We took a little adventure to Kindred Pointe Winery because that 2023 Petit Verdot we tried at the Shenandoah Cup was living rent-free in our minds -- and babyyyy, it delivered AGAIN! This was my second time and Nikki's first, and we pulled up READY for great wine, good vibes, and a cute little winery moment . From the second we walked in, the staff greeted us like we were long-lost cousins coming home for the holidays . We did a guided tasting at the bar -- six wines for around $15 (a STEAL, okay!?), and the fun began. Nikki's fave: Bourbon Barrel Chambourcin -- the star of her whole life that day 2019 Chambourcin Oaked Aged 36 months in new American oak... listen... this wine came in sweet on the nose, fruity on the tongue, and creamy on the finish. Light, playful, and honestly kinda flirty. Perfect with stuffing or honestly anything because she was drinking it like it was juice . My fave: 2018 Petit Manseng -- MY GIRL!! Light, dry, citrusy, pear-y, pineapple-y and giving "I'm that wine" energy. Complex but still smooth... basically the Beyoncé of the tasting. We even got to try some wines that weren't on the list, and let me tell you -- 90% of their wines were hitting. Like, not one flop in sight . But the BEST part? The vibe. The service. The winery and cidery (Life is Hard Cidery) are at the same location and have spectacular views of pastures and fields. There's a cute cat on the property and dogs are welcomed on the patio! You can create your own flight of 5 wines or ciders. Skip the wine and go for the cider! They are both on the dry side. There's a galore of chocolate truffles, which paired well with the wine. The Coconut Lime sweet cider was my favorite and bought a can while hubby enjoyed the Banana Stout cider and bought 2 cans. The ciders weren't bottled and on draft. The ginormous cans are 25 oz (standard can is 12 oz!) and look like mini growlers. Great staff, wonderful views, and delicious Coconut Lime Cider - truly a hidden gem! read more

Beautiful setting with outdoor seating and pet-friendly indoor seating. They have snacks for purchase and their wine and hard ciders are really tasty. The staff was friendly and this ended up being a nice stop on our way back from the caverns. read more

We were looking for a kid friendly winery that had a variety for our group of four adults and four kids. We called ahead and did not require a reservation but we're advised that the pavilion is where we would go and would be kid friendly. parking was easy. There was some outdoor seating but I am guessing that's more for the warmer months. We sat inside and there was a great variety of tables as well as sofas for casual conversations and wine going. They had a good variety of ciders as well as wine, my sister and her fiancé ordered the cider flight, where as I had a glass of 2014 Chardonnay. Lucky for me my Chardonnay was on sale starting at a discount for three bottles or by the case. I left with three bottles to bring home. There was also an area to purchase some quick snacks, such as chocolates, cheeses, nuts, and meats there was water and soda for sale for the kids, as well as some local trinkets for sale. Service was fast and friendly, staff was knowledgeable and helped with recommendations, it is a beautiful venue and we really enjoyed our visit. read more

Arrived at Kindred Pointe and found a nice welcoming tasting room. We each chose a flight. I especially liked the Chardonnay and my husband like the Headquarters at Narrow Passage which was placed in a old whiskey barrel. Nice place, wonderful staff. Would defiantly come back here. read more

I've been here several times, but this last visit really stood out. And I learned that Michael Shaps - one of the Virginia's most famous wine makers - is behind the wines! Even better, as of last year, they made this place into a cidery (curtesy of one of the owners)! The good news keeps on getting better. Kindred used to be a horse farm, and the tasting room is the former stables (horses are a key motif here). The tasting room is totally cozy, with a fire burning and comfy chairs all over. Even before drinking, the appearances had me impressed. Production-wise, this place is small; likely under 1000 cases/year, some estate grown (Chambourcin and Viognier) but most grapes purchased from other vineyards. But when you have Mike Shaps as your wine maker, this is not a bad thing. Normally my tasting notes differ from what they suggest, but here everything they described was spot on. They have 3 tasting options; red, white, and sweet, plus a cider option (up to 6). So you definitely won't go thirsty here! Whites: The Viognier was crisp, clean, and notes of peach - one of the nicer ones I've had in a while. The Chardonnay was nice as well. The Petit Manseng was made in a desert style; so sweet, but more syrupy than sugary sweet. I even liked the Rose (a rarity for me), which had a great orange-y color but more of a semi-sweet, with nice acidity. Red: Malbecs are hard to find; the fruit came from Charlotsville and had notes of tart strawberry, like you get when you pluck them straight from the patch. The Cab Sav had obvious notes of being in American oak, almost overpoweringly so. The Chambourcin was one of the bolder ones I've had in a while, also made in American oak. The Merlot was just OK. The rest: I couldn't resist a flight of 3 x cider samples. I skipped the ones advertising hops or sweetness, although maybe that was a mistake since I found the Hard Times too dry for me. The Cinifoot was advertised as cinnamon flavored, although I barely tasted it. But I LOVED the Cherry Bomb, which interestingly enough had a jalapeno finish (I like jalapenos, BTW). I finished everything off with some mulled wine. read more

