We came to Rappahannock most recently for a Virginia Wine Love meetup and enjoyed the wines this time around compared to when we visited pre-COVID. The service was really good at the event and we were able to have a designated spot for our group. We thoroughly enjoyed the winery and can't wait to come back!

I really don't need any excuse to check out one of the many Virginia Wineries in the northern Virginia area and I was so excited when an organized tour was put together to visit the winery. This was my first time checking out establishment in Huntly, VA. The unique aspect about this establishment that they distill spirits and process wine on site. So literally they covered both sides of the playing field when it comes to the adult beverage arena. The highlight during my wine tasting was the 2018 Port. The red dessert wine was full bodied and sweet.

My friend found out about this winery a year or so ago, and we've had 3 group visits since. It's really a lovely property and very spacious for groups. Once it was warm enough to sit on the covered rooftop and it was super nice. The last time we went, it was quite chilly out, so we sat inside at one of the lounge areas with comfy couches and the bar/tasting area nearby. I think they also have patio tables near the entrance. Either way, you can't go wrong and will have a good time. The wine itself is very delicious and they have a nice variety. Half of our group joined the wine club! We typically try several bottles when we're visiting, and enjoying sipping and enjoying the scenery. I also like that we can bring our own food - definitely needed after an afternoon of wine tasting. The women that work there are lovely and a lot of fun. I definitely recommend a visit - great wines and beautiful property.

We stopped in on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. We had a tasting at the bar and liked the wines. "Sheritage" was a great host!! We would love to come back on a nice day to really enjoy this incredible setting. The rooftop area is great!

If you order a glass of wine, the glass is yours to keep.

It's a drive, but it's worth it! Mostly estate-grown grapes exhibiting some of Virginia's best wines. The charmat rose is probably the first rose in Virginia that I've genuinely liked. Soft bubbles, beautiful color, off-dry. They have a large indoor tasting room, with a separate space for wine club members, and plenty of outdoor space that is friendly to pups and kids. Cheese boards and snacks are available for purchase. Check their website for food truck rotations. If you hiked on Skyline drive, like I did, in the morning, this is a great post-hike spot to relax.

We had a lovely (if chilly) February visit to Rappahannock cellars. There is a large outdoor seating area with fire pits, which was nice until the sun disappeared behind the mountain. (Dogs are only allowed outside, which was why we were braving the patio in February). We had a glass of the rose, which had nice strawberry notes while being very crisp, dry, and refreshing. It paired well with the sausage and pepper pizza we got from the food tent. The tasting room was pretty busy for late on a Sunday afternoon but the staff were very nice and knowledgeable. I also got to taste the Fizzy Lizzy (sparkling rose), meritage, and Eighteen, but the rose was my favorite. My husband and I go to VA wineries about once a month and I rarely give five star reviews, but this was one of the better wines we've tasted in a while. (I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could, but am rounding up because the wines were definitely better than the competition). Our running joke is that VA wine only tastes good at the winery, but this was one wine that I actually enjoyed more once I was home (but maybe that was because I could feel my fingers)!

Hit the wine lottery with this one! By far my favorite winery in Shenandoah National Park area! Connected with a distillery, patio, and a small food menu of cheese plates and flat breads, you'll see why this Cellar outshines others. There's much more to this winery than meets the eye. They sell olive oil, complete with an olive oil tasting. The wines are diverse. The wine tastings are much more formal than other tastings in the area; more direct, professional, and personal. Closely connected with a distillery, so you won't have to travel far to experience a different tasting. You'll get the most bang for your buck here. I had difficulties finding my favorite wine because they were ALL my favorites. I love the robust flavors and even the earthy wines caught my eye. We purchased a bottle of Solera NV, which is a sunny dessert colored wine. Such a rare and sweet taste. I was happy to see that they sell these wines online, since we are not local: https://www.rappahannockcellars.com/Wines Beautiful scenery. Beautiful wines: All I need in life.

Finally a new review. So I have been going to Rappahannock for many years. Theo has been the wine maker as long as I can remember. Theo has left to start his own winery Capstone "don't think he is fully open yet". Anyways my wife and I have joined Rappahannock as of last year. I can tell you I can't be more impressed, they have added a whole new building with I think 4 floors plenty of outside seating. Food trucks are always good, they are children and dog friendly. They also have spirits you will want to give it a try. Teresa club manager is awesome always makes her way over to say hi. On to the wines, the reds are awesome. The current black label Meritage is awesome, dry, bold and smooth tannins. The Petit Verdot is bold, great nose with lots of tannins, The new world red is delicious and the black label Cab Franc is smoky, mildly peppery perfect for steaks or pizza. I've had their tawny and port style and they are both awesome. I'm not a white wine person but their black label Chardonnay is worth a try. BTW check out their solar panel array impressive... Needless to say love Rappahannock.

This winery, no I can't spell it, has expanded and has plenty of indoor seating. The grounds are set up for picnics and even have fire pits. The red wines are fine but do not have a string deep taste. Easy to drink. Our friends ordered the VX2 white wine, which they loved. They offered a mulled wine, which was great. These is even a distillery on the grounds with vodka. Cinnamon Vodka? Yes, please. Prices were low, $10/glass. We got there a bit late so didn't stay too long. I think we will try again on a warm spring or summer day.

Been here many times over the years and have watched the place grow to the current size, with various rooms for members, etc. The grounds are decent, great for dogs, families, etc.... especially on a beautiful, sunny day! The wines are decent... they have a varied selection of wines. The staff is always very friendly an helpful. Overall, it's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area and would like wine. I definitely don't consider this wine to be among the best (especially in the area with one of the top VA vineyards very close-by), but it's pretty decent and the venue is nice and groups are welcomed here, where they might not be at the better wine locations.

