Stopped in for a tasting before late lunch at Patty O's. They have a lovely setting, nice casual tasting room, and some equally lovely wines. I wish I remember the woman's name who was running the tasting room, so friendly and helpful. They also very warmly welcomed my friend's very energetic border collie (we had to put her outside for a bit....the dog not my friend :) Ended up leaving with couple bottles each of Luminoso and Sunset, and delicious raspberry chocolates. read more

Call in advance to reserve room for large parties. We sat outside on the porch and drank wine while playing card games on a Thursday. It was quite packed for a weekday. They have bocce. Gadino Cellars is one of my favorite, albeit I feel under appreciated, wineries in Virginia. The property is lovely, the grapes are grown right on premises, everything is impeccably landscaped, the tasting room is huge, the ample porch seating is beautiful and serene AND they have two full sized/well maintained Bocce ball courts. I just love it here. Their staff is also super friendly and their wines are delicious. My favorite is the Moonrise, but there isn't a single one I wouldn't drink a full glass of. Just FYI. The area surrounding School House road is a complete dead zone, so I would recommend having a good idea where you are going to not get lost. There are some signs as you get closer, so pay attention. Then once you get to the winery they do offer free wifi in the tasting room. read more

Pretty good visit; I wish they had more reds but I'll give them 4 stars based on the 3 that I did have. Fortunately I thought the whites were above average. They are also super dog friendly, with dogs allowed in the tasting room (oh, kids too!). Gadino is one of the older wineries in the area; they opened in 2005 but have some 20 year old vines. They are also one of the smaller operations; 1500 cases/year, with a focus on Italian style wines. 8 acres of vines, mostly on their property but with a few plantings elsewhere. They are somewhat out of the way; while the tasting room isn't far from Lee Hwy, the lack of internet/phone service in their area might cause GPSs problems finding them (luckily they have WiFi in the building). The building is also very small; it was raining so I didn't have the chance to scout out their grounds. 2014 Pinot Grigio; honeysuckle & melon palate, made in steel 2014 Petit Manseng; their tasting notes said pineapple but I thought I got a bit of honey as well. A good choice for Petit Manseng lovers. 2013 Chardonnay: I got the smokiness of the French Oak immediately; this type of Chard is exactly my style so I got a bottle (and I'm typically a white wine drinker) 2014 Sunset; semi sweet blend of Traminette & Viognier, which is still too sweet for me 2013 Moonrise Rose; I didn't think this was overly sweet as Roses go 2014 Cab Franc Reserve: The blackberry was very apparent; not peppery or leathery like other Cab Francs I'm accustomed to, but smoother. Very nice. 2013 Delfino Rosso: Red blend but heavy on the Cab Franc. Heavy smoky finish 2010 Nebbiolo: VERY expensive at mid-$40, but if you love this grape this is a good choice. I really enjoyed its velvety texture but not sure if I love it THAT much! read more

Pleasant visit to Gadino on Saturday. Enjoyed a bar side tasting, which we honestly haven't seen at a winery in about 2-3 years. Most other wineries re just doing flights so its nice to do a tasting again. Wines were good, if not particularly memorable. Tasting staff didn't seem particularly enthusiastic but we enjoyed our time there nonetheless. Seems like a nice place to visit on a sunny day. Probably the best winery in Sperryville area and the only one making estate wines I think. Would be fun to place bocce ball on their court on a nice day. Liked their Traminette wine and would enjoy the chance to try their Nebbiolo. read more

My sister and I visited Gadino Cellars in October 2020 while staying in Shenandoah National Park. The winery was lovely. Rita was knowledgeable, friendly and very attentive. We got to try about 7-8 wines for $10 in the tasting and then added on two special wines for an extra $4. The owner's dog Quinn was also a welcomed addition to the experience and laid by our table. They definitely had very adequate COVID procedures in place while we visits -- tables were distanced on the deck with additional tables on the grass. Overall the experience was great and I would definitely go back. We also visited Little Washington the same day --- we had a much better experience at Gadino and enjoyed the wine better. read more

