He explained about his acreage and the grapes he was growing. Then we got to taste his wines. We had six scheduled but got two bonus wines. He and his wife are turning out some excellent wines! We got to taste the just bottled Tannat which was excellent. He had a Prosecco style sparkler that was excellent. His other wines were all great with the exception of Viognier. I'm not a fan of Viognier and I didn't like this one either. If you're in the area stop in!

The driveway and parking lots are gravel. I recommend parking at the first lot for the tasting room. I didn't see the upper level of the barn during my visit. I ordered a flight of 4 wines for $17 from the menu. I like that I can customize my selections from a list of whites/reds, instead of a flight of all whites or all reds. There are tables and chairs indoors, and they do have tables and chairs outdoors as well. The outdoor view is simple, nothing special. 3 more couples arrived after we sat down to enjoy our flight, so it was not completely empty, but it felt quiet. We weren't hungry, so we didn't order pizza, which they do offer, so I cannot comment on the pizza. See attached pizza menu.

She was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the wines without ever making us feel like we needed a sommelier certification to enjoy them. She guided us through the $20 tasting, which included a wonderful mix of whites and reds. It worked out perfectly because I'm a white wine fan while my husband prefers reds, so naturally we shared every pour and declared ourselves a two-person tasting committee. Now let's talk about the food. The truffle popcorn should probably come with a warning label because it is highly addictive. We kept saying "just one more handful" until the bowl mysteriously emptied itself. The fresh baguette with pimento dip was equally delicious and paired beautifully with the wines. The winery offers plenty of seating options, whether you prefer lounging on the grass, relaxing indoors, or enjoying the covered patio. We chose the covered patio, which provided the perfect balance of fresh air, vineyard views, and shade. And yes, I'm actually going to mention the bathrooms. They were some of the nicest winery restrooms I've encountered--modern, spotless, stylish, and clearly well-maintained. It's one of those little details that says a lot about the overall experience. The drive to Slater Run from Herndon was beautiful and there was almost noone there on a Monday. We ordered 2 custom wine flights to split and enjoyed our flights outside with a beautiful view. We chose the blanc de blanc, pet nat rose, petit manseng, rocketfish (orange wine), cab franc, and pit jumper. All were very good, and my favorites were the blanc de blanc and rocketfish. We decided to buy a bottle of the rocketfish since it was so unique and delicious (we envision pairing this with swordfish as a treat). We unfortunately noticed on our way out that previous vintages of rocketfish were on sale that we may have gambled on (though the current vintage was made differently). Customer service was top notch; the tasting associate was knowledgeable and gave us a bonus pour of the chardonnay to try when we expressed interest. The bathrooms were also very clean. I definitely see us coming back here to try new wines, either in the summer for the beautiful views or in the winter to hopefully grab a chair by the fire.

My friends and I ordered the smoked salmon and cheese tray with a warm baguette and fig spread. Everything tasted good, but the one thing that was a little unpleasant for me was the presentation. We literally had to open the smoked salmon ourselves, and the spread was still in its original container. The oil and fig spread were served in cute little jars, so I feel like the presentation could have been more consistent. This might not be a big deal to everyone, but presentation matters to me, especially because I've visited other wineries where the cheese boards were beautifully presented. Anywho, everything still tasted good! The service was good. They didn't offer a wine tasting tour, but the young lady assisting us gave my friends some great wine recommendations. The vineyard itself is beautiful, both inside and outside. We didn't sit outdoors because they had a cat out there. (And y'all know I'm scared of cats!) The cat didn't bother anyone, though, and seemed to just be minding its business. Overall, for the price, it was a cool winery to visit. I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're looking for a relaxed winery experience with beautiful surroundings and some good food options.

The inside is nicely updated and clean. The wines are above average for the area. We really liked the Merlot and the Pinot Gris. They have quite a few options although many of them are by the bottle only. We did not try any of the food offerings because we brought our own food so can't comment on that. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!
