What a phenomenal day we had at Wolf Gap Vineyard! We had our son's rehearsal dinner here and it was amazing. From planning with Amber through to working with Janel on the day, it was smooth and easy and they were just as excited as we were to make the day special. Views of the mountains, sky, and lawn were incredible from the lovely pavilion. The food topped it all off. Tender pulled pork and tasty potato salad and coleslaw among other dishes. I've been to Wolf Gap a number of times but have yet to do a review. After reading a few of the comments within the last two years or so about ownership, I wanted to provide clarity. The ownership changed hands within the last couple years. I never visited under the previous ownership just because I never made it out. However the current owners are VERY different from what I've read about the prior owner/staff. JC and Janel really love what they do, the area, their staff, and their patrons! They go out of their way to make everyone feel welcomed and part of the winery family! Anyone who had a not-so-great experience before should give this location another shot! Wolf Gap is such a gorgeous location -- sporting some amazing views in the valley. If you want an intimate setting, pop into the tasting room (and then walk the property). Have a bigger group and want to be outside? Sit out on the pavilion and enjoy! Make sure to check out their website, their Facebook page, or message them on Facebook to see what's going on. Check them out on "First Friday" where they offer a special food menu (Nov 1 First Friday offered: chili, baked potato soup, crab dip, pulled chicken sandwich, bratwurst, and other items). We had a great experience here. We arrived early in the day and did a full tasting from their list. We really enjoyed the On Cloud Vine and the Chambourcin Bleu, and ended up buying them. The property is set in a beautiful spot in Edinburgh and has a cozy view of the rolling geography there. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed a nice walk around the land on the large pathway that encompasses the property. There are a variety of isolated seating areas, including a gazebo and adirondack chairs etc. They have a nice indoor area as well and a roofed outdoor area (with heating) for all types of folks. Will be a repeat in the future. read more

The Vineyard was amazing! It gave all the very best vibes: with food, wine, service, and music! We enjoyed some love tunes! The service is unmatched .... Everyone is extremely friendly, attentive, and kind! A STRONG 5 stars for above and beyond service! The wine was amazing- including semi-sweet to dry (something for everyone)... we LOVED the blueberry and Rosé Lobo Loco! We went on a little walk along the path down to the gazebo and relaxed for a bit to just enjoy nature! The yards are manicured beautifully! Since we were kind of "hiding" in the gazebo, the staff found us and brought our food down for us to enjoy! We weren't expecting that at all but it really set a precedent and we felt so cared about by the members of vineyard. From arrival until departure, the entire experience was amazing! The warm baguette with pesto was a treat complimenting my tasting well. On a foggy, winter Monday, my favorite is the cab sauv. Service was prompt and friendly. Deck, covers patio, w/ garage doors to open in warmer weather. A gas fireplace adds ambiance. No cushioned seating. read more

I gave them 3 stars, but our experience was mostly good until the end. We went to the winery on Saturday the 7th of June. It was a pleasant day and the vineyard is beautiful. We ordered a flight and most of the wines were good. I am mainly a dry red wine lover but really enjoyed the Chardonnay. My husband and I enjoyed a bottle of the red at the winery and ordered two bottles to take home. We bought the Chardonnay and a red Chambourcin Bleu. Our day was wonderful the staff we encountered was very nice except for a lady that was working in the tasting area. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day but she was rude when my husband ordered the bottles to take home and when we got home we saw that she gave us the Traminette. We both hate sweet wines, so what do we do with this bottle of kool-aid? We live an hour away, so driving back to return it isn't a choice. This is the first time this has happened in our 15 years of going to Virginia wineries. We feel if this lady wasn't having a bad attitude this would not of happened. Overall the wine was good and the vineyard is very lovely. I highly recommend this vineyard, but double check your wine if you are dealing with a lady that works in the tasting area. read more

A beautiful winery in the Edinburg area. They have a nice new pavilion with lovely ve music on Sundays. The winetenders are very friendly and good. They offer a nice 4 wine flight. It can get a little breezy at the pavilion. They have nice little walking trail and a gazebo you can do tastings in. Lovely valley views. read more

Great vineyard for humans and dogs alike. Vineyard has been around for 20 years, but new owners have revamped the atmosphere. New pavilion with live music & many seating options across the property with amazing views of the mountains and vineyard. One of the few vineyards where you cannot hear the roads. Great light and crisp summer wines. read more

We visited here this afternoon and had a very enjoyable visit. Trish was a delightful server. The views are really pretty. The wines were ok. Nothing really knocked our socks off. The new owners who live in Tampa are making some nice changes so it will be nice to try them again. No food options but we brought a picnic. It was delightful. read more

The place was very nice and staff very welcoming! We had a reservation. We were a group of 15 seniors. We were told we be sitting inside and we were, however, there were three full size garage doors open on a chilly spring day. Not exactly inside. Lots of different places to sit indoors and outside. Beautiful view of the mountains! Later we walked down to the outdoor pavilion where there was music. They actually have another tasting bar down there. It was actually warmer down there because they had outdoor heaters in the pavilion where they had music and we sat on the outside in the sun. Wines were fine. They don't offer much food. Some snacks, I think. We brought our own which is allowed. I would definitely go back to enjoy an afternoon of wine and music when the weather is warmer! read more

