The drive to Slater Run from Herndon was beautiful and there was almost noone there on a Monday. We ordered 2 custom wine flights to split and enjoyed our flights outside with a beautiful view. We chose the blanc de blanc, pet nat rose, petit manseng, rocketfish (orange wine), cab franc, and pit jumper. All were very good, and my favorites were the blanc de blanc and rocketfish. We decided to buy a bottle of the rocketfish since it was so unique and delicious (we envision pairing this with swordfish as a treat). We unfortunately noticed on our way out that previous vintages of rocketfish were on sale that we may have gambled on (though the current vintage was made differently). Customer service was top notch; the tasting associate was knowledgeable and gave us a bonus pour of the chardonnay to try when we expressed interest. The bathrooms were also very clean. I definitely see us coming back here to try new wines, either in the summer for the beautiful views or in the winter to hopefully grab a chair by the fire.

As others have noted - they store the wines in these foil pouches. Most of the wines I tasted were "fruit" wines - not traditional wines made from grapes. The building is rather large but the tasting room area is confined to a smaller section in the back that makes it cozy and inviting with the back wall being all glass to take advantage of the view. The inside is nicely updated and clean. The wines are above average for the area. We really liked the Merlot and the Pinot Gris. They have quite a few options although many of them are by the bottle only. We did not try any of the food offerings because we brought our own food so can't comment on that. Only 21+, no kids allowed…read more My husband and I came here at 4pm on a Saturday for our third stop of the day, and there were no cars in either parking lot, which made us uncertain it was open, but we entered the lower level of the barn for the tasting room. The driveway and parking lots are gravel. I recommend parking at the first lot for the tasting room. I didn't see the upper level of the barn during my visit. I ordered a flight of 4 wines for $17 from the menu. I like that I can customize my selections from a list of whites/reds, instead of a flight of all whites or all reds. There are tables and chairs indoors, and they do have tables and chairs outdoors as well. The outdoor view is simple, nothing special. 3 more couples arrived after we sat down to enjoy our flight, so it was not completely empty, but it felt quiet. We weren't hungry, so we didn't order pizza, which they do offer, so I cannot comment on the pizza. See attached pizza menu.

We visited the winery on Valentine's Day, which fell on a Saturday this year. We had made a…read morereservation in advance and arrived a bit early, but were seated right away. Tables are reserved for 2.5 hours, so I assume the party before us didn't use their full time. We ordered an appetizer and a bottle of wine. The brie cake was delicious--even for someone who doesn't usually like goat cheese (it was layered in)--but unfortunately, no one in our group enjoyed the cheesecake. The winery is both dog- and kid-friendly. All the parents we encountered kept their children supervised, which is a winery rule and one I really appreciate now that we have kids ourselves. Most of the dogs were also very well behaved, though one was repeatedly growling at passing dogs, which was off-putting. While the winery can't control every patron, we choose to leave our dog at home when she's not in a social mood, and it would be nice if all dog owners did the same.

We chose Barrel Oak Winery to celebrate my 50th birthday because of the positive experiences we'd had there before. We traveled across the country to gather family and friends, trusting the venue to host a fun and relaxed evening. Unfortunately, on a 105-degree July day with intense humidity, the Overlook event space had no functioning air conditioning. While no one can control the weather, the conditions inside the venue--and the response to them--were the responsibility of the venue. The staff on site were gracious and did what they could, and we made the best of the evening under the circumstances. But after nearly three hours in extreme heat--and after nearly half our guests had already left--we were ready to call the evening a loss, when we were moved into the Tasting Room. By then, the celebration we had planned had already been materially compromised. What was most disappointing, however, was the lack of proactive management of the situation or thoughtful response afterward. Rather than acknowledging the significance of what occurred, I was left with the impression that it was viewed as an inconvenience rather than the significant disruption it was. If you're considering Barrel Oak for a wedding, milestone celebration, or any event you wish to enjoy, I hope you'll ask the questions we thought were too basic to ask. And if something isn't right, don't be afraid to insist on a solution in real time. We trusted the venue to do that for us, and by the time it happened, it was too late.

We really liked the wine and ended up purchasing a few bottles, the Cabernet Sauvignon and La Rose, both of which were excellent. The winery itself is fairly new, but it clearly has great potential and is already off to a strong start. The tasting room is set in a converted barn and you can still see remnants of its past. It adds a lot of charm and character to the space, making it feel both comfortable and welcoming. While we didn't sit outside, the view from the property is nice and would make for a relaxing spot to enjoy a glass. Overall, I highly recommend stopping here. The wine is great and the atmosphere is warm and inviting..

Farm de Vine only recently opened, and they are off to a good start. They grow their own grapes for…read moretheir wines, and their first offering earned a silver commendation from Loudoun County. Their vineyard varieties are still limited--cab sauv grapes to make cab sauv wine and rosé. They also offer wines from Forever Winery, which recently closed. We had a glass of cab sauv, and for a new winery, it was remarkably good. My husband also had a Merlot from Forever Winery, which was also well done. The location, while not the easiest drive (down a dirt road), pays off with a lovely view. The ambience was lovely, and the owner was quite friendly. I highly recommend it as a new place to try and for regular visits. If they keep on the same trajectory as their excellent start, they should become known as a place for good wine, good views, and good company in a relaxing environment. You will want to bring your own food, though, since food offerings are quite limited. I expect as they grow, that will expand, but in the meantime, bring a picnic basket and enjoy your visit.

But we decided to give it a try anyway, and were glad we did. We ended up having the whole tasting room to ourselves, and the sommelier was very friendly and knowledgeable. (Also the sign on the window just hadn't been flipped!) Corcoran seems to specialize in ciders more than wines. We went with a flight of the ciders- some of the flavors were a little odd tasting especially the Knot Head . The Sinful is one of my favorites though, having had it at 1836 before. The overall selection is pretty small so there isn't much to come back for unless you want to purchase more of their options.

It's been on my "to try" list for a long time!…read more I started off with tasting all of their hard ciders: "Popo Peach" Hard Cider (6.0% ABV) "Hop & Pop" Hard Cider (5.5% ABV) "Knot Head" Hard Cider (6.0% ABV) "Sinful" Hard Cider (6.0% ABV) I enjoyed all of them! Then on to the wines. I tasted about half of what was available that day: April Wine 2012 Chardonnay 2011 Seyval Blanc 2011 Cabernet Franc 2009 Cabernet Franc 2012 Pinot Noir I was not impressed with any of the wines I tried - which was disappointing.