We stopped by Gadino Cellars on a whim after seeing their sign along the road. We are certainly glad we did. Gadino Cellars is a small winery with a big personality in the name of the owner Bill Gadino who owns the winery with his wife Aleta (who made a brief appearance) Bill is super friendly, very knowledgeable and seems to love what he is doing. It was the 4th of July weekend and the place was somewhat busy but Bill had no problem engaging everyone. We found the wines to be quite good. Especially enjoyed the Pinot Grigio, Sunset, Petit Verdo along with their version of Port. We purchased a number of bottles and were on our way. We had a great time at Gadino Cellars. read more

I liked the ambiance, the staff was helpful, and we got free wine glasses with our tasting. Neither of us really liked the wines. One of the whites was fine. This is of course personal and no ones palate is the same so just because I wasn't a huge fan does not mean you won't be. Such a charming and beautiful winery! Everyone there was so kind and helpful. I was part of a bachelorette party and the staff set us up a table on their lovely patio area with beautiful flowers. The owner did our tasting and had us laughing the entire time with his great stories. The band there that day was awesome and Bill (the owner) even joined them with his accordion! Unfortunately I was unable to enjoy this winery due to lack of politeness from the owners. I was in a group of 9 for a bachelorette wine tasting. We made a reservation a few weeks in advance. Upon showing up we were greeted by the owner, Aleta, who was extremely rude upon seeing our group. She was unwelcoming with an attitude before we were even able to sit down. She kept telling us we needed a reservation to which we'd respond we have one. Instead of checking the computer for our reservation, her response was "well I don't know anything about that". The back and forth between us and the owners was less than pleasant, so we decided it was best we leave. Also....the male owner was not wearing a mask. read more

Paid $30 for a reservation ahead of time for me and 9 of my girlfriends for my friends bachelorette party. This was the first winery we went to of the day. We arrived as scheduled and was rudely greeted by an older woman behind the wine bar. For some reason, she was extremely condescending saying "she didn't know any reservation" and we can "speak to the owner". The owner arrives and was also extremely rude and very unaccomodating. We felt very uncomfortable about our first FIVE minutes here and decided to go the other beautiful wineries around. We literally have ZERO clue why we were treated like this. None of the staff were wearing masks either. It was very odd and we 1000% will not be returning. read more

Perfect stop right outside of Skyline Drive. A wine tasting was $10 for 3 whites, 3 reds, and 1 semi-sweet red. Their Cabernet Franc Reserva and Delfino Rosso were delicious accompaniments to a game of bocce on their court. The owner was super friendly and explained the rules of Bocce to my husband and me, and we enjoyed a very nice afternoon in the vineyard. My husband and I had the pleasure of being introduced to Gadino Cellars last weekend by our dear neighbors. The moment that Robert and I walked into the winery, we were met with warmth and graciousness by the winery owners, Bill and Aleta, AND with some absolutely delicious wines. I am a huge fan of Cabernet Sauvignons and was so impressed by Gadino Cellars' wine of this grape. Gadino Cellars' Cabernet is rich, intense and well structured and is completely free of that bitter aftertaste that one sometimes encounters with other Cabernets. Gadino Cellar's white wines are just as delicious and smooth and could be served with pride and confidence to anyone and would pair beautifully with any dish. Anyone who knows me, knows I am tough on local wineries. Gadino Cellars surpassed every expectation. I arranged a wine tour for this past weekend for 10 friends. It took weeks of planning ahead of time to coordinate with the wineries involved. The wineries we chose to attend were the ones that were responsive, professional, and friendly. Gadino Cellars was one of the lucky ones (or were we the lucky ones?). Throughout the process, I had to contact Gadino's 5-6 times about various logistics, etc and each time they were responsive and patient. The tasting room is surprisingly spacious, running narrow and long. It has a homey, open, and welcoming feel to it. The owner, Bill, handled our tasting. He was knowledgeable, in a friendly way. He knows his wines and was glad to answer any off-the-wall question people had, and with my friends, there were a few. The group enjoyed all of the wines. 2009 Barrel Select Chardonnay - was nice, light, smooth and flavorful. The winery says it has nuances of vanilla, butterscotch and apple. I definitely smelled/tasted the butterscotch (I love butterscotch). 2008 Sunset - was another popular wine with the group. We all decided it would make a good summer wine, sitting out on the patio. It's made from Traminette and Chardonnay. 2008 Cabernet Franc Riserva.- It had deep fruit flavor without being sweet. The wine sheet says: deep woodsy aroma with dark cherry and blackberry fruit, with a hint of licorice and spice. This was one of my favorites. Gadino also has a 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007 Imagine, and 2008 Dolce Sofia. The last two were sweet but oh so smooth. I really, really recommend this winery. Not only was the owner cool, but they let us bring our food into the winery. I was shocked since most places insist that you can only eat their food. Based on all of my interactions with them, Gadino Cellars is a welcomed addition to Virginia. read more

