He made sure to connect the L2-4 even though he didn't do L3&4 and made sure to recheck them too. He also made sure that I was good before allowing the hospital to discharge me. I was so glad he did because it made recuperating at home easier and experienced no problems. His staff were great to in coordinating everything for the surgery. After care is great too as he explains everything to me. Even giving me physical therapy to help me get my strength back. I did choose Southland Physical Therapy in Long Beach because my therapist, Sami had received great feedback for Dr Yuan from his other clients who had surgery with Dr Yuan. I highly recommend Dr Yuan for any back issues.

After numerous attempts to get information about my case, I asked to speak with an office manager and was told that someone would return my call. That call never came. I called back two additional times and left messages for the office manager, and I still received no response. Communication with Dr. Warden's nurse was similarly difficult. On at least four separate occasions, I was told I would receive a return call, but those calls never happened. The lack of communication has now reached the point where I am seeking another provider to perform the knee surgery I need. Nearly six weeks after initially contacting this office, I still do not have a clear surgery schedule or a satisfactory understanding of where things stand. Unfortunately, the customer service experience begins the moment you call the office. The initial person answering the phone consistently came across as disengaged and uninterested in helping. When someone is dealing with a significant knee injury and trying to coordinate necessary surgery, basic communication and follow-through are extremely important. I understand that medical offices can be busy and that scheduling surgery involves multiple steps. However, repeatedly promising return calls and then failing to make them is unacceptable. After nearly six weeks of trying to obtain answers, I have lost confidence in this office's ability to manage my care effectively and have decided to pursue treatment elsewhere. I hope this feedback is taken seriously because the medical care itself is only one part of a patient's experience. I've had back issues and intermittent pain throughout my adult years…read more Whenever it got intolerable I resorted to acupuncture and/or chiropractic care and on a few occasions epidurals. Someone cutting on my back was not anything I was receptive to. When sciatic episodes became more frequent and longer lasting and I was forced to postpone scheduled knee replacement surgery I reluctantly decided to again consult an orthopedic surgeon. After initial consultation, x-rays and MRI I had follow up appointment with Dr. Bhalla to discuss options. He recommended surgery. Still reluctant to go that route I opted for another try with an epidural, but to to no avail. Back to Dr. Bhalla who told me the problems were going to continue to get worse so at age 73 I finally agreed to surgery. Lower lumber fusion surgery was performed at Long Beach Memorial Hospital by Dr. Bhalla and Dr. Rao (vascular surgeon). Anterior Lumber Interbody Fusion (ALIF) and laminectomy surgeries were performed on Monday and Thursday of the same week. The week in the hospital (overall very good care and treatment) and first 2 weeks at home I experienced moderate pain and discomfort but nothing intolerable. After 2 weeks of light rehab at home I started physical therapy program. After several weeks of PT my back felt really good. It has been nearly one year since the surgery and other than minimal discomfort during the initial recovery period I have experienced no back pain! From the initial consultation through the post-op visits Dr. Bhalla thoroughly explained all the options, the details of the surgical procedure, the recovery and rehabilitation process and patiently answered all my questions. Dr. Bhalla is a compassionate and highly skilled physician and surgeon! And, kudos to his very competent and kind office staff. While back surgery is a last resort, if there is no other viable way to address your pain and problems Dr. Bhalla is the surgeon for you.

I had a successful left hip replacement 2.5 years ago by another surgeon who used a more universal posterior approach with MAKO robotic assist, so I have a good point of comparison. Dr. Wassef uses the DSA (Direct Superior Approach) with MAKO robotic assist which is currently a less common method due to the specific training and technique required to do this approach (google DSA to see differences). In simple terms i have been blown away at how minimally invasive this approach seems to be. Without a doubt, to date, this technique has been less painful than my previous hip. I am so impressed at how quickly I was walking normally without a walker or cane and without any limp. At 2 weeks in I am in PT doing exercises that i could not get to many many weeks beyond the 2 week point with my previous hip. Incision is quite small as well but i am not a "meaty" guy so not sure what allowed me to have such a small incision. Lastly I have NO problem taking narcotic pain meds like oxycodone! I'm not an abuser but definitely a willing user if need be. After this surgery I had real trouble justifying much of any use of the Oxy prescribed. I easily survived on two 500 mg tabs of Tylenol 2x's a day once in AM and once before bed. Thanks Doc.

She had gone from being healthy and independent to suffering severe dizziness, slurred speech, loss of coordination, profound weakness, and eventually an inability to function normally. Despite extensive testing and evaluations at multiple facilities, we still did not have a clear explanation for what was happening to her. Dr. Yafeh did not give up on her. What stands out to me most is that Dr. Yafeh continued looking for an explanation when the obvious answers were not working. The records show that my wife had already undergone extensive brain and spine imaging, EMG testing, antibody testing and IVIG treatment without a satisfactory diagnosis or meaningful improvement. Instead of dismissing an extraordinarily complicated case, Dr. Yafeh pursued the possibility of a serious autoimmune neurological disorder. She treated my wife aggressively. Then came what our family considers the critical turning point. During this neurological investigation, imaging revealed a suspicious right axillary lymph node and an abnormality in the right breast. Dr. Yafeh continued to push the investigation forward, including biopsy of the suspicious lymph node. The biopsy ultimately revealed metastatic carcinoma, and the records show that hematology/oncology and breast surgery were brought into the case and chemotherapy was initiated during that hospitalization. Dr. Yafeh also recognized the potential connection between the newly discovered cancer and my wife's devastating neurological condition. Her documentation specifically describes the neurological symptoms as a paraneoplastic syndrome and anticipated that treating the cancer could help bring the neurological disease under control. That is why it is difficult for me to describe what Dr. Yafeh did for our family simply as "good medical care." From our perspective, her persistence helped uncover a cancer that had not previously been identified while my wife's neurological condition was becoming progressively disabling. At the same time, she treated the autoimmune neurological process aggressively rather than waiting for every unanswered laboratory test to come back. My wife subsequently began the long road toward recovery. Today, when I look back at how sick my wife was and how uncertain her future appeared, I cannot separate that recovery from the persistence, clinical judgment and determination Dr. Yafeh demonstrated during those critical weeks. There were many physicians, nurses, therapists, oncologists and other medical professionals involved in my wife's care, and I will always be grateful to them. But Dr. Banafsheh Yafeh holds a very special place in our family's story. She took my wife's condition seriously. She kept searching when the diagnosis was unclear. She recognized that something much larger could be occurring. She treated the neurological disease aggressively.
