We are a 36 Year customer of the River Crab Restaurant. We have always had fabulous meals and service until today! We arrived at the restaurant at 2:30 on a Monday afternoon. We were greeted by Jacob who did a fantastic job of explaining new things on the menu. We ordered our Salad/Appetizer and entree. We received salad within a short period of time and was prepared in a excellent manner. This is where our visit went off the rails. Aprox 40 Minutes passed and still no appetizer or main meal. We went and found server and hostess to see when we might expect the rest of our meal and there response was they are a little backed up in the kitchen? I forgot to mention that there was 2 other tables occupied in restaurant. After another 5 min I found server and told him to get me my bill for Salad and that we were no longer willing to wait. At that point the only thing that was right they decided not to charge us for the salad. Very Disappointing Birthday. And then when I got home I decided to call restaurant and ask for manager. After waiting on hold for 8 min for them to find manager I decided my time was more valuable. read more

If you're going to splurge, this is the place to do it. Tonight our waitess was Regina, very good prompt service. Food is always excellent and enough to satisfy, maybe even take some home. My husband had a salad with his dinner that would have filled me up. Because I am a Landrys select club member, $25.00 was taken off my bill for my birthday and I received a complimentary creme brulee for dessert. Perks for the club membership, it's worth it. I ordered the plank salmon with veggies, it was amazing. Husband had chicken tortellini, his favorite at this particular restaurant. We were in the area for a wedding and had Sunday Brunch outside looking over the water. They have very friendly staff and an excellent Sunday Brunch. I was hoping for a fish entree from the Great Lakes, but will have to go back for dinner to get that. They had an otherwise good variety of dishes, an omelette station, fresh fruit, beef an seafood, waffles and at the end ice cream topped with Bananas Foster! Yum! And who can beat this view. Old establishment with beautiful views right on the river. We ate outside on the deck. Perfect end of summer evening. Our waitress Alexandria was awesome. Excellent and reasonably priced Bloody Mary. My husband had a delicious chocolate Manhattan. Delicious warm bread basket accompanied with whipped butter and creamed salmon spread. Salads were fresh and tasty. I love this place!!! My only issue is I don't get here more often. Just had lunch here on August 9, 2022. Ashley was our server and she was top notch and friendly, made the entire experience that much better!!! The food is GREAT and the location , of course, is the best!!! Hello, so I really do enjoy the River Crab and eat there a lot but the last 2 times and the last time being a few hours ago I have gotten food poisoning from the fish. I know it is from this place because I had ate toast this day and was waiting for a nice meal for my birthday only to receive food poising. The view on the patio is always wonderful. The food is usually good, but can be inconsistent. Today we started with the Wedge Salad which looked lovely. The dressing, however, was thin and unremarkable. The amount of bacon and blue cheese crumbles was sparse. My husband ate the Firecracker Shrimp (appetizer). He says it was good, a little sweeter than the Hot Rocks which we've had before. I had the Shrimp Scampi (extra veggies, hold the rice). I like to get right to the point, 5 stars for water views, ambiance and live piano! The food is 3-4 stars! Good quality food, what's hard is the hostess gals weren't so friendly or our waitress. They weren't rude but just doing their jobs, and polite. If I'm going to Applebees or Chili's that's something I'm unfortunately used to now a days. A spot that's doing high end food with the white tablecloth and water view sets the bar a little higher for what I'd expect for service. We had never been and our aunt & uncle have a tradition to get their anniversary dinner here, so it was a new place to try for our 11 year anniversary. Love the personal touch to print our menus with a Happy Anniversary wish! Great job to note that special occasion. The hostess got us waters and let us know our waitress would be another moment, which is all good. Never been there before and not in a rush so it gave us time to explore the menu. Our waitress I saw had a larger party so I can understand that. But when our hurried waitress came to greet us and ask about drinks or starters I made it a point to say it's our first time. I asked if she had anything she recommended and what I thought sounded good. She was helpful to let us know about the gazpacho that I saw looked good on Yelp and she confirmed it's a good one. We got the dynamite shrimp starter, the gazpacho and decided on the chef special of Parmesan crusted snapper with shrimp topped with a shrimp butter sauce that was SO good. My hubby got surf & turf with a good medium rare filet and lobster tail that had good generous meat to it. The bummer was the filet was good but seemed like meat grilled without any seasoning to bring out any flavor. The whipped potatoes with the steak were so light and whipped like cool whip almost like consistency that maybe too much milk? Nothing hearty or rich in the flavors of the potatoes. My snapper was so good but the rice with the description of flavors just tasted like rice. There weren't any added