Beautiful view! The staff were great, helpful, and informative. They have outside patio seating, covered seating upstairs inside seating, and a few chairs in the grassy area to enjoy the view. Loved the format of a flight for the tasting. We also needed a snack, so we got the olives and cheese. The green olives were the best I've had in forever. The double-decker bus is ao cool. When we visited Luray Cavern and wanted to check vineyards around the area, this vineyard showed up on Yelp. We were glad that we found this place. The place is very charming. The service is very friendly and dog friendly. There are many tables upstairs. My husband and I ordered Reserve Flight and Red Wine Flight. I really enjoyed Sparking Rose. It was very refreshing. My husband loves port wine. He enjoyed Fandango. The red wines are pretty good. We bought a bottle of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. They are medium bold, not too dry, and tannin. We searched Vineyards in the area and this one came up. My husband likes port wine so we decided on this one. Port wine came be hard to find at wineries. This Vineyard was definitely down a beaten path in the middle no where. I mean no where. The property itself was beautiful. The view of the mountains was beautiful. Once entering were greeted promptly. We decided to do a flight each. I decided on the spring flight and hubs did the sweet flight. Both were pretty tasty and hubs said the port wine was pretty good. We decided to order 2 red slushees which were super yummy! We also got a Charcuterie board too. That's was super dooper yummy! We didn't take any wine home. Just had a good time relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. Would definitely stop here, it's worth the drive off the beaten path. read more

A place we have stopped in a total of four or five times now. Most recently my wife and I were joined by one of her sisters. It was a slightly chilly late December afternoon. The ladies each did a flight and I had a mug Of their mulled wine. We enjoyed their delightful $5 dish of chocolate and their $5 cheese and olives. Both were a nice mix and very reasonably priced. Even though there were nice gas fire pits available, we opted for the upstairs indoor seating w a view over the vineyards to the mountains. Service is always warm And friendly. read more

To get to this winery, we made a turn off the interstate and followed the GPS directions through the beautiful Virginia countryside. This winery is in a beautiful location with the driveway running along side the vineyard. There a lovely building with a large patio and a pavilion, also. We were traveling with our dog and I went into the winery to see if she would be allowed to accompany us. The owner was very enthusiastic and said she couldn't wait to meet our dog! Well, that made us happy and we knew we picked a fabulous place. The day we were there, they weren't doing tastings, but flights were available for purchase. It was a very hot, humid day; so we got a decided to go with a sweet flight. It included 2 wine slushies (red & white) and 2 other additional wines. Both of the slushies were delicious. As for the other 2 choices, they were fine, but not what we wanted. The owner was very friendly and made sure all the visitors were being attended to. She even had a treat for our dog. We needed to get back on the road for our trip home, but this was a much needed break from the interstate and the 4 hours drive. Husband and I chose the white wine slushie and a bottled white wine called "Summer Splash" to take home. Also, I purchased two souvenir wine glasses. I hope to find myself on the road again in this area and will definitely stop in here again. read more

My husband and I were visiting in the area and this winery was on our way home from a big hike and we thought to stop by. We were blown away by the wine. We are very used to Georgia wines and mountain hikes (the wine there is very sweet) and assumed it would be nearly the same here. The wine at this vineyard is 10/10. If you love fruity,earthy and dry you will adore this place. I ordered a sparkling flight and my husband ordered a red flight. I personally favored the Riesling blanc de blanc and my husband favored the chambourcin red wine. We got a bottle to go of the chambourcin and also took home some soap and wine glasses. A huge highlight for cold weather visits was the mulled wine. It was so good that my husband and I wish they bottled it to go. We had so much fun while we visited and we would go to cave ridge every time we visit the area!! read more