Gadino's tasting room feels brand new and spacious--but not in that gaudy, suburban way. You can take a deep sip of your wine, look out at their beautiful surroundings, share a joke with friends, and not worry that you're breaking some nitpicky rule or knocking over some cluttered, cheap decor like at other vineyards we visited in this area. You get a warm welcome and a friendly assurance that you don't have to pay your $5 for the tasting until after you taste--it's nice to get business out of the way. The owner ran our tasting and answered all our questions about wine in general as well as his particular vines. My sister and I both bought two bottles to take home (that's a lot for us) and definitely enjoyed every single glass we had there--NOTHING was off! (Usually you find one glass that just doesn't taste right, but not at Gadino.) Gadino is also very, very, very easy to find compared to many other Virginia vineyards. They have convenient parking, a nice space, and a great attitude. The one thing that I found mildly surprising was that you still pay $5 for your tasting even if you buy a bottle. Other wineries often waive the fee once you purchase a bottle, but Gadino didn't. Luckily it was very well worth the price. Gadino is a great first stop because you'll learn a lot about the local wine community. They're happy to answer questions. They actually have a kids' play area in the corner (way better than your dentist's waiting room, like an actually fun-looking, tidy play area!) and when we visited a mom was sharing a fancy cheese platter with her toddler son. (I kept waiting for him to steal a swig of her wine, but he didn't.) I highly recommend Gadino! read more

I'm going with the 3 over the 4 because we didn't have the opportunity to take in the cheese and sausage plate on the patio, though it looked good (too hot at the time to be outside). The rounds are lovely and it's easy to find down the winding gravel road. The interior is spacious, and they've thought ahead to set up a small play area in case you've got a few ankle biters with you. While the wonderful woman helping us was knowledgeable and friendly, the young men working with her seemed to be taking it easy and relying on her to ring up their sales and to answer questions that were being directed to them. She was pulling double duty, which put us in an awkward position. The wines were nice and the fennel cookies were a great palate cleanser between the red and white selections. If you're making the rounds, be sure to stop by and get a taste. read more

I love dog friendly wineries. This place is the quintessential family owned winery. Apparently they have some of the oldest vines in VA, but that's a claim I've heard from multiple vineyards at this point. The staff and owner are really friendly, and they say they have bonfires on Saturdays. It's really close to a great hike - Little Devil Stairs. So for a perfect Saturday, I plan on bringing my dog along for a hike, wine and bonfire. read more

We think Gadino's wines are some of the best in Virginia, so we decided to try a tasting at the winery. The Good: The wines are fairly great all around. There's no doubt the location is away from the hustle and bustle. The picnic tables and bocce courts are a nice way to kill an afternoon. The Bad $5 for 6 sips of wine is kinda ridiculous, especially if you want me to buy something. It can get pretty loud in the tasting room, they should do something to deaden it. Who knew there would be so many kids running around a winery? The experience was 3 stars, plus 1 for the wine. It's hard to find Gadino wines in some areas of northern Virginia, so that's worth a stop if you're the area. I can't really see a return visit to the tasting except maybe taking "out of towners" to something different within reasonable driving distance. read more

