This was one of the best distillery I have tried. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. The building is absolutely beautiful inside and if it's nice outside, the scenery behind the distillery is amazing with a creek running right past the back porch. The do offer charcuterie and other snacks to eat here when there are no food trucks. You are also allowed to bring your own food, which is what we did.. I can't wait to go here again when I come back next year.

Six of us, three couples from Maryland, had traveled down to spend two days in the Sperryville (Skyline Drive) area, to relax and enjoy each-other's company; we planned to spend a couple hours at The Copper Fox Distillery. It was a beautiful day as we walked in the building, a very dark, dank, empty place. Looking around, we looked out the open back door and saw people sitting outside at tables. In front of a brook, there were perhaps twelve tables, about half of them occupied, and there was an empty four-top in the middle, but no servers around. We moved two chairs (from the far-left of the area) to the table and prepared to sit. A server came out of the building, walked right up to us, grabbed one of the chairs, and said in a very loud voice "why do you think you are entitled to move my chairs around!", taking the chair back to the table it came from, and grabbing the other chair. I said, "look, we came a long way to your place to enjoy ourselves, why can't we sit here"? She said "there is not enough room on that table for your drinks" and I said "no problem, we can deal with it". "No, you can't sit here" she said, "sit there", pointing to a six top way over to the right, out of the sunshine, not really within view of the brook, and went inside. Two of my party said "let's just leave", a couple at the next table was shaking their heads, and I followed her inside. A discussion ensued, where I asked her why we were having such a problem; we came a long way to enjoy her place... and she began raising her voice, yelling at me how she knew what good hospitality was about (???) and much more. I said something I regret. I went outside to retrieve my group and leave, and their first words were "why in the world was she screaming at you"? None of us had ever been treated like this (from the very first moment we arrived) and we were extremely disappointed. Apparently, the customer is not always right, and we were left not understanding how such behavior could be tolerated from an employee, or how such a thing could happen.

We also ordered the giant pretzel, which was really good. We tried a variety of drinks before taking the tour, which costs $10. I highly recommend booking it online ahead of time. Our tour guide was fantastic--very knowledgeable and engaging. The tour lasted a little over an hour, but if you need to leave early, you're free to do so. After the tour, everyone in your group receives a tasting, and the $10 tour fee can be applied toward the purchase of a bottle, which we ended up doing. Pho on Wheels was there as well, and it was amazing. We'll definitely be back! They have a few chairs under the cover outside, but I would definitely recommend bringing your own or a blanket to sit on. They have live music, which was amazing, not too loud.

My friend ordered the Hibiscus highball which he really enjoyed. He mentioned that it was on the sweeter side but was still strong and enjoyable. The ambiance was really nice. Song dog is located in the middle of farm land so they have plenty of space on the grounds. They have outdoor seating as well as fire pits which is always a good time. Inside they have bar seating as well as tables. Sometimes they have food trucks come by which is always nice however, they do sale snacks as well. Once on the compound, it was difficult to miss; large glass doors and walls with the humongous crest on the front of the building. We decided to do a walk in tasting and were lucky enough to have Jonathon be our guide to all the outstanding spirits made at the distillery. Jonathon was extremely knowledgeable about the distillery's history, products, and merch. Jonathon's passion for the distillery was continually on display, and he kept the spirits light with his unique brand of humor. Be mindful that the tasting room was packed, so I also recommend making a reservation to ensure you can enjoy the experience. The options for the tasting were the clear or amber flight options. The clear choices being some of the steeped fruit and tea liquors, served with mixers for their signature cocktails. These drinks were what the distillery was most known for. The ambers were their more recent whiskey offerings, consisting of differing ageing and steeping techniques, to create their very different spirit flavors and textures. Jonathon was able to give us the history of each spirit, as well as provide mixing options, if they were a little strong for the palette. The ambers were all unique and each provided a little something for you to think over and you tasted your way through the Murlarkey display. We really enjoyed the tasting, the whiskey, the ambience, and especially Jonathon, who made the experience totally worthwhile. We grabbed a couple bottles, some of their great Bootlegger Boys merch, and made our way to their cocktail bar, Proof to taste some more of their signature cocktails. We weren't ordering food, just cocktails. There were four of us ready to order another round, so the business not only left us with a disappointing impression but also lost the sale of four additional drinks. If the posted closing time is 8:00 PM, I would expect drink service to continue until reasonably close to closing time.
