My 34 year old nephew was taken to the hospital upon being discovered nearly non-responsive at home. That is when Dr. Farin came into our lives, and we couldn't be more grateful that she is his neurosurgeon. After having diagnosed him as having hadca hemorrhagic stroke, she was a constant source of honesty and determination. She never failed to contact my sister, to discuss my nephew's next step. She and her team performed multiple procedures and things weren't looking very good at the time, but she promised us that they would do everything humanly and inhumanly possible for my nephew. A doctor on staff at the hospital was had mentioned the next step they thought should be taken by my sister becausethey said he had only a 1% chance of surving one of the major procedures, but Dr. Farin said absolutely not, it was way too soon to make that call and she still had various treatments or procedures that were going to take place if needed. Having been told her son only hadca 1% chance to survive, and even if he did he would most likely not be able to communicate with anyone, and with my his mother's consent, Dr. Farin proceeded to work her magic and perform a miracle!!!She, along with her team and MOST of the ICU staff at the hospital, his mother and girlfriend, my nephew was was no longer on life support and things began to look up. After about 5 weeks in ICU he was moved to a regular hospital room, where he is making great progress daily. Today he stood up with the assistance of his physical therapist. But here we are, 7 weeks after being told there was a 99% probability of him being paralyzed and unable to communicate, he standing and literally shifting himself into gear for his next achievement!!! And none of this would have been possible had it not been for Dr. Farin and her immense desire to give her patients EVERYTHING humanly possible and then some. We are eternally thankful that not only my nephew has Dr. Farin, but others who need such a fantastic, caring, kind and diligent physician. This world needs more doctors were liker her, she is truly a miracle worker. I have several serious back disorders and had put off surgery for seven years, using four medications to manage the increasing pain. When it became unbearable, my primary care physician referred me to Dr. Farin. Other doctors I consulted along the way were familiar with Dr. Farin, and encouraged me to consult with her should I decide on surgery. Although I am almost 70, I had an active life that was on hold due to the severe pain. Discussion at my first appointment with Dr. Farin let me know that I would need surgery, and I knew then that she would be the one to perform it. I am almost eight weeks out from a hemilaminotomy, and I am on my way back to a normal life. Although the surgery was much more extensive than originally thought, the pain is gone and I am resuming the activities that had been on hold before the surgery. Of course, I am extremely happy with the results of the surgery, but what impressed me the most was/IS Dr. Farin herself. At every appointment before and after the surgery, I never left without a complete explanation of every aspect of the visit and information about the surgery, with her gaining acknowledgement of my understanding. She was right there every day of my hospitalization, immediately addressed any concern, and promptly returned every call I made to her via phone or email. I have never had such a responsive doctor. I remember asking her a question during a post-surgery visit while she was standing behind me, checking my incision. She moved right around me to look at me while answering the question. Maybe this would not seem important to other patients, but it was to me. This type of surgery is intimate and traumatic to the body and mind, and knowing that Dr. Farin sees me as a person, rather than just another back, is helping me through it. When I arrived at Long Beach Memorial Hospital by ambulance, I was in the worst pain in my life. An hour before I had been at Dr. Azadeh Farin office at the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for a presurgery consultation and preop. Dr. Farin's physician assistant, P.A. Murphy, suggested to my wife that I get to the hospital immediately. I had been bedridden for four weeks due to what had been diagnosed as an L4-L5 herniated disc, which was applying pressure to my sciatic nerve. The pain expressed itself in my right leg on the lateral side below my knee and the left side of my right foot. Between the pain and the pain-relief drugs I was taking, I lost the entire month of September--I remember little except the pain during that time. After dealing with other issues that I had developed while I had been bedridden--two blood clots in my right leg and two blood clots in my right lung, Dr. Farin, the neurological surgeon, with P.A. Murphy assisting, performed surgery to repair the disc and relieve the pressure on my sciatic nerve. The next morning, when I awoke, I got out of my hospital bed and stood, and to my greatest relief, felt no pain whatsoever. Even the tiny incision in my lower back presented no pain. After suffering such debilitating pain, I was overcome with such a feeling of reprieve and happiness. Dr. Farin had restored me to a functioning human being again. Dr Farin saw me at one of the lowest parts of my life. I had surgery December 14, 2021. A Laminectomy and Fusion for 2 pinched nerves on my left leg that kept me in pain and barely walking. Unfortunately the surgery was not successful and the pain and hurting to walk came back. I went to see the Spine Specialist to let him know I was hurting so bad and he said"we did everything right!" And proceeded to walk out the door. I knew at this point I needed a second opinion and was referred to Dr Farin. As I sat there depressed, crying and in pain she walked in and pulled her stool up right next to me and said "I'm going to investigate this and do all in my power to help you." She immediately started many