The winemaker hails from France, and it shows. I have a low bar for VA wine, but Slater Run leaps wayyy over that bar. Not only is the wine delicious, the views and ambiance are incredible, and I have yet to have a server who isn't just a really kind and fascinating person. I have yet to try a wine I don't like, but I tend to like the varieties with French grapes best. The VA grapes are still solidly good, though, because the wine maker knows how to use VA grapes. Today Michael served us, and he was in the middle of a huge rush and still kept us happy. I felt so bad for him as like six or seven parties showed up all at once but he was kind and made sure he spent time checking in with us. You should make reservations. We did not, but they were accommodating when I wanted to pick up my quarterly member's wine package and do a tasting. I would have understood had they not accommodated us, though. Previously we've had Adele serve us, and a gentleman whose name escapes me but who trains horses and told us all about fox hunting. If you go on slower days their staff are just really interesting people and if they have time and interest in talking to you--do it!

Slater Run was the perfect way to spend my birthday with friends--the wine is delicious, the views are bucolic and the staff was fantastic!

Took my wife to a nice winery. Slater Run Vineyards is off the beaten path In Upperville Ava. Positioned on a beautiful property overlooking a little pond and the vineyards. They have a nice selection of wine. We chose a tasty Merlot and lots of little snacks . Our server Michelle was very pleasant and attentive. A very nice get away for the afternoon.

We've been enjoying Slater's Run wine from their tasting room on Rt50 (next to Hunter's Head) for a few years, so we were happy that they finally built this tasting room on their vineyard nearby. We stopped in on a Sunday and did a tasting, followed by a couple of bottles and some snacks. The staff was happy we were there, even though there was no shortage of business for them. They were friendly and accommodating, as well as knowledgeable about their wine and wine in general. They offer a decent selection of treats such as cheeses, bread, olives, etc. The venue is really nicely done, except it's WAYYYYY too loud (they either need to put up signs advising others to be respectful of folks around them or put up lots of sound-absorbing material). The seating was also slightly uncomfy, as the majority of what's available in the area we sat was just hi-tops, which are far from comfy & relaxing. They do offer lots of nice seating outside and the area under the pergola would have been so much nicer if there were outside ceiling fans there, since it was hot out. But, it's clearly a work-in-progress and I'm sure it'll get better. Can't wait to return!

Visited this winery on a Friday afternoon. The tasting room is brand new and very nicely done. Lots of indoor seating as well as on the back patio and the grounds. Barring their Chardonnay, I liked almost all of their wines: The first white wine on their list is a French varietal and pretty unique. Even though I prefer red wines over white, I really liked this one. Their Cab Franc was good too. Very easygoing, light and very enjoyable on a hot day too. The First Bridge 2014 was a well rounded Bordeaux style blend, heavier on the cab franc. The Roots 2015 was also a Bordeaux style, heavier on the cab sauv with a dry finish. They need to do something about their Chardonnay. I found that it tasted almost like mineral water. The Rosé wasn't impressive either. All in all, a great experience and I would love to visit this beautiful winery again!

Stopped by on our way to Middleburg on a whim, very glad we did. Excellent wine, very well done in the Traditional French style. Beautiful outdoor setting with a simple yet modern tasting room. Definitely coming back.

Wine tasting experience.

My favorite vineyard in Virginia. The service and wines are fantastic! The indoor and outdoor space provides a relaxing and enjoyable experience. You must be over 21 to visit and pets are prohibited for those you have never been to Slater Run and haven't visited their website. Hopefully, this will prevent any misunderstandings that will prevent unnecessary poor reviews. So, I recommend give these wines a taste?

Off the beaten track and up on hilltop with beautiful views, this winery is AMAZING! Tastings are table side with knowledge staff guiding you. My favorites were the Petite Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc It is best to make a reservation. They also have a food menu. We did the 2 estate tastings, several glasses and shared a burrata. The review does not reflect the fact I did not get to try their wine, but rather the way I was treated when I attempted to plan a trip to visit the "right" way** We were driving past this spot on a nice Sunday, coming home from a family lunch, and thought why not stop in? I did not have a reservation because (as mentioned above) I wasn't aware of needing one and I wasnt sure when I would be able to stop in as I was just passing by (we live 1+ hour away). As we pulled into the long dirt road, the front gates have no clear sign that says 'By Appointment Only' - perhaps a good add before your clients drive up a steep unpaved road to just be turned away. None of the vines appeared to be in use so the drive up may be more beautiful one day when the grapes are on the vines. The parking lot is a bit cramped and full of fancy cars, giving us a taste of the type of clientele that would be inside. We came in and I inquired if I could do a wine tasting. The staff member told us we needed a reservation but that he would do his best to try to see if they had space - totally fine. My mistake again- I did not realize that this winery required reservations (no other winery I have been to in Charlottesville, Middleburg, or NOVA has done so) so my first assumption wasn't that I needed a reservation. Again, no sign at the front that says this and would have saved me time. The space was obviously gorgeous, the views spectacular and it felt very Napa and upscale. The staff member returned back and told us they couldn't accommodate us- ok, disappointing but ultimately is what it is. I asked the two staff members standing there how early they recommend making reservations, as we dont live in the area so I need to plan ahead. They told me it was hard to tell but that basically any time it's warm, it will be hard to get a reservation and that "Saturday visits are a pipe dream" and Sundays are "pretty impossible too". They then kindly told me "you could try to snag a reservation maybe a Thursday or Friday". Mind you, their hours are 12-5 on Thursday/Friday...I live an hour plus away, let alone with traffic. I guess my only options are to take off work to come visit as it seems there will be no chance for me to ever get a reservation for 2 on the weekends.... Needless to say, it felt like the staff really could care less for our future business and we politely left. The staff did not offer to help us book a future reservation or anything of that nature - just a snooty response that I probably shouldn't bother every attempting to return on a weekend. Hilarious enough, I decided to look up their website and low and behold - they had tasting reservations that same day at 3 PM (45 minutes after we first asked about a tasting) - no offer to us to wait or come back to return, just basically turned away. Cherry on top- they have tons of reservations open for future Saturdays and Sunday. If you don't want my business, you dont have to tell me twice. If I want to deal with pretentious folks, I'll fly to Napa and drink wine actually grown onsite.

Although the staff were friendly and helpful, their divided attention noticeably impacted the overall experience. The venue offers attractive hilltop views; however, the tasting room itself is small and felt cramped even at half capacity. The winery is family-friendly and allows children. Service was pleasant, and pricing was more reasonable than nearby options. They had one marked for families and one for adults. And it is indeed dog friendly. There was plenty of space for dogs outside with a pet station. The day we went it was very windy so we headed straight inside. The tasting area is open and they have clear covers on the openings to keep the warmth from the heaters in and all the crazy wind and cold out. We opted to do a tasting and Emma assisted us. We did the traditional tasting and were able to try three reds and three whites. It seems like there was something to everyone because folks had different favorites. Emma talked us throihh each selection and happily answered all our questions about wine. After our tasting we were hungry and decided to get two pizzas and some dips. I also tried their cider which was yummy. The pizza was good, we had the mushroom flatbread and pepperoni pizza. Both were yummy or we were really tipsy lol! The icing on top of the experience was the live music. There was a musician singing and playing the guitar that really set the mood. We sat down inside, sipper our drinks, ate our food and played games. Hope to come back with the dogs in warmer weather.
