My family and I were visiting some family in the area and they insisted on taking us to River Grille for dinner. We came in on a Sunday evening, and had a little bit of a wait, but nothing crazy, especially considering we had 9 in the party. The restaurant itself is spacious and has a nice ambiance through out. Once seated our waiter came over took our drink order and answered the few questions we had about the menu! A few things that we ordered that stuck out, the hush puppies, calamari, shrimp po boy and the seafood platter. All fresh and tasty! If you're in the area be sure to stop in and check them out! Just stopped by for a beer and appetizer. Ordered Yuengling on tap. Beer was cold. Ordered their "Gator-Bites" for an app. When they came out I was totally disappointed by the presentation. A small serving of pop corn shrimp looking things. Upon tasting them they were bland and tasteless. The dip was ok but I still couldn't get over the bites being so bland. It seems as if they coated them in a chicken type breading and fried them in the deep fryer that the oil needs to be changed. I'm sure they have other good apps but steer clear of the bites. No worth it. Also they were $14.50. I've gotten more fries at McDonalds when I ordered the small size. read more

We had a fantastic dinner at this restaurant. I highly recommend it. The service was fantastic. They had a good selection of craft beers as well as great drinks. We had the Shrimp & Grits and the Jambalaya. Both were exceptionally good. I have had shrimp & grits at other places in the Daytona area but these were by far the best. The shrimp & grits were loaded with shrimp and had a very good brown gravy over them. The grits were done to perfection. The jambalaya was just like I have had in New Orleans. It was loaded with andouille sausage, Cajun seasoned shrimp & chicken. We sat out On the deck looking out over the historic Tomoka River. The restaurant was clean including the bathrooms. Stuffed flounder would be perfect without hollandaise sauce, but also lacking in seasoning. Very little crab meat in stuffing. Flounder doesn't need a hollandaise sauce. We had 2 teens visit for spring break. At the end of the week we asked what their favorite restaurant was. River Grille was the answer!

The restaurant was busy, but we were seated quickly. We took "first available" and were seated inside instead of outside overlooking the river. Service was helpful and attentive. The crab hush puppies were the best hush puppies I've had. My daughters enjoyed the clam chowder and shrimp po'boy. The stuffed flounder was good. read more

Not one to complain, but..... Our overall experience was disappointing. Apps were slow to come to the table (Calamari was room temp). Entree timing was good but again, room temp (Mahi was not hot and very dry, undesirable. Bread from chicken sandwich was hard, dry, stale). Ordered a second glass of wine - waited at least 10 minutes before asking a staffer for assistance - our server showed up shortly after, not realizing the order had previously been placed. Mentioned concerns on service and food quality to server. She returned with the check and an apology. No manager acknowledgement. We asked for the manager, who showed up but no genuine engagement / acknowledgement. She did apologize. We were not asking for any compensatory response. The check was re-dropped with a 25% discount which is appreciated but there was no sense of ownership nor that things would be addressed/fixed. To make matters worse, upon entering the restroom, the space was dirty, and the waste receptacles were overflowing with dirty paper towels. Disappointing. read more

This is on the "must do" list when my family visits Daytona... and I didn't want to like it as much as I did. It lacks the charm of the Aunt Catfish and feels like a chain restaurant. I didn't get that special "I'm in a beach town feel..." But the food was damn good. The shrimp & grits I had... I could have eaten all day, every day. It was fantastic. The crab dip we ordered to start with - everyone at the table was fighting over. The crab cakes my niece ordered - spot on. Even the caesar salad our picky guest ordered - looked amazing. My Dad's fried fish n' chips... great. And if Daddy doesn't complain - that's a big deal. He's a tough critic (see where I get it?). And the tuna tacos... well, I live in LA so I judge a bit here... but they were pretty and my SIL loved them. And the hushpuppies... Oh have mercy. I would say this is the best food in Daytona EXCEPT... again, it feels like you're having dinner at a Houston's anywhere in the US. So for me, it's just a step behind Aunt Catfish... because it has to be about the experience too. Yes, you should put this on your list if you're visiting Daytona Beach. Yes, make a reservation. FOOD: Plain and simple, the reason for the low stars is the pricing of this place and low poor quality of the food. To get regular shrimp is $15.50 and you get 6 shrimp and 2 sides. That's a lot. Gator bites are almost $15. 2 fish tacos that aren't even big are $14, seafood Mac n Cheese is $20 and so is shrimp and grits. The prices don't match the quality of the greasy fried rubbish SERVICE: The good service got the one star. Our server was super nice and we tipped her well. AMBIANCE: Casual place on the Tomoka River. It's nice. Not crazy about a view of the bridge and noisy vehicles because the pricing here is too high for fried crappy food **Either change the food quality and make it better or lower the prices. What a beautiful spot...especially at sunset. Was seated by Kaylan and she took great care of me throughout the night. Started with a order of the onion strings...they are OK but it is so huge it's not an appetizer for one. The wedge salad was fresh and crispy...loves the hunks of blue cheese on the salad! The Mahi Mahi taco's were good but needed a little help and the cilantro sour cream wasn't cutting it. Tried the Peach Vidalia hot sauce (it's not very hot) and the flavors were awesome. I was stuffed but I saw a slice of cake go by me and it was the Florida Sunshine Cake made with orange juice. Got a slice to go and I must say...INCREDIBLE!!! read more

