Very good restaurant. Solid choice. Good chops, oysters rockefeller, turkey dinners on Sunday. Some pleasant surprises sprinkled about the menu. Good bread, soups and salads too. Service can be erratic and clannish. The seasoned wait staff usually go straight to the regulars or larger parties. The inexperienced wait staff get everyone else. They try hard. It can get loud in here as the open bar spills straight into the restaurant. Decor is Gar Wood nautical. You can tell how good a restaurant is if you wish it were closer to your house. That and if you like it so much that you're going to make the drive to eat there anyway. That's how I'd describe Catch 22. This does not look like a cutting edge restaurant. It looks like the kind of restaurant your parents ate at in the 80s (and the kind I ate at in the 80s). That's not totally fair, because it does have a nautical charm that represents the community. But, of course, the food is what matters most. It starts right away with freshly baked bread (how many places since the 80s do that anymore?). It was served with a sweet butter, but they have no problem providing a regular butter. We were told the mushroom soup was good, but the waitress undersold it. It was rich and savory and flavorful, the kind of soup that makes you wish you were at home so you could lick the bowl. My wife was territorial about sharing her salmon, with good reason. This is a fishing community that prides itself on the quality of its seafood. I loved the flawless preparation of the sliver of salmon she reluctantly shared with me. I didn't mind because the ahi tuna was magical. I offered her some, but she was happy with her salmon. Her loss. I ordered it medium rare; I enjoy my tuna steak the way I enjoy my beef steak. And, this was a beautiful cut of tuna. It was encrusted in peppercorns and sesame seeds, giving it a little bite. Take that, Gordon Ramsay! I got it with a side of perfectly lumpy mashed potatoes, with robust dark gravy on the side. Combined with the tuna, it was a lot of food, but there was never any doubt I was going to eat every bit of it. I ordered a local brew, Anchor Bay Noble Mutt red ale. Not as malty as a typical red, which I enjoyed. It didn't interfere with the meal. The service was also very quick, and cheerfully rendered by our server. It's not cheap, but there's no way something that good should ever be cheap. We're already trying to figure out the next time we can come back here. read more

Food always very good and I've come multiple times over the years. My last time here my server wasn't the best, messed up immediately on our drinks but, apparently she figured that out pretty quickly by my correction on one drink and the fact I snatched a lemon off my drink and threw it on the table. She did apologize but I cannot understand why a "no lemon" order which I'm very specific about comes with lemon in it. Ugh. Rest of service was fine. Being a former waitress years ago, we still tipped her 22%. If she hadn't had the initial screw up, she'd have gotten 30%. I will still be going back as this is the first time I've ever had an issue and in the scheme of things, it wasn't huge. read more

For the price, you can't beat this place. Best prime rib around, extremely reasonably priced. The shrimp Rockefeller is delicious. Calamari could be a bit better, cocktails could be better, and please turn down the damn lights. Place is lit up like a Denny's. I've been looking for a great steak house with reasonable prices and great portions that's a big cut above the Coney Island but considerably below fine dining. This is it!!! Not sure if ownership changed or the cook. We used to go in there all the time. We ordered fish and liver and onions. The fish was rubbery. The fries had no flavor and if you could imagine eating cardboard that would be what they were like. The portion of the liver was so small. It was equal in comparison to two strips of bacon for the $45 that it was the side sale. It was the best thing even their French onion soup sucked! Will never go there again and it is a shame. Wanted to truly give this a good review but I guess I was wrong. First time for my wife and I and was not impressed at all. She ordered the Maurice Salad. Two stars for the salad cuz she loved it. I ordered the Mess of Perch Entree and the perch to be pan fried. My choice of a side was the French Onion Soup. It was terrible. We could not figure what type of horrible cheese was on top. I sent it back ad got a bowl of lettuce for my side salad. The perch was even worse. No taste and was very rubbery and watery. Best thing I had was the baked potato! Waitress was just ok. Had a cuban sandwich, grilled perfectly with gouda pulled pork and ham, topped with hot peppers and pickles with mustard sauce...so good...steak fries cooked perfect. I thought I had reviewed this in the past. Guess not. Based on the interior I would say the bar dates to the 1960's. Somewhat limited draft beer but a good bottled selection. I've eaten there several times, never had a bad meal. Does tend to be an older clientele (and by older I mean older than my 58 years). The bar is decorated with Criss Craft boat swag and parts. Hubby and I stopped in here randomly one evening in the summer. It's near the water in Algonac and the drive alone is beautiful. It resembles a boat inside. Lots of wood. Big tables and bar seating. We each had a special and our service was fabulous. She took time to make sure I knew how they would prepare the ahi tuna I ordered and kept drinks full. Salad was fresh with a large slice of cucumber, grape tomatoes and delicious ranch. We came back this past Sunday with our daughter and my parents and had another excellent visit. My dad was impressed with the large portions. My daughter said her fettuccini was the best she's ever had. I tried it and it was SO good! I was so torn on what to get and ended up with the jumbo shrimp scampi. It was very good! Loved the butter sauce and their cocktail sauce was also good. They give you a big chunk of broccoli when ordered as a side. They serve the shrimp with an open face-type tomato with melted cheese. Now, I'm not a tomato person to begin with, but it was a big odd. Hubby tried it and said it tasted like pizza. Idk. Haha! Mom had fish and chips... very good batter, thick and not soggy and steak fries. Hubby got the pork chops. He loved it. Back in Business we came in for our first night out to dinner since the shut down. All workers had on masks. My boyfriend has been in several times but this was my first time to Catch 22. The restaurant itself is clean and has a cozy feel to it. We started with the Steak Bites on the appetizer list. They were good and came with pita bread, would've been better with a little dipping sauce on the side but overall they were very tasty. We both got French onion soup which was great! I ordered the Pasta Tuscano, 10/10! The shrimp was delicious and tasted very fresh as did the scallops and mussels in the dish. I'm not sure what the pasta was in this dish but it tasted homemade and melted in your mouth. My boyfriend got the Jumbo Shrimp Scampi- again the shrimp was cooked perfectly and very fresh. Catch 22 We had dinner at Catch 22 on Saturday night, as we do at least one time per week.This is definitely not an inexpensive restaurant, but the food is usually good and I like supporting local businesses. I ordered salmon that was served on spinach, but the special was salmon with honey almond glaze, I asked for that to be put on mine as well, I knew there would be an up charge. When we recieved the bill we had been charged for the higher price dish plus a side of spinach making the price right around $21 from $17. I asked the manager about this and he offhandedly said this is the way it is and walked away, the $5 is not going to change my life, but I felt taken advantage of and dismissed. I guess they do not need my business, but $5 for spinach is way out of line. The manager needs to learn some people skills, as well as math skills to be willing to lose $200-300 worth of business a month over spinach, the food is not good,I will not be back. I should have been charged got the spinach only, but not the higher price dish as well. Do the math again it came out to $5 dollars more. read more
