I had an excellent visit to 8 Chains today. I was their first customer arriving at 1230 shortly after they opened. I was immediately greeted by the 2 staff working (Juliette and Kat) and given their menu. I showed them my Guide to Imbibe book and then we proceeded to have a conversation of other wineries nearby that I should visit. I opted for the flight board of 4 wines. The pours were great for sampling and I decided to add some salted caramel chocolate with it. The chocolates were yummy! They have plenty of seating indoors and out with a beautiful view of the winery as well. They also have a separate dog park area where dogs can play freely. They stamped my book but I didnt do the tasting, just got a flight so hopefully they honor it when I come back! I really enjoyed my first visit to 8 Chains and look forward to coming back. read more

Delicious winery and brewery! The service was top notch by the owner and we learned so much by doing a tasting. They have ample seating inside, outside (covered & uncovered), and balcony seating with stunning views of the vineyards. We enjoyed a Friday there and they had a bottle & board special. We got 4 of their bruschettas - salmon, prosciutto, apple, & salami - all excellent options. Dog friendly with an off-leash dog area. We've been to 8 Chains North two weekends in a row. We love it. Such an appealing ambiance - and they have a great staff. The LoCo Vino White is fantastic. You are able to bring in your own food which is really nice. They also have food for sale, both prepared and in a fridge. We had the white pizza, which was delicious, and the bruschetta board, and enjoyed them both. There is plenty of seating inside and outside (covered and uncovered) with couches in addition to tables and chairs. I cannot say enough good things about 8 Chains North. The fact it's only a 4.1 as I write this is disappointing. The tasting experience we had was delightful. The staff was impressive in their wine knowledge, personable, and frankly hilarious. The wine was delicious, I especially liked the Tannat and the Lo Co white blend (the one with Chardonnay). The view is of the vineyard, and the patio was lovely along with some snacks we brought with us. Only go here if you like being around dogs in close quarters, some of which may repeat may be agreessive making for an uncomfortable environment for some people. They allow dogs in the tasting room as well as outside where they have a lovely fenced in dog play area. I will not be returning, as I prefer a more peaceful, and safe indoor setting when I go to a winery. They do have friendly outgoing staff members, and good wines. read more

The George Mason alumni association held an event there that my wife and I attended. We got a tour of their vineyards and production area by the owner, and got a tasting of 7 of their wines, including a sneak peak of a 2023 cab sauv (I would have bought a couple Of bottles had it been available).He had lots of good information (as you would expect) and was very cordial. The winery itself is cute with some good wines, including one made with grapes from Washington state. Wish we could have stayed and enjoyed the ambiance, but had to go. We enjoyed our time there and might suggest offering a discount since we were part of a group. Took home two bottles anyway. Located just outside Purcellville, this small winery offers some very drinkable wines with a family and dog friendIy atmosphere. There's ample seating both indoors and out on the covered terrace, where you also have a view of the vineyard. There's even a separate fenced area outdoors where your dogs can make some new pooch pals. Dogs are welcome inside the tasting room as well. There's live entertainment most weekends and a fireplace to curl up next to on chilly days. Basic nibbles including salamis, crackers and cheese are available for purchase. We randomly ended up here on our way from Sunset Hills to 3 Creeks. We saw a sign for 8 Chains North Winery and had never been, and in the spirit of a Friday with no work and no kids decided why not check it out? We're so glad we stopped by, what a hidden gem! We did the tasting (flights are also available) and really enjoyed the Merlot! The cabs were also solid. We enjoyed chatting with the knowledgeable, friendly pourers, and they also gave us bonus pours of both sparklings (which were delightful, I could see myself purchasing someday), Albariño, and Temperanillo. My friends and I had a lovely time at 8 Chains North! Great ambiance for a cold, winter day. Staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed two flights (whites and reds) that we were able to share among the 4 of us. It was a great way for us to decide on which bottles to buy. Their food menu was a pleasant surprise. Between the pretty charcuterie board and the variety of bruschetta, we were more than covered. We were also able to bring our own desserts so that was nice. We saw many people with dogs too. We tried two different wines, the Mourvèdre, which is a red wine and a table white wine. We enjoyed it and this winery has a spacious and comfortable feeling. What a gem of a place. Out of the numerous local wineries, they manage to stand out with a unique product and experience they offer: Wines are based on local vineyards but also sourced from out of states to create different types not found in the local establishments. They have wine and chocolate pairings and regularly host special events. The winery is gorgeous inside, the fireplace was on and it was very pleasant to sit in front of the warm fire. What a super cute vineyard! Everyone was very nice and hospitable while we were here too! We loved the couches and comfy seating by the windows and the high top seating in the back of the tasting room by the adorable fireplace. We came in late September and they had the whole place decorated for fall, super cute. After we cooled down a bit we headed outside on their patio which had nice covered and uncovered seating overlooking the vineyard, as well as a dog park area. We enjoy 8 Chains wines from local grapes, especially the Furnace Mountain Red, which is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Petit Verdot. Nice complex red table wine. Pairs with red meat or good on its own. Their wines sourced from grapes grown elsewhere are all over the map. Some are great and others not so much. The tasting room is not large and can get over run if a bus load shows. They are pro-dog which I'm good with, but if that's not your thing be forewarned. If you are in the area I would certainly recommend a visit. read more

