    Peach cobbler cider
    Olivia J.

Cobbler Mountain Cider is a wonderful place to unwind, and enjoy some quality time with friends outside. On the weekends, you can bring a picnic basket or order a charcuterie board from a food truck. There are plenty of picnic tables around the grounds. I highly recommend a picnic blanket so you can nap in the shade. If it is too hot outside, enjoy the AC in the tasting room. The service was spectacular! I spoke with the owner and he helped us pick ciders for our flight. My favorites are peach cobbler, raspberry and blackberry currant. There are 25 varieties available to try and you can also buy four packs to take home. NOTE: If you're a fan of sweet ciders this is the place to go. FAMILY FRIENDLY: Walking up to the tasting room I saw a sign that read "Well behaved kids welcome!" There is a kids corner inside the tasting room as well as some little tables for toddlers in the picnic area. It's adorable! Overall, if you need a break from the city, Cobbler Mountain Cider is the perfect place to relax, and enjoy the sunshine.

Watermelon cider. It's my absolute favorite!

I found this place for Father's Day a few years ago. We had no idea what gem we had just found. Tucked up on a giant hill is the best cider we have had and that you should go try! We've tried just about every flavor but our go to favorites are the blueberry pomegranate and watermelon. It's just a really chill place to hang out, have a drink and unwind. They have fire pits that you can use too. Our young son loves making s'mores when we go. It's beautiful in the fall because the leaves are changing, the air is cool, and it's perfect to cover up with a blanket, make s'mores and have a hot toddy. Seriously, this is a place to go try!

I will start by saying I'm not a huge fan of cider in general, but the grounds here are so beautiful that practically anything tastes delicious. They have tons of space and lots of seating so you can enjoy time outdoors without feeling like you're going to come into contact with anyone else (the exception being waiting in line to get your cider. But they have an outdoor tent with their more popular flavors so you don't have to go inside if you don't want to). They had a good truck there while we visited, but we brought some cheese and crackers from home and enjoyed that at a picnic table while sipping on cider. A wonderful fall day, highly recommend

This is an awesome spot for cider! Tons of cider on draft (too many to try in one visit!) we got flights of 8 to try as many as we could. Favorites were blueberry lemonade, watermelon and apple house! The land is beautiful, we sat outside and enjoyed our cider with a picnic lunch. It's dog friendly too!! Great service too, everyone was so friendly :)

We visited Cobbler Mountain recently to try out a flight of their hard ciders, as well as taste their wines. It's been 5 years since I last visited Cobbler Mountain Cellars. Back then, it was a winery only and the tastings were conducted in the basement of a house. Fast forward 5 years - and things look much different now. There is now a dedicated building for the wine and cider tastings. When we visited some months ago - the cider tasting was held in a room towards the back, whereas the wine tastings were held in a room right as you walk in the front door. Both rooms were cramped and to small to accommodate the number of customers that were on hand the day we visited. Looks like they could stand to expand the building, or tear it down and build something much larger! We enjoyed all the ciders we tasted, as well as interacting with the staff. I'm sure we'll be back soon to see what is new! #CobblerMountainCellars

Went with a group of folks and each got a wine glass. Got a tasting of 5 different wines - 2014 Semi-Sparkling Vidal Blanc, 2013 Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon and 2012 Meritage and Petit Verdot, with the first wine I mentioned being their only white wine and the others red wines. I am open-minded and tried all the wines in the tasting (normally I would not have because I only prefer dessert wines). Got a tour of the place downstairs and found they have a room with nice chairs and long tables that one can reserve and bring their own food in and have their own celebration - nicely laid out. They also have cider tastings as well for $7 - now before this visit I was not a big fan of ciders. Well, they changed my mind as I left with a few bottles based on the ones I tasted. From what I remember, I tried the following - Traditional, Mountain Top Hop, Original Honey, Smackin' Orange, Wild Blackberry Hop, Ginger Peach and Kickin' Cinnamon, with the last 5 being the ones I liked the most. I didn't check to see if I could get their ciders elsewhere, but if I can't, I hope to come back and get some more of their ciders to stock up on and also get ideas on other ways to use them outside of just pouring it alone in a glass. Nice place and friendly folks.

