly rude office staff led by Office Manager Cynthia, who hung up on me while I was trying to schedule an appointment for my elderly mother after an emergency hospital stay. Canceled scheduled office visits the day on more than one occasion. Sent incorrect information to Memorial Imaging Center causing us to have to bring my mother in for testing twice, then "didn't have" the results for two follow up appointments. Tests were in July/August of 2021 and we still do not have the results. At final office visit when results were still not available Dr. Vassef's response was, "I just came back from maternity leave, I don't know what you expect me to do. Dr. Vassef has been helpful but didn't have a great office experience today. I understand that doctors do get over booked and runs late. Really disappointed in how her staff handled my concern of the doctor running over an hour late. The first time I asked if Dr.Vassef was going to see me, they said one patient was ahead of me, then I asked a second time because it was coming up an hour and the receptionists were on their lazy butts on their phones and rolled their eyes. What awful receptionists and patient customer care!!! Ive been a receptionist myself at a physical therapy clinic and when a patient has been waiting I try to check on them and keep them updated on their physical therapist status if I could. Dr.Vassef didn't really seem to care when I told her I was waiting a bit too long. So really disappointed and don't think I am coming back more so of the lack of professionalism from the receptionist staff. Dr Aboutailb is incredibly kind and patient. Thank God I found him. He listens and has amazing bedside manners. He figured out that I was suffering with post concussion syndrome when nobody else noticed and left me without answers. He cared enough to do the groundwork to help me as much as possible. Took me 6 months or better before the headaches and spinning slowed down. He was extremly empathetic. Forever grateful for his kind and carrying way. His staff his were extremely sweet to me as well. read more

I had my first appointment with Dr. Yafeh a few months ago, and since I began the treatment that she has recommended, my migraines have significantly decreased. I really appreciated her thoroughness and direct approach, after quite a few years of bad experiences with neurologists trying to treat my migraines. I wanted to write this review on behalf of Dr. Yafeh and Diane, the very nice woman who assists with authorizations for MRI's and other procedures that need approvals. My insurance company is making this extremely difficult, and my schedule isn't helping, yet Diane is constantly available, pleasant, and eager to help get the issue resolved. I met with Dr. Saheil Aboutalib, M.D., last week. He is a Diplomate in neurology and is Board Certified in neurology as well as in psychiatry. In my situation, this is a plus. My initial visit was to follow-up on my essential tremor syndrome and cubital tunnel syndrome that I've had for a number of years. My previous neuro has handled this quite adeptly. However, he's in Santa Monica. As with all my docs in those waters, he does not accept my current coverage. Some don't accept insurance at all so I saw them on a cash basis. Imagine? At one time I could do that! Anywho, I also wanted to follow-up on the compression .v decompression surgery I had in late August, 2017. It's basically behaving as it was diagnosed. Why should I expect better? Right? Dr. Aboutalib noticed something else that is concerning and could be indicative of a number of conditions. It's definitely not 'nothing.' One of these conditions is especially concerning. We will address the zebra v. horse hoofprints in the snow after more diagnostics are completed. I've complete confidence in Dr. Aboytalib and the staff at Neurological Medicine Neurodiagnostics. The office is in one of the POB's of St. Mary's. read more

Appallingly inept and rude front desk staff have sparked my decision to go elsewhere. This is unfortunate, because the doctor is excellent.

Dr Vassef is the worst doctor I have ever encountered. She is abrupt, impatient, and becomes irritable if she has to repeat herself or thoroughly explain something. To quote her, "I don't normally call patients 4 days later just to repeat myself. I suggest you take notes next time." I would love to take notes- if my brain was functioning properly. I understand that doctors don't always have the greatest bedside manner and can be a little dry, but she lacks compassion for people in delicate situations like this. During my follow up, she was rushed- and only wanted answers to HER questions. Not much concern for how I was feeling or what had occurred in the 6 wks since I last saw her. If I didn't have to spend 5 minutes jogging her brain about my case, while she hurriedly skimmed through her notes, she would've had more time to dedicate to MY needs as a patient. I have never been that scared about my health in my life, and Dr Vassef did nothing to help navigate me through it. read more

What a nightmare!! Every time we have been here it has been a waste of time. There's no point to scheduling an appointment - you will have to wait at least an hour. The staff is unapologetic and disinterested. All we ever need from this Dr is a refill of a Kepra prescription and to sit in a waiting room, exposed to COVID and elderly patients for 35 minutes and now stuck in a room for another 40 is atrocious. Would like to confirm front desk staff is very rude. I had the displeasure of speaking to nurse AMY who was curt and condescending when I asked questions, as if I was bothering her. I am very thankful to have found this group. I have been under the care of Dr Vassef, she is tremendous, caring, professional, patient: she is extremely thorough. Has allowed me to take detailed notes during visits and answers all my questions. She is truly a partner in your care, she has made me feel very comfortable during an unsettling time. Yes, they may run a little late for appts. But it's because DR doesn't rush and takes time with her patients- I rather run late and have a great doctor than be rushed to 'keep on schedule'. Lets start with the staff, I adore Sandra, Michelle and then there is Sheryl, she always goes above and beyond to assist you. She does EVERYTHING and always greets you with a beautiful smile and calls you by your first name. Now, Dr. Paños Marmarelis is absolutely the very best. I have been seeing him since 2011. He is worth the wait. He told me the very first time I saw him he would stick with me until we reached a diagnosis, and he has. In 2013 I started taking medicine for Parkinson's. He is so patient, compassionate and answers questions in a way you can understand. He has almost eliminated my seizures. If I need a same day appointment, Sandra always fits me in. I would highly recommend Dr. Marmarelis to anyone needing an EXCELLENT neurologist. read more