4/5. A cool place to visit. We took the trip out here from the DC area based on a recommendation and were not disappointed. It's further out than many of the wineries, along 81 past the end of 66, but it's worth the extra driving. We tried both the wine and the cider. I thought the wines were good and more or less in line with the better wineries in Virginia. The ciders I really enjoyed, particularly the seasonal cider. They had a good range of dry and sweet ciders. The tasting room was fairly small but well appointed. It felt like a perfect place on a cool fall afternoon to enjoy a flight or glass of wine. read more

I love the inside of this winery; cozy and really pretty; big enough to hold a bunch of people, but provides plenty of spots to feel intimate as well. Nice in the winter, with the fire place. I also love that they have cider here, so you can mix up a cider flight with the wine. The grounds outside are also nicely attended to. On the downside, by far, the wine here was the least interesting. I wouldn't buy their wine, but I'd come back here to sip it in the beauty of the place (and the cider is worth tasting too; again, not the best I've had; a lot of it was too sweet; but it was nice to have the option). read more

Shenadoah Wine Tours set up our tasting for my party of 9. It was our last stop on a hot day. Perfect! Everyone wanted a little something different. My friends had the cider flights (omg they were good!) And I had the sangria slushie. You could hang out inside or sit outside where they had tables and umbrellas. Really quaint winery. Really good value on the wine tasting. We tried 4 whites, 4 reds, 1 sangria, 1 reserve white and 1 reserve red for $8. The favorites were the 2013 merlot and reserve Chardonnay. They also have cider tastings. The interior is antique-modern and felt cozy and the staff was very nice. The light fixtures were made of wine bottles. The tasting room was a little on the small side and it was fairly loud with only a few people on a Sunday. It was a little far out of the way from the main road but it was a nice break in the long drive home. read more

From the moment we pulled up we were very impressed by the grounds and how beautifully landscaped they are. The tasting room is in an old horse stable and has a unique combination of wood, carpet, rubber and concrete flooring. Inside the tasting room is like an old time museum. We enjoyed walking around looking at everything. The various display cases are old and transferred there from various locations. For instance, the big case in front if the main tasting bar came from an old pharmacy in Philly. The tasting bar itself is an old grain display case. They have lots of nice wines related items to purchase and have tons of Americana on display. The tasting we received was very nicely done. The gentleman who gave it was knowledgeable in wine and in their process of wine making. The wines tasted really nice. They after sangria by pitcher and half pitcher as well as offering adult slushies. Overall, you won't be disappointed visiting this quaint winery. It's a must see if you're in the area! read more

Thanks! We stopped by after a "bit so good experience" at another vineyard. Never heard of the winery but it looked really cool. Very large open area and loved that all the doors were open with lots of fresh air! The two young ladies were welcoming. We discovered that not only they sell wine but hard cider! We did a sampler and loved the Orange Hard Cider and then we tried the Cherry Habanero (thanks to the recommendation of the server). Fantastic! Then the other server said, "oh you have to try the coconut lime hard cider!" We couldn't decoder which growler to take home so we took one of each (orange, coconut lime, and the cherry habanero!!! We will be back and we will tell others!!! read more

I wanted to wait a few years before reviewing this winery as my first experience there, right after they opened, was not so great (there was some sort of locals festival happening and we felt like outsiders at the winery). The visit two weekends ago was superb. The wine was better than I remembered it being (I recall they didn't have many of their own wines during the first visit). Merlot and chambourcin were our favorites, and the member of the staff pouring wines (very friendly, wish I could remember her name) offered several different chardonnays too - including some not on the list). Firepit, low volume of music on speakers, wonderful scenery, visits from the owner's cats...what more could you ask for? When they closed, they were very polite and the owner himself came over to apologize and explain why they had to close the gates (some county law). We corked our wine (great horse-themed label) and moved on. Another winner in the valley! read more