Visited over a holiday weekend and was warmly welcomed by Jeff, one of the owners. During this visit Cobber had 5 ciders on tap, although that numbers changes according to new arrivals / older ciders being sold out. 10 acres of grape vines; some on the property but the rest in Charlottesville. I LOVE flagship Cinnamon Apple Cider, with the peach being a distant second. Other flavors come & go; sometimes I'll find one a flavor that's close competition to the cinnamon, other times I can take-or-leave them. Still, that's a huge improvement compared to other ciderys, where I sometimes like maybe one item but not enough to buy a glass. Here, I'd buy growlers. The grounds are amazing. Lots of chairs and trees for shade, and very dog friendly. Perfect summer picnic area. They even have hiking trails. It feels less like 'winery' and more like a park. Their wines tend to be a little fruit forward. It's not necessarily my favorite wine in the area, but I wouldn't turn a glass down either. They have a semi-sparkling Vidal Blanc and a Syrah, if that's your thing. But I did like the Petit Verdot. The front of the tasting building is a small circular serving bar for the wine, while the cidery is in the back. Jeff was kind enough to give me a brief tour, including a downstairs area where he hosts periodic dinners. The building wasn't big, but it had a warm & cozy vibe to it. If you like Irish music you're in luck, because their music schedule was heavy on the Gallic. The WiFi password listed on their tasting menus as well. Jeff's hospitality is also second to none. He came across as a very down to earth guy who was tickled pink that everyone loves his cider; for him it seems like a labor of love. He's also the wine maker, so he's quite the busy guy. Cobbler isn't far from I-66, but it's so tucked away in the woods it seems further. The last stretch is all dirt road; not something you'd want to try in snow. I was told they also have hiking trails (although that would make for a very tipsy hike!). If you don't have your own dog, no worries - borrow theirs! While having a glass of cider, I (with permission) put their dog on a leash and we wandered around the grounds, greeting guests. I can attest he's quite the moocher, especially since few people could say 'no' to his wagging tail.

Cobbler Mountain Cellars is a slice of heaven! We were greeted by Corky, the farm manager (a wonderful dog) that roams the property. We received a LivingSocial deal as part of my wife's birthday gift. The deal includes 4 different ciders to taste plus you get to keep the glasses! Then you get $10 off a 3-pack of 4 ciders (which brings the total to $44 plus tax. They have many ciders to choose from all with different flavors from simple to complex. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely return!

A great COVID friendly treat, warmish days, already started a fire delicious ciders will be back

Blueberry pomegranate, apple pineapple and sangria cidahhhhh. Chilled on a warm day hits the spot.

I always read the bad reviews before I write mine for a different perspective. I enjoyed this establishment. I grew up on Woodchuck Cidahhhhh. Cobbler Mountain cidahhhh was more sweet, but wicked good. The view was nice. You can bring your pin picnic. Did not meet any nasty owners, as some 1 star reviewers wrote. One reason I liked this place was because ordinarily people were there. Most of the wineries in VA have patrons that are 1. too yuppie, 2. think they are a "somebody" and 3. have more money then the next guy. I did not get that vibe here. Everyone seemed down to earth drinking their cidahhhhh. Will I come back--yes.

The road is NOT NOT NOT Corvette friendly, but if you have a 4wd jeep then the road is perfect lol. So like I said before, I'm not a huge fan of cideries. With that being said, I really enjoyed the pumpkin and cinnamon. Ok been here now about 5 times it's really growing on me. The pumpkin cider is outstanding. I joined the Cider club and purchased a pewter mug. Now every time I go I get a free pint of Cider. $50 buys you the mug, well worth it...

Off the beaten track and up on hilltop with beautiful views, this winery is AMAZING! Tastings are table side with knowledge staff guiding you. They offer both their own estate wines as well as an assortment from VA and around the world. Their wines were well balanced with layers of flavor, depth and long finish. My favorites were the Petite Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc It is best to make a reservation. They also have a food menu. We did the 2 estate tastings, several glasses and shared a burrata. The review does not reflect the fact I did not get to try their wine, but rather the way I was treated when I attempted to plan a trip to visit the "right" way** We were driving past this spot on a nice Sunday, coming home from a family lunch, and thought why not stop in? I did not have a reservation because (as mentioned above) I wasn't aware of needing one and I wasnt sure when I would be able to stop in as I was just passing by (we live 1+ hour away). As we pulled into the long dirt road, the front gates have no clear sign that says 'By Appointment Only' - perhaps a good add before your clients drive up a steep unpaved road to just be turned away. None of the vines appeared to be in use so the drive up may be more beautiful one day when the grapes are on the vines. The parking lot is a bit cramped and full of fancy cars, giving us a taste of the type of clientele that would be inside. We came in and I inquired if I could do a wine tasting. The staff member told us we needed a reservation but that he would do his best to try to see if they had space - totally fine. My mistake again- I did not realize that this winery required reservations (no other winery I have been to in Charlottesville, Middleburg, or NOVA has done so) so my first assumption wasn't that I needed a reservation. Again, no sign at the front that says this and would have saved me time. The space was obviously gorgeous, the views spectacular and it felt very Napa and upscale. The staff member returned back and told us they couldn't accommodate us- ok, disappointing but ultimately is what it is. I asked the two staff members standing there how early they recommend making reservations, as we dont live in the area so I need to plan ahead. They told me it was hard to tell but that basically any time it's warm, it will be hard to get a reservation and that "Saturday visits are a pipe dream" and Sundays are "pretty impossible too". They then kindly told me "you could try to snag a reservation maybe a Thursday or Friday". Mind you, their hours are 12-5 on Thursday/Friday...I live an hour plus away, let alone with traffic. I guess my only options are to take off work to come visit as it seems there will be no chance for me to ever get a reservation for 2 on the weekends.... Needless to say, it felt like the staff really could care less for our future business and we politely left. The staff did not offer to help us book a future reservation or anything of that nature - just a snooty response that I probably shouldn't bother every attempting to return on a weekend. Hilarious enough, I decided to look up their website and low and behold - they had tasting reservations that same day at 3 PM (45 minutes after we first asked about a tasting) - no offer to us to wait or come back to return, just basically turned away. Cherry on top- they have tons of reservations open for future Saturdays and Sunday. If you don't want my business, you dont have to tell me twice. If I want to deal with pretentious folks, I'll fly to Napa and drink wine actually grown onsite.