tests and one was a Milogram which her a professional Radiologist reviewed and found I had bone spurs and other things that weren't properly done. In other words she had to "clean up the mess that was left." She went over everything with me in depth. She immediately got me in surgery on June 6th. When I saw her after surgery I had a smile on my face because I knew she had worked hard to correct everything and I had grown to trust her immensely. She noticed the smile and commented that she had never seen me smile. I hadn't even walked yet but something told me I was finally going to be ok. And I was! She gave me hope back, trust back, my smile back and my leg back so I could walk. I've only been home almost 2 weeks but I'm walking, I'm smiling and my faith in her as a surgeon is more than I can express. Dr Farin gave me my life back! I have suffered with low back pain for years and it has continued to grow worse. My husband and I retired in June and traveled to Europe in Sept-Oct to celebrate. The trip was dramatically impacted by my degenerating back. Upon my return, my PCP ordered an MRI and it was the beginning of my journey. I was referred to Dr. Farin in December, where she reviewed the MRI and all my tests and came up with a comprehensive plan. I just wasn't ready to jump into surgery without trying any alternatives. Dr. Farin put NO pressure on me and authorized epidural injections, hoping they would have a positive effect, but not having much hope. After 3 painful injections, I eagerly returned to her office begging to do surgery! March 7, 2017, was the big day and I was SO ready! Surgery was a little more complicated as my spine was slightly twisted and the landmarks were not where they belonged. Dr. Farin along with Makell Murphy, PA, spent 5 hrs fusing, reinforcing 2 compression fractures, 1 laminectomy, and digging out nerve roots and freeing up impinged nerves and spinal cord. A complete miracle of healing, the first time out of bed and all the nerve pain was gone AND I could stand straight again! I am 2 wks post op (the staples aren't even out yet) and I'm already building back my strength and out by myself for short outing like nails or a pedicure! I originally was scheduled to be seen by another neurosurgeon for a possible laminectomy who I had a good experience with in the past but at the last minute he left the practice. I was referred to another neurosurgeon by my primary care doctor who after researching I was not comfortable with. I did my own research of neurosurgeons within my medical group and came across Dr. Farin who has incredibly positive reviews. When I am looking for a doctor I review mostly for their medical experience and after treatment success stories. I consulted with Dr. Farin and was extremely impressed with her attention to detail and time she spent with me discussing my options. At no time did she push to perform surgery and encouraged me to look at all my options. Since I had already had back surgery for stenosis and the X-rays and MRI showed that more had developed so I opted to have the laminectomy in July of 2020. The surgery went very well, and I was up and out of the hospital quickly. It is now January of 2021 and am 98% pain free and my quality of life is much so much better than prior to the surgery. I am my own dedicated advocate to receive the best care possible and do research my doctors and procedures until my comfort level is high and I believe that I am making the best decision for success. Dr Farin is awesome, she spends as much time as needed with you, and that may lead to a little longer wait in the office, when she is super busy. But with that being said, her Staff is awesome, Her PA, Gabe is awesome as well. I was misdiagnosed , by 3 other doctors, following a MVA , resulting in severe neck/shoulder pain and ended up asking to be referred back to Dr. Farin, who had treated me a few years ago , for a different issue. One of the first things She ordered, was new MRI's, as the previous ones were of lower quality compared to what they usually see. She also tested my shoulder and referred me to a Orthopedic Specialist. She suspected my neck pain and shoulder pain were two separate issues. Sure enough, with help from the new MRI's, the Ortho found I had tears in my shoulder and gave me an injection to help with that issue. All along I was told and thought the shoulder pain was coming from my neck , by the personal injury doctors. Get a second opinion when someone advises neck fusion surgery, people! My neck and shoulder are both feeling better, thanks to Dr Farin and her great team. I would highly recommend Dr Farin for either the first or second opinion, for any serious pain issues. Dr. Azadeh Farin is above and beyond the best brain surgeon, nothing I can say really does justice to her: she is extremely intelligent, a compassionate and caring person, and a truly outstanding doctor. My mother had back surgery last Thursday by Dr Azadeh Farin at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. She is 80 yrs old and she had Spondylolisthesis L5 s1; slipped disk. She was experiencing pain in the side of her legs for almost 2 yrs and it started affecting her walk. Dr Farin's surgery took 7.5 hrs as she fused the disc and decompressed the nerves. She was released from the hospital on day 6 walking shortly two times a day. The confidence that was restored and regained to my mom with no nerve damage in her legs or feet was the greatest gift given to her by Dr Farin. I was referred to Dr. Farin by my chiropractor as an MRI indicated cervical stenosis and I was experiencing a variety of nerve related symptoms in the shoulder and neck. Dr. Farin laid out a conservative plan for treatment, but did not rush to recommend surgery. After not responding to the various treatments surgery was scheduled. My surgery took place in July and it went without any complications. Dr. Farin was understanding when I assessed the time need to recovery in order to return to work.