Tiny, family owned and operated place. The owner is also the wine maker. That's not always a good thing, but it works here. It's hard not to arrive at Wolf Gap in a bad mood; it is set in a gorgeous part of the Shenandoah, after all. They have 7 acres of vines, and their wines are typically 100% estate. They even have some Cabernet Sauvignon planted, which does well despite this area not being a great place for a planting. But Chambourcin and Traminette are king here. I didn't take great notes here but I did think the wines were at least equal to most other VA vineyards. Kudos for growing the Cab; the 2011 was pretty good, despite it not being a great year. But the 2012 was even better. I also liked the Chardonnay and the blueberry wine; if I wasn't in a rush I would have stayed for a glass and enjoyed the weather. read more

My friends and I are visiting town, and decided to try this place out. We had their wine tasting, and let me tell you.. we had such a great experience. Their ambiance, service, and wines were exceptional. The view is absolutely beautiful, and all of the wines were unique and tasted great, some of which were reserve wines. The space is an intimate setting. To add, we are all quite diverse and from NY, and the owner made us feel very welcome. He was knowledgeable in all the wines, and provided a great backstory. Wolf Gap was the second stop on my tour of wineries around Mount Jackson. I went through the entire wine tasting - and did not find that any of their whites or reds that piqued my taste buds. However, the final wine was a Blueberry wine - which I did enjoy. Enough so that I bought a bottle of it. The tasting fee here also nets you a Wolf Gap wine glass. The owner's nickname is "Wolf Gap Willie," I kind of like the name! Folks here were very friendly. And the view from the deck facing westward towards the physiographic Ridge and Valley Province of the Appalachians provides a gorgeous vista! read more

Lovely vineyard with delicious wine and stunning views. My boyfriend and I came around sunset and were the last visitors that evening, so had the deck to ourselves. We thoroughly enjoyed the wine and "Wolf Gap Willie," the owner, took time to provide suggestions and let us try out a few different types before settling on two bottles. Had an amazing tour starting from the vine thru the whole process to bottling. Then we were able to sit in a private room and taste the wines. By far some of my favs off the whole tour. I cannot recommend against visiting this establishment strongly enough. The owner was blatantly and intentionally disrespectful to two women of color in my group. It was clear he knew what he was doing by singling them out and he had no remorse -- he didn't like us and didn't want us there. Visit this vineyard at your own risk, and don't be surprised if you're similarly met with racist contempt. read more

Stop number 2 on the abbreviated wine tour, Wolf Gap was quite enjoyable. Small tasting room, but there is an additional room off to the side, an outside deck and seating below the deck. There was a group having a lively lunch on the ground level when we arrived. We normally concentrate on red wine but the heat made us appreciate the whites as well. In fact, we purchased a bottle of the 2009 Viognier/Traminette which was quite good. The owner, retired from the Air Force was assisted by his wife and they were charming. They offered a small selection of very reasonably priced snacks to accompany the wines. A little way off of the highway, but well worth the trip through some beautiful countryside. read more

My husband and I moved from Hawaii a few months ago. We have the goal to try every vineyard in Virginia before we move again. And this has been the best experience we have EVER experienced so far! My husband and I visited Wolf Gap today (9/11), we were immediately greeted by one of the sweetest workers we have ever met! If the owner sees this I'd very much love to know the employees name so we can visit this vineyard again with her there. Anyways. We went into the vineyard and chose to do the full tasting, this was 9 tastings of wine. The woman who served us took the time to sit down with each wine and tell us the history of every wine and add some small talk. She also welcomed us to stay late if we wanted to have a glass and enjoy the beautiful weather and view. Mind you she offered to stay late when it was already a few minutes to closing, just so we didn't have to rush. Overall AMAZING WINE & a BREATHTAKING VIEW! No rinsing in between, we had to hurry through tasting as the owner would not give us enough time in between; also refused to give seconds if you liked or wanted to taste more of one kind Snacks/food - we had to unwrap our own cheese and crackers as there was no extra help and the owner had to serve another group too Customer Service - horrible! will never visit again (establishment might as well hang a signboard 'for whites only') The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth that can't be rinsed off! read more

Five stars for the best wine we had in this area! The setting is only about 3 stars... you are served at the kitchen bar of the over-the-garage apartment. Though, if the weather is nice, they do have some outdoor deck seating. Their wine isn't cheap to buy, but it is very good; and they grapes they grow are unique (not ones I've seen in Napa/Sonoma). If I could give the old man working a 0 star I would. We showed up 5 girls two guys. We are two white guys. The girls were black, and brown. The old man gave us the menu, then he asked for IDs only for the black and brown women. At first we thought it was age, but they weren't sitting next to each other which we found off. He never asked for my ID or the other white male. Then my friend said "are you going to Id everyone or just us?He said "not really" and myself or the other white person of the group we then realized it was racist. Then we asked after the first pour we asked for the bill and he said "no charge, bye" In the most dismissive way. He closed the door behind him while we were already up out of our seats and down the stairs towards our car. This happened on September 6th. Don't go here. read more
