Otium Cellars is a gem worth the drive from DC. We visited on a rainy day so we missed out on what…read morelooked like a vast and gorgeous outdoor space. However the tasting room more than made up for it. Cozy, charming and good people watching. In the winter there appears to be cute little wood burning stove inside. I saw that they used Real Solo stoves burning actual wood. Not some sad propane fire pit -- actual crackling fires. That kind of detail tells you everything about how this place operates. I love a good camp fire! The wines were genuinely good, and the staff made the experience even better. Super helpful with recommendations and clearly know their stuff when it comes to guiding you through the selections. There is pizza. It's available, but it didn't really deliver on quality -- stick to what they do best, which is the wine. If you are not in the tasting room, you can bring your own food. We LOVED the cats that casually wandered (snuck) into the tasting room like they lived in the place. They were super friendly and would walk past. On a clear day I imagine the outdoor space with those views and a real wood fire is pretty unbeatable. We'll definitely be back when the weather cooperates.

Even though I no longer live in the area, Sunset Hills Vinyard is the one winery in the area that I…read moremaintain my membership to. I love being able to experience Virginia wines while living in a different state and I love having my membership benefits when I do visit the area. The staff at Sunset Hills vineyard has always been welcoming, knowledgeable and hospitable. In addition, they are great with managing my shipments and account from afar and they make it easy to customize a shipment if you prefer different wines than they are offering. Their food service is great for pairing, I absolutely love their ciabatta bread and warm cheese spread with honey. My favorite thing to do is stop in, taste what is new and share a bottle and some snacks with friends while enjoying the views. Whether I am enjoying live music inside in the winter months or sitting on the deck or outdoor covered area in the summer months, Sunstet Hills Vinyard is my happy place to unwind.

Such a beautiful vineyard in Loudoun County. Lots of seating available outside for our fall winery…read moreday over the weekend. It's also dog friendly which is a plus as I was able to bring my dog to join us outside. We ordered a bottle of their Riesling and some ciabatta bread with cheese that came in a tub. The ciabatta was nice and fresh and the spread wasn't too bad either. It was good to have that as a snack while sipping on our wine. We ended up getting a bottle to go as well since I enjoyed the wine. Lovely place for some good views and wine!

I think Stone Tower Winery is the best winery I have ever been to. I wish I would have taken more…read morephotos but I was trying to really experience the moment. The scenic view when arriving to the winery is beautiful. I love Virginia for all of the land and the views. Once we arrived at the winery we were taken back by how spacious the winery was and the fantastic views they offered. They had acreage on top acreage for the winery which included the land for harvesting the grapes. It was a really nice weekend to experience the views. We met some friends there who already purchased a bottle of wine. So I tried their Riesling which I really enjoyed. I typically hate Riesling but their version was not too tart and a little sweet so I really enjoyed it. We enjoyed it so much that we bought another bottle for ourselves. At the winery they also offer food and cheese trays for purchase. Not sure if they have a full kitchen. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I wanted to do a tasting but we did not have enough time. But the tasting was $25 for 5 wines. A little expensive but totally worth it. I will be back again very soon. If you are in the Leesburg area I really suggests you check them out. Cheers!

**Dogs are welcome at Stone Tower, babies are not**…read more We drove about 45 minutes from DC to join a friend's 40th birthday celebration at Stone Tower. She had reserved a table in the Tower View area. When we arrived with our 10-month-old, the host, Jim, told us that section is 21 and over. His only option was for me to take my son to a separate area called The Barn, alone and away from the party. The rule itself isn't the issue. Stone Tower decides who it welcomes in that space, and it has decided a dog is a better guest than a baby. Plenty of people are afraid of dogs, allergic to them, or don't want one begging at their table while they eat. Yet a baby in a stroller, who can't even walk yet, is treated as the bigger disruption. The dogs stayed with their owners, and my son and I were sent somewhere else. In our experience, babies under a year old are welcome at most vineyards, so this came as a real surprise. Being separated from the group defeated the purpose of coming. Instead of celebrating our friend, we said a quick hello and drove home. It's hard enough being a parent today. Being humiliated and insulted for bringing a baby to a wine tasting, while animals are welcomed, is infuriating. If you're a family with young kids, know that here, your dog is more welcome than your child.
