The River Grill is excellent. We had the Poke appetizer, and having had fresh Poke in Hawaii I wasn't to sure but what a dish. Hawaii watch out, this place matches up to your best. The Aligator Poorboy was my main course, and Louisiana better watch out, this sandwich was perfect and tender. No chewy gator here. Overall you will love this place. Cold beer too. read more

In the area for Biketoberfest and in need of food and drink and this place looked lovely. Lunch was fabulous. We shared the Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese salad and the Florida Reuben (grilled fish version). The two choices complemented each other well. Happy hour starts at noon on the weekend too. Outdoor seating on the deck riverside will be nice when the weather cools down. Will definitely be back when in the area again. read more

Great location and nice ambience. We went on the first day they were opened after Hurricane Matthew. I had the stuffed flounder, red beans and rice , and coleslaw. Very tasty. I really liked the hush puppies. Wait staff were very attentive and got everyone's order correctly. read more

Heading south towards Daytona area, lucked upon this place. A spacious dining area with loads of fishing and other antique stuff (probably all reproductions) somewhat clutter the place. Wait staff was really nice and helpful. Menu has mostly mainstream dishes but I had tuna tacos. They were excellent. Tuna was really fresh, well stuffed and tasty with a cabbage slaw. Had also a side of dirty rice that was just right. The salmon from the wood grill was nicely prepared along with some veggie sides. Will come back here just to enjoy the fish tacos again. read more

Excellent service, excellent food, excellent atmosphere, and excellent drinks! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner tonight at the River Grille. Our server greeted us right away and took our drink and appetizer order. We had the house margaritas which were $3.50 today and For an appetizer we ordered hush puppies which came with a remoulade sauce that was delicious! I ordered the gator Po Boy which was the most tender and flavor I've had and my husband ordered the stuffed flounder and he really enjoyed it. We definitely will be back and highly recommend! What a great experience! We were greated by a bright, courteous staff. Our waitress Tori was fun and we never had an empty cup! The food was fantastic! Mother's Day, a pleasant event wasn't so pleasant today. We get to the restaurant, stand in line with our double amputee mom for 30 minutes in the heat. The restaurant opens, we wait another 15 minutes to get to the area to be seated to be given a beeper, and told we have to wait for the people with reservations to be seated first. After 10 minutes of waiting, people who were in line after us with beepers were seated ahead of us. I would think that if you have people with reservations, you should know what unreserved seating you have left, and if you are going to seat people with beepers do so in the order given for seating. Needless to say, a very disappointing experience. read more

Got dinner here last night with my family. The menu has changed, which was a shock, change is good but took a couple of key items off that they were known for like the captain frank platter, they are also doing away with the mussels. I also got the Seminole boil which is not worth the money. I will not go back. read more

The food was absolutely amazing!!! Taylor was our server and she was great especially being Valentine's Day! We had two apps, the calamari and tuna poke. Both were soooo amazing yum!! Then we got the 1# Maine lobster and the grilled chicken pasta. I was so full but couldn't stop eating because it was all so amazing. The hubby and I both had a few drinks and they were very good too. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The happy hour is pretty nice too, wish it was until 8! Will be back very soon. read more

DOUBLE WHAMMY - MANAGEMENT DID NOT REPLY TO MY COMPLAINT - APPARENTLY THEY DON'T CARE!!! USED TO BE ON THE "TO DO" LIST. Stopped in on 11/11/19 around 3:30 to grab a bite as we had been shopping in Winter Park, and decided to go out of our way to go to River Grille, one of our (used to be) favorite places... We sat on the deck, and other than my friend and I, there was a party of 8 that had been there for a while and being attended to by different server. Our server was HORRIBLE. Every time we asked for something was met with the reply "we don't have that". Even the "soup of the day"... excuse me, what is the soup of the day? "We don't have that...." my friend ordered a margarita, which came with less alcohol than a virgin margarita, and a fish dinner. I ordered the grouper dinner. When we got the food, the fries weren't even barely warm, and the server brought me the wrong dish (a Reuben sandwich). She walked away without asking if we needed anything (she forgot our requested condiments), and my dish was completely wrong. I finally flagged down a different waiter to go get OUR server. I told her she didn't bring what I ordered, and that the fries on both plates were cold. She took my plate away and said "your order will only take a few minutes", and left. A different server finally brought the condiments we requested, but the meal I ordered never materialized. After 20 min, I went to the front counter and told them to forget it, my friend had already FINISHED her meal and we were leaving. About 5 minutes later, the girl finally returned WITH MY MEAL IN A TAKE OUT CONTAINER. I told her to TAKE THE MEAL OFF OUR BILL, WE WOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR IT. She finally came back with a revised bill. We paid and left NO TIP. I registered a compliant with the management on their website, and got NO REPLY WHAT SO EVER FROM THE RESTAURANT. SAVE YOUR MONEY, GO SOMEPLACE WHERE CUSTOMERS MEAN SOMETHING TO THE RESTAURANT!!!! read more

