Came here upon recommendation from some frequent Florida travelers. I was hesitant at first due to the touristy vibe, however nothing but calm relaxed locals were waiting inside. The atmosphere was relaxing, we sat river side and watched the alligators swim while we devoured our tasty veggie straws. A must try. Sat at a table for 20 minutes before a server acknowledged our table of 6. Finally came by after we waved down a staff member. When they came she was In no rush and didn't even care she took forever. We ordered drinks quickly, asked questions about the menu which seemed she had to "go ask the back" for any simple thing we asked. I said does my meal have to be shrimp or I can I substitute a fish and she had no idea if they could do that... We later ordered meals which we asked for the spicy sauce on the side... We got the meal. Sauce was everywhere, we said hey we didn't order the plate like this. To which she was like, "oh yea" so the group ate as we waited for our messed up meal to get fixed and once everyone finished we got our food.. This time with no sauce. Service was good, but food was meh. Ordered gator bites, received 8 little pieces of gator on a plate. At nearly $10 for the appetizer, that's over $1 per "bite". Felt ripped off by the small portion. Sandwiches were okay. My plate came with fries which looked very measly. Most of the fries were under 2-3 inches long, kinda the bottom of the frier stuff. Fries were frozen store bought. Grilled vegetables my girlfriend got were good but we both agree that we were unimpressed with the overall meal. We both felt like the plate lacked a 3rd small item such as coleslaw on the side. Solid 2 star food. read more

This place is truly awesome. I ordered the dockside combo which is definitely enough for two people. The service was great and the food was great the drinks was great couldn't be more pleased. We even seen an alligator while we was waiting on our table. You can sit inside or outside. I will be coming back soon. read more

After waiting 45 minutes for our order, in which there were quite a few empty tables, waitress finally brought our food. Some of the orders were correct and good, some were not right and the fish and/or buns were soggy like they'd been sitting a while. I ordered red potatoes, I got fries, plus my bun was burnt black. My waitress was getting annoyed with me for being unhappy!! Imagine that. Then we heard her telling another waitress that we were a bunch of "bitches"........nice impression for my out of town family! The manager couldn't have cared less.....nice place! Laid back natural florida restaurant right on the river complete with a stuffed gator. The kids loved looking at everything and we enjoyed the outside dining. The menu has gator bites that are good and taste like salty chicken. The prices are very reasonable and the menu options offered seafood and burgers. Our server was great and so was the food. The only odd thing that happened was a snake fell out of the tree overhanging our table area. Scared my husband to death. I am still laughing. We will definitely go back. read more

Previous trips to this restaurant had been so pleasant that our expectations might have been too high. I stupidly ignored the tenant to never order beef at a seafood restaurant. I yielded to the "special" offering 10oz prime rib for a low price. Remember when your mama said "you get what you pay for?" Well, sometimes you do and sometimes you don't. My "rare" prime rib was well done. The waitress offered to take it back, but I have been down that road before. I said it was okay. My traveling buddy ordered a special fried seafood platter, 2 shrimp, 2 scallops, 2 something. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. We remembered this place as a fine seafood restaurant on the Tomoka River, but it is now just another sports bar on the river. We may or may not be back. If we return, we will leave our rose colored glasses in the car. read more

We stumbled upon this place on our trip from Orlando to Jacksonville. A Yelp rating of 4 stars lured us in and the reviews were on the money. Fun decor (think Florida gator chic combined with dock couture), indoor and outdoor seating and a menu full of seafood and good down home eats. Worth a trip although somewhat pricey. We paid $67 for two of us for drinks, appetizer, salads and dinners. read more

We were vacationing down the road and saw this restaurant on our way in. The outdoor patio looked really cool so we made a point to check it out for dinner one night. Overall we had a good time and the food was ok. We sat outside on the patio which wasn't very busy for a Saturday night. The cocktails were really sweet and watered down. The server was very matter of fact, which I actually liked. The seafood dish I got was heavy on the sauce and pasta and light on the seafood. We had a good time overall. Unfortunately after getting home I noticed red ant bites all over my feet. The other people at the table also had a few but I got the worst of it by far! read more

Great food and view. We had our dinner on the patio. They had the best fried fish and scallops. We will definitely be coming back!!!!

I'll start by saying that I absolutely love the atmosphere and view at this restaurant. Only been here once, but would love to again. When I went it was a bit ago, but I had a wonderful time. We started with the veggie tangles and I had chicken strips (because I'm boring haha) and I believe she had the steak and shrimp. Food is always excellent and the River Grille has an extensive menu. Highly recommend. SUGGESTION TO MGMT: We have on a number of occasions stopped in the bar for a relaxing drink. It become difficult to relax as the staff in the bar/lounge is very loud and verbal. Loud laughter and voice volume needs to be toned down. Thank you. read more

