We tried them all, and he even made some mixed drink shots. This was perfect to understand what flavors go good with each drink. The best drink in the tasting was their 8 yoa bourbon, very smooth and a little sweet, great for sipping or mixing. The vodka also tasted good in drinks. This was one of the best distillery I have tried. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. The building is absolutely beautiful inside and if it's nice outside, the scenery behind the distillery is amazing with a creek running right past the back porch. The do offer charcuterie and other snacks to eat here when there are no food trucks. You are also allowed to bring your own food, which is what we did.. I can't wait to go here again when I come back next year.

Once on the compound, it was difficult to miss; large glass doors and walls with the humongous crest on the front of the building. We decided to do a walk in tasting and were lucky enough to have Jonathon be our guide to all the outstanding spirits made at the distillery. Jonathon was extremely knowledgeable about the distillery's history, products, and merch. Jonathon's passion for the distillery was continually on display, and he kept the spirits light with his unique brand of humor. Be mindful that the tasting room was packed, so I also recommend making a reservation to ensure you can enjoy the experience. The options for the tasting were the clear or amber flight options. The clear choices being some of the steeped fruit and tea liquors, served with mixers for their signature cocktails. These drinks were what the distillery was most known for. The ambers were their more recent whiskey offerings, consisting of differing ageing and steeping techniques, to create their very different spirit flavors and textures. Jonathon was able to give us the history of each spirit, as well as provide mixing options, if they were a little strong for the palette. The ambers were all unique and each provided a little something for you to think over and you tasted your way through the Murlarkey display. We really enjoyed the tasting, the whiskey, the ambience, and especially Jonathon, who made the experience totally worthwhile. We grabbed a couple bottles, some of their great Bootlegger Boys merch, and made our way to their cocktail bar, Proof to taste some more of their signature cocktails. I show up with both my classic Jeeps this time at the car show today. my elderly mom was helping me drive my other one so I could bring two cars I ask the young lady if I can park really quick to the side so I can coordinate with my mom and fill the paperwork out . Since my mom doesn't know how to park or what do at these shows and I didn't want to hold up the line as I had cars behind me and my mom. Plus I have to drive her back home so I have to park both cars myself And that asshole lady was extremely rude to me, telling me I have to hurry up and I can't park in those spots even for a min or two just to coordinate with my mom. Is that how I am gonna be treated when I ask to park there for 2 min to get out of the way of other cars ? What a fucking joke What will you have me do sit in the middle of the road ? Then we finished our tasting (3oz maximum per person per ABC), taking our cocktails out on the porch where we drank them in rocking chairs enjoying the beautiful day. One of the workers was so sweet and brought us a table and some cups of water as well. Just a really welcoming place with some history. When you're in Culpeper make sure you make this a stop.

About 30 minutes before closing, the owner's daughter refused to make us another drink, even though the distillery was still within its posted business hours. We weren't ordering food, just cocktails. There were four of us ready to order another round, so the business not only left us with a disappointing impression but also lost the sale of four additional drinks. If the posted closing time is 8:00 PM, I would expect drink service to continue until reasonably close to closing time. I asked the server about the history or what makes their whiskey different from others. The answer was "We are between a micro distillery and a large manufacturer." I was hoping for something like grandpas recipes or locally sourced grains but I got nothing. I look for places to be and enjoy a drink with friends. This is not one of those places.
