Wine tasting, white cheddar & pita crackers (for purchase)

It was an unexpected delight to stumble upon this little gem outside Waterford. Great atmosphere, with the acres of vines immediately outside. Wonderful customer service, with the staff being very friendly, and one of the owners taking time to say hello to the visiting guests at the tasting bar. Would recommend adding this to your next wine day, it's worth a stop! Excited to see how the wines continue to evolve & age overtime. Will be back!

Went here on Mother's Day, our server Vonda was wonderful. The owners Mike and Gerry were socializing with all of their guests and we had a wonderful time. Mike is a scientist by trade, so his wines are technically very good. He is also something of an artist and it has made his wines really special. I have been to many of the larger and more established wineries, and I have yet to find a better tasting. They serve a Rosé, Vidal Blanc, Chardonnay, Chamboursin, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc (I have them down because Gerry convinced me to help her as a server once in awhile). All of them are excellent. A few other wines are available, a late harvest Vidal Blanc that is a very nice dessert wine. Finally their crown jewel is the Petit Verdot, this wine won a Gold Medal in the 2021 Virginia Governor's Cup and was included in the 2021 Governor's Case meaning it was one of the top 12 wines in Virginia. This wine is only available in the tasting room by the bottle. I highly recommend this place, they have an air conditioned tasting room, a 3 season porch, a pergola, and picnic tables and chairs on the grass. They welcome dogs and children accompanied by adults, and encourage people to bring a picnic and hang out for the day. COVID restrictions our over, as everywhere in VA you should wear a mask if not fully vaccinated everyone else may go mask-less.

    Celebrating our anniversary.

I opted to sit at the bar and was given the flight options. I ordered a flight and a charcuterie board. The board was listed for 3-4 people but I would suggest 1-2 especially if your hungry. The indoor seating is quaint and in a small building. They also have a huge outdoor space and patio both with seating. We were joined about another guest and had great conversation. I also learned about some of the special events they have. Looking forward to returning when I am back in the area.

There was some great live music playing too which gave it a nice atmosphere without being too loud to hear yourself. We went for a flight of reds to try, along with a cheese board. The cheese board was actually great, Alotta Burrata was the apt name for it with a large amount of Burrata cheese and a great selection of pairings. I wish the wine had been as good, but all three options were pretty mid range and none stood out at all. The Chambourcin and Cabernet Franc were fine, but the Petit Verdot was almost sour tasting. A beautiful setting with good food but the wine just didn't live up to expectations.

I love being able to experience Virginia wines while living in a different state and I love having my membership benefits when I do visit the area. The staff at Sunset Hills vineyard has always been welcoming, knowledgeable and hospitable. In addition, they are great with managing my shipments and account from afar and they make it easy to customize a shipment if you prefer different wines than they are offering. Their food service is great for pairing, I absolutely love their ciabatta bread and warm cheese spread with honey. My favorite thing to do is stop in, taste what is new and share a bottle and some snacks with friends while enjoying the views. Whether I am enjoying live music inside in the winter months or sitting on the deck or outdoor covered area in the summer months, Sunstet Hills Vinyard is my happy place to unwind.

It's also dog friendly which is a plus as I was able to bring my dog to join us outside. We ordered a bottle of their Riesling and some ciabatta bread with cheese that came in a tub. The ciabatta was nice and fresh and the spread wasn't too bad either. It was good to have that as a snack while sipping on our wine. We ended up getting a bottle to go as well since I enjoyed the wine. Lovely place for some good views and wine!