flavors popping or sparkling in the rice. Complimentary creme brûlée for our anniversary was very good. Unfortunately the waitress didn't lead into the deserts or share, a simple would you like dessert when again we don't know what's the offers of them when never being there before?! This kind of place I expect you to help me know what's your deserts, which are maybe signature or favorites? And automatically offer if you want a coffee with it?. Oh well good we know how to ask! It was a great view and beautiful evening so overall that makes up for what was lacking. I can't give it 5 and feel it's generous for 4 stars but the food was good but not 5 star for a place I think that has the potential to hit it there. The warm rolls and crackers and smoked salmon pate to start are very good by the way too! So a 4 star is in order. I'd go again but not make it one of my top spots to hurry there. read more

We were taking a day trip and River Crab is mentioned on the Pure Michigan site as a stop on a thumb tour. We stopped for brunch in the mid morning. Parking lot has a slope so just be aware- and the attire on yelp does say casual but I would have felt more comfortable in a summery dress rather than shorts once we got inside. The place was very beautiful and just had a slight air of luxury although we didn't feel out of place. The hostess was a bit short with the two ladies in front of us who had come for lunch, not brunch. Lunch doesn't start until 2pm. We were sat right away, with a beautiful view of the St. Clair River. Our server was very friendly and personable, she was able to make recommendations since it was our first time there and always stood so we were looking at her without turning back around. We tried several items from the buffet, fish, bacon, eggs benedict, waffles, potatoes, etc. The fish and eggs benedict were a little overdone, but those types of dishes don't always hold up well in a buffet serving style. Overall the food was very good. On our way out there were a few servers hanging around the hostess stand eating plates of food and being obnoxious- we assumed they might be teenagers hired for the summer... We have been here many times and have great times, we went yesterday and were very disappointed, I did not like the fact that ordinary items like mashed potatoes and rice are given fancy names..We ordered salad with plain lettuce and strawberrys, goat cheese, very expensive.. Came here for the "famous?" brunch, and came away underwhelmed. After you pass the sketchy hotel (which we stayed at, and suggest you stay somewhere else...) The restuarant is actually semi inviting with a nice view of the river and canada with an obvious warm wood and nautical decor. The staff is also very nice and seemed to want to do a good job. As with many Chuck Muer restaurants, the problem is the food, and it just seemed to lack spark or distinctiveness. The eggs were a bit overcooked, the roast beef (allthough looked tastey) was on the tough side, the lox tasted elderly, and the crab was ok, but just wanted to be fresher. It is a large amount of food for the price, but I just came away disappointed. On the positive note, the $3 bloody mary's are big, good and cheap, (Drink enough and everything else may not matter...) and the banana's foster was very good. My wife enjoyed the desert table. I would give it more stars, because the food is excellent, but twice the hostess was not. I'm handicapped so that would normally mean accommodating my lack of ability to walk by seating me accordingly. On both occasions, I (& the group I was with) were seated as far as possible from the entrance. On the second occasion, I called a 'time out' on the walking and sat us halfway. I just couldn't do it. Most of the clientele seemed to be in the 60+ age group. We had some family meet us and ask for a wine list. We all ended up just leaving when it never came. Went here with some local friends on Sat. night for dinner. They had reservations, seemed like a good idea considering how busy it was. The word on the street is, since the "corp" took it over not much has changed, but I have nothing but hearsay to base this on. However the manager won best manager out of 500 places a few years in a row, pretty cool. (and she was extremely pleasant when she came over and chatted with us) The patio was packed, it was a epic night on the river, weather wise. The views are superb. We had a few cocktails waiting a mere 5 minutes to be seated. We sat inside along the river, again, nice views. Started off with some wonderful bread, drinks a'plenty, oysters and conversation. Our service from start to end was wonderful. As mentioned earlier the manager came over and said hello, nice touch. The menu is very extensive, lots of selections to choose from. I started with the Martha vineyards salad (not sure if the name is attributed to more than the obvious) But holy bananas, this little salad was down right incredible! Not kidding, one of the best side/starter salads I have had, ever! And the lobster was very good, all of the meals we ordered looked great, only praises in regards to taste. The place has a wonderful warmth and feel to it, does not put off a corp owned feel. Obviously it appeals to a more mature crowd, however not ancient. I go here for Sunday brunch every time I go visit the bf's parents. I can't review the other menu items, but the brunch buffet is pretty good. They've got a nice assortment of brunch fixins - waffles, omelets, potatoes, beef, crab legs, bagels, pasta, fish...and the