One of the best wineries in VA, a hidden gem at the foothills of Shenandoah Valley. From breathtaking views to humble service that's not flooded with people and plenty of food options, you can easily spend a few hours relaxing here. I came here last weekend for a tasting at the tail end of when they were going to close and gave my fiance and I a few free pours (we bought a few bottles) and came back again to finish the tasting and try their food! All of the wines are really good. We like the port, 2016 Chardonnay-Viognier Blend, and 2015 Meritage. The staff is super friendly and we don't feel rushed. They take their time explaining the wine and are really humble and down to earth. I ordered the garlic and pesto flatbread while my fiancee got the ciabatta bread with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette dressings. The flatbread wasn't very good, it was a bit greasy and the cheese didn't properly melt onto the bread. I honestly think I could have made better flatbread at home. I should have gone with the truffle oil flatbread instead. The ciabatta bread was nice and warm and the spreads were good. There's also a food truck on the weekends, which had a nice menu with plenty of veggie friendly options. The views are stunning, very picturesque and there is plenty of seating around the front. Please note that this winery opens at 11:30 not 11 as stated on Yelp and Google. We got there a few minutes before 11:30 and had to wait before the winery opened. Overall, I really like this winery and it's one of my favorite spots. Will def be back in the fall!

Our first time (May 31st) and I want to say we loved everything about this winery. First, the employees are welcoming, helpful and you can tell they enjoy their jobs. I appreciate how they were cleaning tables after each customers, often wiping down counters and doors and really reinforcing the masks policy inside the building. Personally want to thank two young ladies there that were so helpful and pleasant , I am sorry I didnt get your names. Let's get to the wines, we decided to order the meritage to share and it was delightful so I bought a bottle to go.. my friend went with the port. We were able to get a table and kept our 6ft from people. Oh I didn't find out they had a rooftop till I was leaving and the view is breathtaking! No reservations required, mask strictly enforced in the building, a maximum of numbers of people in the building also reinforced, plenty of space to spread out and picnics and dogs welcome... Thanks Covid-19 sucks!

Off the beaten track and up on hilltop with beautiful views, this winery is AMAZING! Tastings are table side with knowledge staff guiding you. They offer both their own estate wines as well as an assortment from VA and around the world. Their wines were well balanced with layers of flavor, depth and long finish. My favorites were the Petite Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc It is best to make a reservation. They also have a food menu. We did the 2 estate tastings, several glasses and shared a burrata. **I will preface this by the fact that for once in my life, I did not do my due diligence and…read moreresearch the wineries rules and regulations before coming. The review does not reflect the fact I did not get to try their wine, but rather the way I was treated when I attempted to plan a trip to visit the "right" way** We were driving past this spot on a nice Sunday, coming home from a family lunch, and thought why not stop in? I did not have a reservation because (as mentioned above) I wasn't aware of needing one and I wasnt sure when I would be able to stop in as I was just passing by (we live 1+ hour away). As we pulled into the long dirt road, the front gates have no clear sign that says 'By Appointment Only' - perhaps a good add before your clients drive up a steep unpaved road to just be turned away. None of the vines appeared to be in use so the drive up may be more beautiful one day when the grapes are on the vines. The parking lot is a bit cramped and full of fancy cars, giving us a taste of the type of clientele that would be inside. We came in and I inquired if I could do a wine tasting. The staff member told us we needed a reservation but that he would do his best to try to see if they had space - totally fine. My mistake again- I did not realize that this winery required reservations (no other winery I have been to in Charlottesville, Middleburg, or NOVA has done so) so my first assumption wasn't that I needed a reservation. Again, no sign at the front that says this and would have saved me time. The space was obviously gorgeous, the views spectacular and it felt very Napa and upscale. The staff member returned back and told us they couldn't accommodate us- ok, disappointing but ultimately is what it is. I asked the two staff members standing there how early they recommend making reservations, as we dont live in the area so I need to plan ahead. They told me it was hard to tell but that basically any time it's warm, it will be hard to get a reservation and that "Saturday visits are a pipe dream" and Sundays are "pretty impossible too". They then kindly told me "you could try to snag a reservation maybe a Thursday or Friday". Mind you, their hours are 12-5 on Thursday/Friday...I live an hour plus away, let alone with traffic. I guess my only options are to take off work to come visit as it seems there will be no chance for me to ever get a reservation for 2 on the weekends.... Needless to say, it felt like the staff really could care less for our future business and we politely left. The staff did not offer to help us book a future reservation or anything of that nature - just a snooty response that I probably shouldn't bother every attempting to return on a weekend. Hilarious enough, I decided to look up their website and low and behold - they had tasting reservations that same day at 3 PM (45 minutes after we first asked about a tasting) - no offer to us to wait or come back to return, just basically turned away. Cherry on top- they have tons of reservations open for future Saturdays and Sunday. If you don't want my business, you dont have to tell me twice. If I want to deal with pretentious folks, I'll fly to Napa and drink wine actually grown onsite.

Although the staff were friendly and helpful, their divided attention noticeably impacted the overall experience. The venue offers attractive hilltop views; however, the tasting room itself is small and felt cramped even at half capacity. The winery is family-friendly and allows children. Service was pleasant, and pricing was more reasonable than nearby options. I would consider returning with friends, bringing a picnic, and spending a relaxed afternoon outdoors while enjoying a few bottles.