One of the better wineries in the Shenandoah - and that says a lot since this area is an up & coming place for wine. 13 acres of vines, somewhere over 5,000 cases/year, and just about 100% estate. The owner is something of a superman. Not only is he the winemaker and vineyard manager, he also manages another vineyard. If I was in his shoes, I'd be kicking back with a bottle every night...which is probably why I'd make a bad winery owner. Cave Ridge is bigger than some neighbors; while many are mom & pop operations, Cave Ridge's tasting room is more polished and can accommodate bigger groups. My server seemed knowledgeable about their operation; I tried stumping him with questions about their wine making style & production, but he knew his stuff. The whites generally didn't impress me (with one exception), although every one had a nice nose. But I really liked the reds, and was surprised by the number of desert wines that stayed around 12% alcohol. They seemed especially proud of their Chambourcin, which they used in many of their creations. $6 for the standard 6 wines, or $10 for 10 which includes several desert style wines (plus I got a 'bonus' tasting). What I tried: 2014 Char'Ve: 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Viognier. Very clean finish; liked it a lot. Viognier: Floral nose, not too sweet, but this is rarely a grape that I enjoy Traminette: Super floral nose and lychee palate 2013 Riesling: Pretty good 2013 Chambourcin: Nice smoky palate; not fruity like I'm accustomed to for this grape 2012 Syrah: Plumb palate; Syrah actually grows relatively well in their area, which is pretty rare 2012 Fossil: Red blend; wasn't a huge fan 2012 Petit Verdot: really nice; maybe my favorite of the lineup. Not as full bodied as some other PVs. Mount Jackson Rouge: Desert red wine but not very strong; the Chambourcin really shines thru La Petit Traminette: Desert white wine with a nice lemon notes Fandango port-style: Huge nose & wonderful almost peppermint flavor. I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Cheap tastings and comfy outdoor seating with gas fire pits. Because we motioned to buy a bottle, they let us try a few of their wines which was very nice. Loved their Chardonnay and Viognier. Also, they had some great pours when ordering full glasses. Very respectful and informative employee UPDATE: WENT BACK AGAIN with my girlfriends family and wow was it even more pleasant! This time it was more crowded but they had gluwein for the holidays and local vendors, cooks and restaurants. I had the meat jambalaya and it was amazing!!!! $5 for a big cup. Saved the day. This time we sat upstairs and the overall ambiance is very lodge-like and inviting. Will definitely go back. read more

During my recent stay at Bryce, I spent Saturday afternoon visiting a couple of wineries. Cave Ridge was first on my list. I opted for the full wine tasting. We started with the whites - and then moved on to the reds. The only wine that resonated with me was the 2011 Riesling. I am more of a red wine drinker - but I did not find any of their reds really making me say "Wow! - I need to drink this again!" The tasting room is nicely appointed, and the small courtyard outside features a fountain and some tables and chairs. A nice view overlooking east towards the Massanutten Mountains can he had here. We came here on a cold Monday in November. This vineyard is located on a quiet hillside a bit west off the interstate. The place was completely empty so we were a little hesitant, but we were welcomed so graciously by Holly at the main bar downstairs. We were the only patrons most of the visit, so the service was much more personalized. She gave us excellent wine recommendations based on our preferences, started up a nice conversation and really presented a fantastic, intimate tasting experience. We were even able to sample a pre-release sparkling rosé... simply because I told her it was my favorite. Overall, their wine is absolutely delicious! We sat upstairs in a festively decorated dining room and enjoyed multiple glasses. They have a selection of light foods you can purchase to go with the wine, but also allow you to bring your own snacks. There's an entire outdoor area with private igloos for larger groups, and what looks like an outdoor bar with tables. I would LOVE to come back in warmer weather to enjoy some time outside with the beautiful Virginia landscape in the background. We would definitely visit again! Beautiful, well maintained grounds. We came here after a rafting trip in WV while heading back to DC. It was the perfect pit stop. We got hit with a summer rain but the sky cleared up and we sat outside on the upper deck and listened to the fantastic live music upstairs. Everyone was really sweet. The wine was pretty good as far as Virginia wines go. I am generally a red wine enthusiast but the Chardonnay won the taste test during the reserve wine tasting. I am shocked! There are some lawn games on the property. It is a fun place to spend an afternoon. I will definitely add this to my VA winery must stop list. I forgot to mention, the pours are really small compared to a few other tasting rooms nearby. But the scenery is beautiful! read more

We had such a fantastic time at Cave Ridge Vineyard. It was my and my mom's birthday, so we came here to check out some tastings and the scenery. They didn't have tastings, but were offering wine flights, which included a fall-themed flight that I enjoyed. The staff were super kind and accommodating. We sat outside by the cozy and warm fire pit to taste our wines, and brought our own cheeseboard, which the staff gave us plates and napkins for. Let's get the disclaimer out of the way at the beginning. I know Megan & Rusty Phillips and they are fine people, but they didn't ask me to write this review. If you think that fact biases me past the point of credibility, stop reading now. Cave Ridge is in a beautiful location with a view of the mountains on the horizon and the rows of vines in the foreground. There is limited indoor seating but abundant and comfortable seating outside. Fridays the winery has events. The night we visited there was line dancing instruction. You can call to learn of future events. Cave Ridge also has Virginia's only winery party bus that is a converted English double-decker bus. I'm already married, but it still looks like the bus would be fun at a wedding, tailgating before a football game or other big event that could use some pizazz. If you've read my winery reviews before, you know I know very little about wine. I'm more of a bourbon man, but my wife does know wine and she's a big fan. I know fun and the wine slushies are outstanding, get-a-designated-driver good. I liked the Rose version and Cave Ridge calls it a "lushie." I also like the Fandango wine, which is more like a port. The vineyard offers finger food, cheese, crackers and other snacks. There is plenty of area in which to roam. I would go back again even if I didn't know the owners! read more