Wanted to provided an update that they now are offering wines from their sister winery in Italy. There are two wines, a white (available only to club members) and a red. The white, 2010 DiGiovanna Grillo, is a nice crisp wine with a mineral rich finish. The red, 2009 DiGiovanna Nero D'avola, Their description reads "A young Sicilian wine which taunts the palate with currant, dried berry fruit and Mediterranean herbs." We really enjoyed this one. We even brought how two bottles. Our plan is to place them in our cellar, one for the not too far future, and the other to lay down for a few years. We really think it will age nicely. Of course the wines they produce are as good as ever. Their classic summertime, or as Bill likes to call it, a hut tub wine, the Sunset is fantastic. So many great wines here and the owners and staff are always so friendly. read more

After a long Easter weekend with the in-laws in South Carolina filled with a bounty of food and relished moments on the beach in the Spring sun; I somehow managed to talk some friends to join Wife, Dog, and I on an outing to Gadino Cellars in Virginia under the premise of planting a vine in honor of Earth Day. With a beautiful day, some good friends, and the promise of a good time with good wine ahead of us and a lunch at Chipotle inside of us, we headed out. After an easy drive made longer by construction on 66, we passed the storied town of Little Washington and reached our destination, Gadino Cellars. With thirst and curiosity calling, we left the warm sun and went to the tasting bar. Unlike many wineries in Napa, Sonoma and other places, the Gadino family is intimately involved in all parts of the winery, and with two generations of the family working behind the tasting bar during our visit, their joy in working their winery was apparent and infectious to all tasting their wine. For five dollars per guest, we tasted eight wines and were able to keep the glass - a practice many wineries have stopped due to the current "economic environment." All of the wines were fun and drinkable in a wide variety of situations or foods. Of the eight, the 2007 Sunset, 2006 Merlot, and 2006 Delfino Rosso were my personal favorites, each offering flavors matching the style/grape while still being unique when compared to other local or CA wines. I think my last review was a little too inflated. I do love Gadino but alas it is not "as good as it gets" yet I am still certainly a fan. We went to Gadino on Saturday after the big storm on Friday evening that knocked out power nearly everywhere. They said they opened late but most of their staff had not shown up which created a bit of a chaotic scene. There were only 2 staff people trying to serve tastings, sell wine, and accommodate 15-20 when I was there. They handled the situation very well and we left with more wine than we bargained for. We even signed up for their VIP Club which I am very excited about. If you haven't been to Gadino, I highly recommend adding it to your touring list. read more

We stumbled upon this place when we were coming back from Luray Caverns and heading back to Arlington. It was an ad-hoc roadtrip where we decided we wanted to do some wine tasting. The staff here is very nice and sociable and the atmosphere is very nice. They have a nice patio for you to sit outside and enjoy your wine as well as a nice bench underneath a big tree if you want some shade. There is also two area's for you to play some Bocci if you want to check that out. The wine here was pretty good from our little wine tasting. It's $5 for wine tasting and you get a free glass. We ended up getting one of their white wine's which was very light. Just a warning though, my girlfriend and I somehow ended up being a feast for mosquitos as our legs got bitten up quite a bit. I love going winery hopping in Virginia and was happy to stumble upon Gadino Cellars. My friends and I had booked a tasting at the Copper Fox Distillery, which was close by, and then decided to visit a couple of the local wineries afterwards. There are so many to choose from in the area and Gadino was the first that we saw after leaving the distillery. It is in a beautiful location of VA and has lovely views of the mountains. The staff was friendly and there was no wait even though 7 of us rolled in at one time. I really enjoyed the Pinot Grigio, Sunset, and Viognier, but it is kind of silly to rate wines when everyone has different tastes. We could have gone on a tour, but we wanted to head out and try another winery. I would check it out again next time I am in the area. read more

This was our third stop of the day, a spur of the moment. I was disappointed with how small the tastings were. In fact, it was actually difficult to really tell the difference between any of the wines. You do get to keep your glasses, our 16 year old daughter was able to keep her glass that she had water in.