Tables are reserved for 2.5 hours, so I assume the party before us didn't use their full time. We ordered an appetizer and a bottle of wine. The brie cake was delicious--even for someone who doesn't usually like goat cheese (it was layered in)--but unfortunately, no one in our group enjoyed the cheesecake. The winery is both dog- and kid-friendly. All the parents we encountered kept their children supervised, which is a winery rule and one I really appreciate now that we have kids ourselves. Most of the dogs were also very well behaved, though one was repeatedly growling at passing dogs, which was off-putting. While the winery can't control every patron, we choose to leave our dog at home when she's not in a social mood, and it would be nice if all dog owners did the same.

Not a single table was available. Instead, there were rows of empty tables with RESERVED signs on them, apparently reserved for ghosts, because no one sat at them for 2+ hours. Meanwhile, groups of people, including us, circled the patio like vultures waiting for a table to finally open. The oyster pop-up bar had a line wrapping around the patio like people were waiting for Taylor Swift concert tickets instead of shellfish. There are small campfire setups around the outside area. But in 69°F full sun with a gentle breeze, you'd think no one would use them. Wrong. The whole side patio and hill area turned into a smoky campsite, with diners getting smoked out and leaving. On top of that, we had to fend off a rotating cast of unattended children. Kids wandered around like they were in an unsupervised theme park. One repeatedly tried sticking their hands in our dog's face while she was calmly chewing on a bone outside like a civilized creature. We ended up disciplining other people's children just so our dog could exist without being harassed. Food (4/5): We ordered the Nduja Sausage and Ricotta Pizza ($26), a red sangria pitcher ($40), a red sangria glass ($12), and the s'mores cookie tray ($10 for 3 cookies). The pizza was delicious, but the crust was so thin and flimsy it needed structural reinforcement. I used part of the previous slice to smear the ricotta around to get a balanced bite each time. The sangria was great, but $40 for 4 1/3 full glasses of wine felt disappointing. It's sangria, not liquid gold. The cookies were good, but for $10, 3 cookies should at least come with hot cocoa. Service (4/5): The lines were out the door. That is not the staff's fault. This place is popular, and the food is great. While I waited the 15 minute line to order, I reviewed the menu, dodged tiny children, and stepped away from random dogs on leashes inside the establishment trying to jump on me. It felt like a low-stakes obstacle course. When I got to the counter, I placed my order quickly. The bartender whipped the screen around with such precision and stared me down during the tip prompt like I was making a morally questionable decision. I pressed "No Tip" (listen. I stood in a line, picked up my own order, and bussed my own table) and his face shifted from "happy to help you" to "you have personally wronged me and my ancestors" in seconds. After tapping through 5+ different prompts, he told me to set a timer on my phone for 10 to 15 minutes and go to a different building to pick up my pizza. Finding this second building required me to use my nose like a bloodhound, following the faint scent of pizza through crowds until I finally tracked it down.

The wines were solid--slightly better than those at the neighboring vineyard--which aligns with the winemaker's established background and experience. The winery is family-friendly and allows children. Service was pleasant, and pricing was more reasonable than nearby options. I would consider returning with friends, bringing a picnic, and spending a relaxed afternoon outdoors while enjoying a few bottles.

In other words, this isn't a group event at a big winery with lower priced non-estate wine options type of place. Lost Mountain Vineyards used to be called RdV. In June 2024, RDV was acquired by Eutopia Estates which is owned by the Bouygues family of France. For now they are Bordeaux-style blends focused on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. They have some white grape vines but they are not ready to produce wine yet. They tasting experience/tour lasts about 1.5 hours. You tour the front of the vineyard, the barrel cave and bottling facilities. Then you taste their three top red blends paired with ham, cheese, peanuts and biscuits. All the food comes from Virginia farms and producers. Both the wine and the food are excellent. As was the service for the tour. Details on the wines here https://lostmountainvineyards.com/wines/. Tour reservations via Tock. The one major downside is the price point. Over $300 for the tour and tasting for my wife and I. We recently visited Daou in Paso Robles and had more food and wine at a lower price.