service is good. They take reservations for Sunday and it's a good idea to make one if you plan to get there after 10:30. The reviews below are correct - the view from the North side of the restaurant is great - you can drive your boat right up if you have one. This restaurant sits on St Clair river....but before I go any further......When we first drove in the parking lot, the motel attached to it, looks a little run down and when you go inside, it is a little dated. They have an outdoor patio and an area of the restaurant that over looks the river that is enclosed from outdoor elements. This is where we were seated and had the best waitress. She was top notch in recommendations and service. We started off with the Portobello Caprese Oven roasted with fresh mozzarella & basil; tomato cream and the Oysters Rockefeller-Accented with béarnaise sauce . Each of these were under $11's. We also ordered Classic Shrimp Scampi -Sautéed in garlic-herb butter; lemon scented sticky rice & chef's vegetable selection and Cajun Chicken Tortellini-Mushrooms, tomatoes, blackened chicken, cheese tortellini; Cajun cream sauce. Each meal was under $20's. The food was fresh and amazing. The chief knew how to cook. I kid you not, we did not talk while we ate. We savored every bite. I have always been a huge River Crab fan. When you make a reservation, ask for a table with a view. Looking out onto the water really adds to the dining experience. All of the fresh fish is delicious. I always get the perch and it never disappoints. The wine list contains many great selections. There is a yummy chocolate dessert with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge-YUM. A few tips-be sure to mention when you call if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary. The restaurant printed up special menus for us on our 10th anniversary. It was a nice touch. Also- join the frequent dining club. It is free and you can earn points toward free meals at participating restaurants. I always feel like I get better seating with this membership too. read more

My husband and I traveled from Macomb , MI to St Clair, MI. We were going to celebrate are 28th Wedding Anniversary. We arrived just before 4 PM today. Mind you the inside of the restaurant was empty. Maybe Five tables of two. The young hostess asked if we had reservations? We said no. She then told us she was told to tell customers without reservations that she would have to turn us away and could not accommodate us today. We could come back another day. Really i don't think so. I have been a patron of this restaurant for years. I could see if they were super busy but this was not the case. No one even sitting at the bar area either. No one In line or waiting to be sorted. This is definitely the cream of the crop for restaurant offerings in St Clair. Their seafood is fantastic. I'm particularly a fan of the blackened swordfish, the parmesan encrusted sole, and the snapper. Good desserts, excellent view of the water, warm decor, and a top-notch Sunday brunch. The Voyager and The Inn do not stack up - The Crab is tops. Don't listen to the earlier reviewers as they obviously don't understand the point of a review. Vegetarians complaining about the smell of fish in a seafood restaurant? How helpful - I should one-star your favorite veggie restaurant for not selling enough steak. The best thing going for this place is the view. The restaurant looks out onto Lake Saint Clair, and it is really peaceful and beautiful. On the other hand, the food is pretty unremarkable, and not cheap. I guess I've never been really wowed by Chuck Meur offerings. It always seems that the food is bland and expensive. Although I didn't eat seafood, my tablemates were not so happy with their salmon. I think it would be a better idea to find one of the handful smallish places on the lake in Algonac or St. Clair, which are probably more reasonable and have better food. read more

I have always had a great experience here with guests, which is a great thing because obviously this place is high class and a bit expensive. No matter what time of year, if you are seated near the window that looks out to the water and Canada, it's a great view! You gotta love the bread and crackers you get at the beginning too. River Crab has some of the best seafood dishes that you can get as well. I've had the apple sea bass and it was cooked to perfection. They also have a large selection of wine to go with your meal. The atmosphere is so nice here because the music is very soft so that you can talk to the guests you are there with. We got desert during a particular visit and wow was it a lot. It was the chocolate cake, something you don't expect to be too extravagant at a fancy restaurant, but they brought out such a large piece! The River Crab is definitely among my favorite restaurants in St Clair County. Usually reserved for special occasions, I can't seem to avoid the Surf and Turf. Salads always have a little extra character and the veggies on the side are carefully presented. Chocolate Fish for dessert are REAL and delicious (real choco not real fish) so it will melt in your hands. I don't typically go here during the busier times, so the service is usually very good. I have noticed that when it gets slammed the service can suffer, so be aware of that. Also the quarters can get a little tight during the busier times. Try it on a week night if you can. This unfortunately is the reason I can't comment on the brunch (I've never been) though I hear it is delicious. read more