Every time we have gone (lured by decent location on the water) the service has been ridiculously slow and the food isn't that good to make up for it. It's been at least 5 times we have gone (since friends sucker us) and seriously I don't think we can ever go back. I can't believe management has not addressed how slow the food comes out by now. Four of us just ate a late lunch there today. Got there around 2 pm or a little before. Three were on 1 check and I had a separate check. Overall it was ok. I ordered the oyster dinner and I have had much better. My friends had sandwiches and they seemed to like them. Service was good until the very end. We paid by credit card. Mine was 23.42 and theirs was 35 and change. We opted to leave a cash tip instead of putting it on the cards. Apparently the waitress didn't see it on the clipboard she gave us and as she turned away she looked at the credit receipts and muttered "Oh no tip". I heard her and called down to that we actually left her a cash tip of 12.00. So she immediately looked to make sure it was there and muttered something to acknowledge it. I was a waitress for 25 years or so before I became a nurse and NEVER spoke like that in a customer's hearing. Not sure I will go back to this restaurant but if I do I would refuse her as a server. I don't even think she offered her name but I will definitely remember her face. read more

The bar is amazing as well as the bartenders. Nice atmosphere. Though the food is overpriced and certainly not as good for what you pay. But the bar is worth it. The best bartender there is Britney and Genie. So make sure you tip accordingly and generously. It'll make up for them having to deal with their bosses. read more

Ate here the other night with my mother and wife. This place is a bit pricey but the service was excellent and the food was pretty good. Had the gator tail appetizer, it came with some kind of sauce that was pretty good. Also had the conch chowder and then the pasta which had muscles, shrimp, and scallops. The wife had the clam chowder and a fish dish. My mother had the flounder dish that was on special. It all seemed to be pretty good and everyone enjoyed their meal. I think I will reserve this place for a special occasion next time due to the price but I would definitely come back. read more

Awesome place! We had a group of 8 and we were still seated right away. The appetizers came out immediately and the food was out not too long after. The staff was friendly and checked in often, and there's also a really pretty view if you're sitting outside or just want to go walk down to the docks. This restaurant was recommended by a friend and it did NOT disappoint! My husband had the blackened grouper which came with pinto bean succotash (whaaat?!) and cheese grits. Wow! Generous portions, a huge piece of grouper and the succotash and cheese grits were life-changing! I had a fried combo of scallops (huge!) shrimp, and a piece of fish so delicately and perfectly fried. Not greasy at all. The hush puppies...decadent! The smoked fish dip appetizer was delicious and amply portioned wit flatbread crackers! Woot, woot! The atmosphere was so pleasant and relaxing, and our server, Natalie, was a treasure with her suggestions of food, as this was our 1st time visiting. We've gone here off and on for years and hadn't been for ages when we had a sudden event that brought lots of out of town family in. River Grille accommodated us with almost no notice. The wait staff was kind and patient with our large group. The atmosphere was great, and the food (and local craft brews) was perfect. I can't recommend them enough. Don't let the location fool you, and don't think you can base your expectations on any past experience at this restaurant. Prices are outrageously high, considering that: 1) the food looks and tastes like frozen fast food; 2) the meals are served in paper-covered plastic baskets; 3) the tasteless, sauceless cole slaw is served in a tiny plastic cup; 4) I had the worst fried clams I've ever been served, and that was after I sent them back to be sufficiently cooked to be barely edible. The atmosphere is authentic "old Florida" and the outdoor seating on the Tomoka River is relaxing in the cooler months. The Cobb Salad with grilled salmon is superb. Mixed emotions on this one. 2.5 might be more like it. An awesome facility on the Tomoka River with plenty of places to check out the wildlife while eating or without eating. That is a huge plus. As for the restaurant part, they could use someone who knows how to run one. Service is chaotic, unattentive and extremely slow. The staff could use much more training and discipline. Our food was both good and bad depending on what we chose. Fish appear to be very fresh so I guess it is hard to mess up fresh fish since the fish items were pretty good. (Fish Fingers and Fried Clams). Fish tacos were so so, the fish was good but the mango salsa was more of a mango jelly. Very sweet. Had to remove this. Flour Tortillas were cold and somewhat hard. Tomato and Cucumber salad no flavor at all. Cole slaw OK. Was served almost room temperature beer after waiting almost 25 minutes for it. Probably had been sitting on the bar. We won't rush back I am sure. Prices warrant higher expectations. read more

Well, in the past u never knew. One time good another time terrible. Now I think they have finally got it figured out. I would go back every friday if I could. Steamed shrimp were great and seasoned perfectly and the view and weather was great. Fridays r now $3.00 long island ice tea's and they have gotten that one DOWN. My family went here on vacation, and I must say that this restaurant was good but not great. We were outside at sunset on the river and it was nice but there were a lot of mosquitos. Maragritas weren't very good. But, my creole style mahi dinner was very good. The hushpuppies were excellent, and we all had a good time. Prices are a little expensive and the swordfish was not very good. So, it was a bit of mixed bag, but we all had a good time. read more