Visited 8 Chains Winery for the first time a few weekends ago... 8 Chains has been on my "to visit" list for some time - and so I finally made it. The lady who conducted my tasting was very friendly and interactive. While I was there, another customer was in the winery with what I believe is a "Bernese Mountain Dog" - which is a huge, massive fur ball of a dog. Next thing I know, I feel something nuzzling my leg - and the dog is over inviting me to pet him. Which of course I did. I asked his owner - a very nice lady - how he deals with hot weather? She replied during the summer time he does not want to go out and wants to bask in the air conditioning. This was my last winery on a trip to see three different ones a few weeks ago. The day we went was a little different as it was December and raining out (although arguably I have to say it was the perfect way to go winery hoping). We did a chocolate and wine tasting which I really enjoyed. I actually ended up buying several wines here. The woman helping us with the tasting was absolutely amazing. Warning, long review, read at your own risk! Lol! "WINE! Because these problems aren't going to forget themselves! " My wine adventure took my 5 beautiful friends and I to 8 Chains North Winery. I chose this winery because of the self guided wine tasting with chocolate pairing, live music and allowing you to bring your foods. I knew it was going to be a hot Sunday so I made sure they had indoors tables just in case we starting to melt, as my girlfriend Rhonda kept telling me chocolate melt, lol!! Reservations are required and can be done online for free, you can choose indoors or outdoors seating. Masks are required inside the winery, the employees were wearing masks . Tables were 6ft from apart. You definitely don't need to get up as Mike, Kyle and a lady that I forgot her name did a wonderful job checking on tables . The bathroom were clean, wiping down often and cleaning as a party leave. They allowed dogs,and have a dog park as well! Kids allowed as well . My reservation was at 2:45pm, we arrived around 2:30 pm and were the first one for the time slot so we got to pick a great table outside. Two time slots, 11:30am -2:30. And 2:45pm -5:45pm . We decided to bring our own charcuterie box as we like to eat while drinking lol.. The whole table decided to do the self guided wine tasting with chocolate pairing which is only $15, very affordable and we get 6 wines (mix of white and red) . Three delicious chocolate that go with 3 different wines. The table unanimously loved the Loco Vino and the Syrah. We all decided to get two bottles of Brut Rose, a bottle of loco Vino, a bottle of Syrah and a bottle of Tempranillo . My girlfriend Rhonda first time visiting a winery since moving into the DMV was a success!!I want to thank the staff, Mike, Kyle , Kelly and two other staffs that I forgot their names for going above and beyond for making our table feel welcome , being very attentive , funny with their jokes , and offering us to take pictures in the grapevines. Kyle let us know which grapes were used for which wines and gave us a little history of the winery that will be turning 10 next month. We did stayed till closing and my gfs didn't want to leave as we were having a great time lol .We appreciated the staff and showed them with tips The cherry on top for our wonderful day was Brian, the musician that was surprisingly playing some music such as John legend, TLC, Seal, Fetty Wap with his own touch!! Since it was a week day we were allowed to bring in food, although the food they have to offer on the weekends looks great! They have a nice display of chocolates from Conche in Leesburg. Tough one to rate. To quote another location, wine isn't made in ugly places, and the view of the horse farm next door demonstrates this. I also appreciate the chocolate pairing option (which I've done in the past) and that they are very dog friendly - including an outdoor area where doggies can run unleashed. Out of my tasting I only found one I especially liked, but I didn't dislike any either. At 4,000 cases/year & 22 acres of vines, 8 Chains is a bigger operation than many neighbors, but not by a whole lot. They get grapes from Washington State (those wines are labeled as 8 Chains West), but I think most are VA grown. But on the plus side, they have a Tempranillo (not sure what state), which you don't normally see. I suspect a lot of the best wines they have are for club members; I saw a few yummy looking labels but I couldn't get a taste of them. But I did like the Chardonnay, which had a great nose, and really liked the Merlot, which was earthy and had a great cherry finish. read more

Despite only liking one of the wines, I appreciated the very laid back atmosphere and the comfortable couches we could sit in while we enjoyed the view. This place is great. The wife and I stopped and had a bottle of their LoCo Vino. Very light, refreshing white wine. You can bring you're own picnic lunch as well. We enjoyed our lunch on the back patio area (see picture of the marvelous view). They also had live music, which was a nice touch. Clean bathrooms, ample parking, and friendly staff rounded out the experience. There are two reasons I did not give it a 5 star. The table we sat at was wobbly. Placing our glasses and wine bottle on the table proved to be a risky, yet manageable proposition. Tables were fairly close together as well.