I went to Kinderd Pointe on 11/12/16 on the suggestion of a friend. I have not really explored this area of VA for wine tasting and was looking forward to sampling it. I really enjoyed the winery. The ambiance was very comfortable with seats both inside and outside for patrons to bring over a bottle of wine or a flight of cider. The winery does not have a large food selection. If you're thinking you'll stay awhile it is probably best you bring some munchies with you. It did not appear they had any rules about bringing in outside food. I saw several groups who had chosen this winery as a place to meet up with a group of friends (many of them had coordinate bringing snacks). I had a tasting of their wine. It was all good and had I not already had a full wine cabinet, I might have been convinced to bring home a bottle. I also had their cider flight. I thought most of the ciders were fantastic. I choose to take home a growler size portion of their Seasons Greetings cider. It is going to be a perfect addition to a Thanksgiving meal. They offer branded growlers for purchase with an additional cost to fill it. In retrospect (since I already own a number of growlers), I should have brought growlers with me for the cider. I did not get the impression you had to purchase their branded growler for a cider fill. The only reasons I am not going to give them a higher rating (and I will fully admit is minor) is the live music. The musician was excellent. However, the space is small (not a great winery for a bus tour unless you're coming in the spring/summer when you can use their outdoor space) and the music acoustically bounces off the their walls making it hard to hear the people you came with. I also thought some more signs on the little windy roads pointing you in the right direction would have been helpful. In a nutshell, I will be back because I like their wine but I loved their cider. read more

Kindred Pointe is truly nestled deep within their property and is surrounded by spectacular mountain vistas best viewed during walks around the grounds. Allowing your pallet to savor the painstaking and skillful labors of Gods work in the vineyard you find your self in a refurbished horse barn that is now a warm and eclectic mix of old and new. We do lots of wineries in and around The Valley and Kindred Pointe is among our top 3 currently. Looking forward to returning to see Amy and Rosie and hopefully catch a glimpse of Oscar! This place is fantastic! Split a full cider flight with my boyfriend and really enjoyed getting to taste all of the different funky and classic flavors. Pretty generous pour of each cider such that we both got a decent amount of each type. Special favorites were the cherry bomb and orange creamsicle flavors. Disappointing that they only have these flavors in the larger bottles and not the bombers, but totally understand why. The location is beautiful and peaceful and we really enjoyed sitting on the patio, strolling around, and befriending a neighbor's cat. Will definitely return if we're in the area. read more

This has become one of my favorite wineries to visit in Virginia. Their tasting room is lovely and offers a lot of space to relax in- and out-doors. Kids are more than welcome, and can even enjoy virgin smoothies while the parents are sampling the wines. Gorgeous grounds surround the tasting room and there is ample room to bring a picnic. So glad to find a combo winery/cidery so close to home. Very quaint cozy tasting room, with dual fireplaces, and comfy furniture. The tall bar stools were so plush that I could have stayed all day. There are unique items for sale, along with wines and ciders. I had the cider flight and loved them all! My boyfriend did the Red wine testings, and found the Cabernet to be his favorite. Needless to say we left with additional bottles of cider and wine to enjoy at home. We also tried the bread with the garlic infused olive oil---O.M.G. Fabulous! They also offer cheeses and meats, plus chocolate truffles. It was cold, so we stayed inside, but there is a lovely space outside for guests as well. This was my third time here. There is always a friendly staff and I have always loved the atmosphere. It's so nice and cozy. This time I was very impressed by the wines. One of the only vineyards in Virginia that I have been to that offer Malbec. I tend to enjoy a full bodied dry wine and this vineyard came through. I also liked the Chardonnay. Always worth the trip. I wish we had more places like this is Maryland. read more

The converted horse stable is quant and cozy with a rustic chic decor. The wine and cider flights are expertly poured ($6-$8). I would highly advise the sangria, mulled wine and ginger cider. They offer local potato chips (Route 11), chocolate and a sausage (venison and wild boar) & cheese (cheddar, gouda, havarti and swiss) plate ($6) The staff are extremely friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. Kindred Vinyard lacked a "Kindred Spirit." We were looking forward to a special time with our "Bride to Be." It seemed as though the staff went out of their way to spoil our experience. However, we did buy some of their wine and took our party elsewhere. The Malbec and Merlot were their only saving grace. read more

The wine tasting room is a renovated horse barn and it's absolutely beautiful. There is plenty of space at the tasting counter, the fire place is going as weather allows, lots of comfortable seating both inside and out. Outside, there's a fire-pit, a couple of corn hole sets, and frisbee golf. Their gift shop sells s'more kits as well as meat and cheese plates. The wine itself is great; mostly dry or semi-dry. Both whites and reds are delicious at this vineyard.Seasonally, they are offering a delicious mulled wine that would be awesome to sit around the fire-pit and sip on with friends.