A work buddy turned me on to this place. I had ridden by it plenty of times but just stopped in recently. They have a magnificent facility on the river here. I was surprised at just how large the place was. It is much bigger than it appears from the road. It was a very nice day so we decided to sit outside at the bar. That gives you a nice view of the river below. Our bartender/server did a great job of taking care of us. They have a fairly large menu which should satisfy most folks. I really loved the surroundings more than the meal. I will have to try some different items next time. read more

We had a reservation for 9 at 1pm on Thanksgiving. We arrived early and enjoyed drinks on the back deck. We were seated exactly at 1 and our server was very attentive and courteous. We all chose our own Thanksgiving meal and it was all delicious. We had plenty of vegetables as well as turkey, fish, etc. I cannot say enough about our experience there and we will definitely return to the River Grille. read more

We both had to agree to give this place a 2.5 and since I can't, sadly it deserves to go down not up to 2 stars. The problem was the food and a little our waiter. My husband ordered the ribeye with red beans and rice and corn on the cob. I ordered the stuffed flounder w coleslaw and french fries because he said they had No potatoes of Any kind (!) We started off with crab dip and tortillas which was very good, although the presentation was a little "blah". I also had a pretty cocktail which was very good. Then after what seemed a longer wait than usual (20 mins) our entrees arrived and things went downhill. Starting with the ribeye, which tasted fine, but seemed pretty thin for $32. The red beans and rice were not tasty and the corn was not sweet, barely above what my husband calls "horse corn". Also it was a very short ear. My french fries were the star of my plate. The Coleslaw was okay, but the flounder was inedible. Very mushy. My husband tasted and agreed. I never send food back, well extremely rarely, and you will not find one review where I ever have. I think maybe this makes 3 times in my life and the other two were to finish cooking my steak. ;) So once the waiter came by I politely explained it was not edible and I would like something else. He starts naming all the other flounder dishes. Why would I order flounder? He also seemed to have a little attitude. I ordered crab cakes and had to slowly eat all my french fries until they arrived. They were good, but with all the dozens and dozens of seafood restaurants, this one will not get another chance. read more

We went last night around 4pm, and got seated right away at a table inside the restaurant, which turned out to be very noisy. We had an amazing server Anthony (name on receipt). Very attentive, ordered the onion strings, to our surprise included Calamari pieces. Good thing we liked Calamari. I had a regular fish sandwich was perfect for me and asked for the Brussels Sprouts, which was heavily seasoned with Black Pepper & Garlic (that was tasteless). My husband ordered the Catfish (Whole), grilled that fed my husband and daughter, because he received 2 big pieces, and it came with French Fries and Coleslaw (which was a little dry & full of Celery seed). Also his Cat fish dinner came with 2 Hush Puppies, tasted like you get anywhere, nothing special. And 2 beers at $4.50 each. A friend ordered the 3 Shrimp Taco's & French Fries which was priced separately and said it was all very good. Our daughter ordered a side salad with Blue Cheese crumbles, which she knew she would have more than plenty with the 1/2 of Catfish order. All and all it was very good and reasonably priced, for $85.00 + a tip, for the 4 of us. We will be back, except we will sit in a quieter place. PS: the bar area looked very nice. read more
