It's really a hidden gem! they offer wine tasting and also whiskey tasting, for only less than $10 They are making everything in house, they have a great selection of liquors and mixed drinks. The owner went above and beyond to make sure the whole experience is special I would totally recommend this place for anyone wants to try something new, like corn whiskey ;)

Tucked out of the way, down the road, up the driveway, and around the bend is a place worth exploring. River Hill Distillery has been on the radar for six years, yet still has multiple surprises for you. Walking up to the front door, you might encounter Amy. Amy will walk you through several delightful wines made with locally grown produce and crafted with care. Yes, WINE! Turns out that River Hill Distillery is also a bit of a winery. All of it was delightful, but the surprise hit, at least for our taste buds was the sweet potato wine. I had to ask Amy twice to make sure I had heard her properly. Sweet potato! Once Amy got through with us, it was Fred's turn to delight us. Wielding a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm, Fred explained everything from how much corn he is able to grow, where and how he malts the corn and barley he uses, to each step in the distillation process. Try the wine. Try the 100% Corn Whiskey. Try the Bourbon. Try the 100 Bourbon. And definitely: Enjoy!

My 4 stars is as much about the tour as the whisky. I'm not a big fan of corn whisky, but I loved hearing Fred explain his process. He even has his old still on display (which he only replaced 6 months ago), which isn't much more than a tank with a copper pipe coming out of it held up by a coat hanger! The whisky was very smooth & pale, almost vodka-like. And at 100-proof, it had a punch. The bourbon was lightly smoked. We had a 3rd sample of the whisky mixed with apple cider & a dash of cinnamon and that was good. They also have some wine, mostly made from fruit but one with Niagara grapes (white wine). The Niagara was a porch sipping wine; nothing fancy but gets the job done. Most of the fruit wines were sold out, but I did like the peach wine.' The distillery is super small; they only produce about 22 gallons a month. They also sell beef and other farm meats. I definitely recommend a tour and sampling.

Great time of year to visit the distillery.

Great place to visit and tour. Family owned with a great story of what led to opening this distillery. Check out how their whiskey and bourbon is made fro start to finish. Distillery is locate beside the stables. They also offer tasting and more.

We were looking for a place to relax and enjoy a warm winter day and the River Hill Distillery was perfect. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff took the time to explain all the tasting we enjoyed. The wine was unique and excellent. The spirits were also very good. Best of all, the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend stopping by, you won't be dissapointed

A fantastic, off the beaten path, family-owned and operated farm and distillery in Luray, VA. They grow their own corn for their horses and cattle and save some to make whiskey and bourbon. They also make lovely dessert wines from apples and berries, as well as, sell beef products. Their distillery is in one small building which is three signs away from the main road. You'll think you're going too far, but just have faith and you'll see the signs showing you where to go. It's absolutely worth a visit if you want to take a day trip out of D.C.--it's only two hours away and an idyllic drive. Amy and Fred Foley warmly welcomed us in. We sat at the bar and chatted with Amy while we waited for the next tour of the distillery. She poured us samples of the apple and berry dessert wines. The apple was lightly sweet and crisp, very nice for a warm summer day. The berry wine was like sangria, just yummy! I ended up buying a bottle for later! About 10-15 minutes later, we were invited to tour the distillery and see how they make their small batches of un-aged and aged whiskey and bourbon. The tour was 15 minutes with tastings at the end. This tour is very low-key. You'll learn how to make small batch whiskey with traditional methods. They use local goods throughout and it was fascinating to see craft whiskey and bourbon being made. They hand-bottle and label their whiskey, bourbon, and wine. If you're looking for a high-end, whiskey processing factory experience...where everyone wears uniforms and tastings occur in wood-paneled rooms with leather chairs...you will be disappointed. Their un-aged whiskey was great when mixed as an apple pie cocktail--we were treated to a tasting of that neat to start. The bourbon was my favorite and I bought a small bottle of that too (and I'm not even a whiskey or bourbon aficionado). My boyfriend bought their "100% Corn Bourbon Whiskey", made from corn grown on their farm, which was aged for 8-months in charred oak barrels. This experience was the highlight of our day trip to Luray to see the caverns. We will be back sometime to stay at their farmhouse or cottage and take in other attractions Luray has to offer. -- The picture is of Scooter the raccoon. A former corn bandit who is now a stuffed mascot in the distillery.

Wonderful fun place. Definitely worth the stop. Close to Luray Caverns so a good stop after the caverns.

It was a chilly day and we followed the instructions to ring the bell when we were outside. Shout out to the folks here who provide the cute cat with a heated blanket to lay on during cold weather. Members of the staff quickly came by to let us in and we walked into a empty sitting area. To be fair, it was around 3:00pm on a Wednesday. The vibe inside is eclectic, homey, and comfortable. We grabbed a seat at a table near the fire. We had time to review menu. I picked a classic Whiskey Sour and my Mom got one of their warm whiskey cocktails. Both of us really enjoyed ours. We sipped and savored them and just enjoyed a bit of a respite from our road trip. We both got a bottle of their whiskey to take home with us. These aren't your standard whiskeys and they are definitely more expensive than what you'd probably get in the liquor store. We've been enjoying our purchases at home since our visit. Copper Fox is a nice stop and I'd recommend it to folks wanting a break and a beverage.

We did two tastings and the tasting boards were nice. It's not much of a location to hang in- just one room so our loud group kind of took over. They have a few cocktails too which were tasty (one with chai and cardamom was nice). No TVs or food while we were there but if you happen to be driving in the area the bourbons and prices were good.

It is not a destination place. I am a fan of wineries and breweries that have a bit of ambiance and history to them. This is not one of those places. Upon arrival I wasn't sure if there was a tasting room or not. It looks like a warehouse with no defined parking and no "warmth" to bring customers in. The tasting room has space for 8 people and can be filled with 5. The tasting room is more like a converted office with the expected customer to be a distributor. I asked the server about the history or what makes their whiskey different from others. The answer was "We are between a micro distillery and a large manufacturer." I was hoping for something like grandpas recipes or locally sourced grains but I got nothing. I look for places to be and enjoy a drink with friends. This is not one of those places. This is a sample it, but it, and get out place.