We ate a late dinner last night at RiverGrille at the insistence of my in-laws and my wife. The restaurant seemed pleasant from the exterior. The dining room and bar were nice. The outer deck area fronts on a river. Upon entering I immediately knew that this was a major tourist restaurant judging by the amount of restaurant t-shirts and souvenirs for sale. The varied menus features seafood but of course has chicken wings, burger and such. My wife ordered the crab stuffed flounder.entree. I ordered the full size fried seafood combo which consisted of 6 shrimp, 6 scallops 1 piece of fish 2 hush puppies and a side of coleslaw. My in laws ordered the 1/2 size each of the fried combo. My wife was very happy with her but my and my in-laws fried seafood was under cooked and the breading was falling off the fish. The scallops were also undercooked. However the shrimp were overlooked and dried out. The sides of hush puppies were very hard as if they had been sitting under the heat lamp a long time. Even thought my wife was happy with her meal, I cannot, recommend RiverGrille. If are going during the dinner rush, itmight be O.K. Since the food will not have a chance to dry out. It is a shame because I liked the looks of the place and the look of the menu. But the bottom line is they are not serving good food. Maybe because I live in New Orleans, I am spoiled on properly prepared seafood. read more

I came out to Florida for a job assignment and my coworkers told me I couldn't leave without trying their gator bites. I had never eaten alligator but I decided to give it a shot. The bites were delicious, crisp and juicy on the inside! I ate them all while gazing at the Tomoka river right before sunset. I will definitely come back! (Fyi: they do not taste like chicken! They lost our number in the reservation system.....so we waited longer than we should have ....then our waiter had several large parties so our party of 3 was basically forgotten....that is a shame though because the food was great but if you can't get a simple refill on a soft drink well ...that's a shame . read more

The River Grille on the Tomoka has large indoor and outdoor dining areas with interesting "old-Florida" décor and a great view of the river. When I visit Florida once every few years, this is one of the restaurants I try to hit. However, they do miss the mark in terms of food and wine quality. For a restaurant that specializes in seafood, there is a LOT of Tilapia on the menu ("Google" how this fish is raised!). The wine list is tiny and barely acceptable, with their best bottles being of only average quality. Fortunately, they provide corkage, at only $10. The food is generally good, and the service average. Location is everything! read more

We ate overlooking the river. Try to get there after 7 when planes are not flying out of the local airport. Planes are supposed to stay on the north side of the river however some pilots may drift south over the restaurant. The food was good- I had the seafood platter- clams were very very small, crab legs were done properly. The fish of the day was grilled Mahi that was moist and firm.( I try to avoid fried foods- to avoid frozen fish that are passed off as fresh). We would go back - location along the river makes for a pleasant dinner. read more

Great Seafood, appetizers and nice wait staff. The venue is great with different decks and dining areas and you couldn't ask for a more rounded menu. The wine list needs work but no one is perfect. This is one of those places you can escape to and just enjoy nature. read more

I live in Lakeland, though my parents live in Ormond Beach. Every time I visit I insist we go here. The fish Po Boy is simply fantastic!! I don't even really like seafood but I order the Po Boy every time, it's that good! My parents also order a chicken certain sandwich every time and I've tried that as well, it also is fantastic! Tge food is amazing, the atmosphere is amazing and I love the outside seating right on the Tomoka River. Service is a little slow, but the food makes up for it! read more

Terrible experience. First ordered soup of the day as told by the waitress was supposed to be lobster bisc and we were brought chili, then told the soup was changed from lobster bisc to chili. Then we got our mixed drinks that tasted like they had no alcohol what so ever, when the food came the Mac and cheese was over cooked and spongey the fish was awful, the chicken over cooked and the rice and beans mushy like baby food. Lastly we get our bills and all 3 bills are wrong we were charged incorrectly for our drinks, and salad. Will never go back absolutely ridiculous. read more

Was excited about going here, and did not leave disappointed. The service was great, and very efficient. The price is fair considering how much you get. The taste was awesome! We had the calamari as an appetizer, seafood Mac n cheese and the Gator Po Boy as entrees. All were delicious! Will definitely return, and would recommend others to try. Can't get any better location than right on the river. Cool kitschy Cajun decorations inside. If you can, go during oyster season (months that end in R). Awesome oysters, with Guinness on tap. My one gripe is you have to sit inside if you want full access to their beer taps. Otherwise it's Bud/Coors and such. read more

Usually like this place but thus visit was off. I had the gumbo to start. Not very good. Very salty and not a great broth to stuff ratio. Then split calamari, which was huge and cooked well, although the peppers added didn't really fit - they weren't fried as they usually are. Ordered the blackened shrimp po boy with teriyaki garlic broccoli. Po boy was fantastic - lots of shrimp blackened nicely. Shrimp were small but I prefer that on a sandwich. Veggies weren't plentiful and we're pretty sparse. Roumalade was good and not overbearing. Needed pickles for the full po boy experience but the bread was killer. So soft and tasty. Broccoli was floppy but oddly delicious. Others ordered chowder (jokes it was the consistency of oatmeal) and small portions of fish and chips (2 fish, fries, pups, and coleslaw - looked great) and the fried sampler (same as fish and chips but 1 fish, 2 shrimp, 2 scallops). Both were worth the price, especially if you aren't super hungry. Restaurant was pretty dark, but it got brighter at some point when I'm sure one of the old people complained. Our waiter was awkward and made a comment about us liking the food so much because we ate it so quickly. Like I said - awkward. Margarita was weak. I drank it in 5 min and felt nothing.