Another weekend, another group of wineries to visit ... On our way to Roanoke for a surprise birthday party for my brother (he was surprised) and we decided to take advantage of the numerous wineries along the way. The tasting room is quite nice and the staff friendly and informative. I must say, given the scoring system used by my wife, the wines here were very good. We purchased a bottle of the 2009 Cab Franc which we will hold until sometime in 2013. We also enjoyed the 2009Fossil Hill Reserve as well as the 2011 Riesling (very refreshing on a hot day). One interesting note - we enjoy wine tasting not only for the wine but for the opportunity to meet people who are interested in having a good time. We met a couple here who lived a mile from our house in Avon Lake, Ohio (we lived there for 4 years before moving to NJ) and frequented a place called Close Quarters, which I have reviewed. They even knew our favorite bartender and took a picture of us along with greetings. It is a small world, indeed. read more

My wife and I visited this winery 2 days ago and had a great time. The space and decor are great. The seating options vary. They have some igloos for group isolation along with outdoor lounge seating with heat lamps. The wine selections are great and so are their flights. I had the sparkling flight and my wife had the white wine flight. They also have some boxed bites that are tasty. The staff are very friendly and one of them even gave us great eating recommendations that worked out for us. I would definitely recommend and revisit. read more

We stopped in after visiting nearly all the other wineries in the Shenandoah Wine Trail and we were very happy to have come here! The staff was VERY knowledgeable and friendly and accommodating! As we were doing our tasting, they made great suggestions and gave good examples. They grow many of their own grapes to make most all their wines. They also have a nice selection of reds and red blends and their ChardiVie is very nicely done! The grounds are nicely kept with a beautiful seating and patio area outside near a lovely fountain. Prices are a little on the higher end of midway, but not too expensive. You definitely need to give them a try! read more

I've been to this vineyard twice now, December 26, 2014 and again on July 15, 2015. Both tastings were delightful. In December, we were lucky enough to be there when the owner was doing the tasting. He gave us nice pointers for how to "taste" red wines. I purchased a bottle of a reserve sweet red wine. My friends and I also purchased glasses of their mulled red wine and enjoyed them upstairs by the fire. AWESOME mulled wine. In July I took my husband for a tasting. For a spontaneous trip by 4 adults, a 5 y/o & a canine on an Easter Sunday during COVID, we didn't know what to expect. We called ahead for a reservation & to make sure it was ok to bring our pup & the hostess said, "Of course! We can't wait to meet your dog!" Lol - that set the tone for our visit. The staff is friendly and relaxed, the views are lovely & the wine is delicious. Our reservation for group lounge seating led us to a comfy outdoor seating area in the corner of their large, covered patio. (It appears they may have live performances in this area at some point.) I would imagine the place can get pretty full & lively! I enjoyed a sparkling raspberry noir. I've never had anything like it & I was impressed with the richness combined with the bubbles! I had two of the same even tho I usually like to sample a variety. Our friends enjoyed a glass each of the Rose, then got a bottle of the same. My husband very much enjoyed their Chardonnay. Not sweet, very full-bodied. This business is very thoughtful in their COVID safety measures. There is no wait service at this time; The food is limited to snack boxes (hummus & crackers, Charcuterie, olive & cheese) ordered at a counter (same with drinks). I really like this place. Almost tempted to say 4 stars, but I'll leave a little room for improvement. They do all their wines well, the staff is friendly and welcoming and its just a nice place to be. They have recently renovated the whole place, and its nice and new but still has the rustic feel you'd expect out in the Shenandoah valley amongst thousand of vines. They do Syrah best. Perhaps throughout the state. I'm not sure, I'll have to think about that. Its both bold and smooth, dry and refreshing. This is a great place to visit for a tasting and then to hang out afterward. We had taken a jaunt down to Shenandoah valley for the caverns and then a vineyard or 2 on the way back. We stopped in here. It is definitely a trip off the highway. IT took us a while to get there. IF we had been in the mood there appeared to be at least 3 others in the area. We were greeted warmly and offered a full tasting or just the basic We went with the full since we enjoy red wines more than whites. The location is great and beautiful! In the middle of the woods, plenty of outdoor seating, tables and chairs and the views! (we'll be back in the warmer weather!) Here are my tasting notes (just my opinions mainly for future use!) We found a couple we enjoyed and hubby bought a bottle of their port: Traminette 2014 - very tasty and drinkable Viognier 2014 - just ok Riesling 2014 - drinkable and tasty Chambourcin - to dry for me Syrah - supposed to be the best in the state - just ok for me Mount Jackson Rouge - very nice desert wine Fossil Hill Reserve - enjoyed quite a bit Cab Franc - just ok (but i love another, so none can compare!)
