We have been to this restaurant several times, but this is our first review. We took our boat out and was coming up the river and planned to eat at this restaurant. We love how you can dock your boat and walk up. We absolute love their nachos as well as onion rings. Our friend got the coconut shrimp salad and said it was delicious. The service was pretty good and friendly. You can either eat outside or inside and they have a great view of the canal. Definitely something on their menu for everyone. Was seated at the end of rush hour 2 hours before closing. 3 adults, 6 kids. Sat for an hour without food. They finally brought two plates for 2 adults and we didn't see the server again for another 5 minutes. This place is a disaster. Do not recommend to anyone. read more

HORRIBLE, clearly understaffed, overwhelmed, whoever was at the pass, if anyone, can't taste or see. Hostess got our drinks because she felt bad, 20 minutes in server came to the table. Food runner dropped appetizer with no plates so had to get up to get our own, should have left then. Entrees were inedible, I don't think they believe in salt because it certainly wasn't on any of the food and there wasn't any shakers on tables. 1 hour in and server comes to give us a check and ask if we need a box and when we said no it was a blank stare. I said the food was not good and she left again to talk to her manager to take it off the bill. Another 15 minutes later feeling like I was being held hostage over a check I couldn't get I get the check with 13 bucks off the bill. $55 for boiled ribs slathered in idk what you call it sauce, over fried ravioli that you couldn't cut, steamed broccoli and carrots with no butter, baked potato with no butter just sour cream. When I asked for the manager a waitress said that some puppet master in the kitchen was the one that made the decision on what the percentage of food that was left for a discount. Wasn't asking for a discount, was asking for edible food, if you can't seem to put food out that is at least halfway better than fast food then don't bother at those prices. Maybe don't seat an entire restaurant if you can't handle it. I was not allowed to speak to anyone else because the magic man behind the kitchen door was non existent. First time, last time. Everything on the menu is WAY over priced. Even the appetizers are $10-$11 to $15. That's ridiculous for mediocre bar food. It would be different if they served large portions of really good quality food, but, that's not the case. I wouldn't even go there but the group I was riding with decided on that place. wondering if they changed ownership. ordered a chicken hummus wrap. There were three thin pieces of chicken and a dollop of hummus on the bottom of the wrap. It was all lettuce. since Our waitress was busy and the hostess was walking by I asked her why there was no hummus (let alone lack of chicken) and she said it was probably at the bottom (hmmmmm....its a wrap!). Went there on a quiet evening a few weeks ago to have dinner as the sun set by the water. Wanted to sit outside; there were plenty of tables. Informed the waiter, he told us that we had to wait. We asked if we could get drinks at the bar and wait at an empty table. He said no, and that their policy was nobody was allowed on the patio until they could be seated. Because people could get "squirrelly" about it. Manager confirmed in curt messaging. We waited 20 minutes. A reservation came in, and they seared us at the table that we had asked for originally 20 minutes before. Huh. We were in a week before for lunch and ignored once a large table of 12 came in. Ordered a chicken wrap with hummus couldn't find the chicken maybe 10 teenie weenie pieces explained to are waitress that I wasn't pleased just to be told that they put a whole chicken breast in those wraps. NOT!!! Besides that it was all lettuce and just a dab of ranch, DISGUSTING!!!! She didn't even ask if I wanted something to replace my meal being that I was so dissatisfied!! Pepper Joe's is another underrated gem to not overlook when visiting the city of St. Clair. I went to this restaurant as the first customer by the time they opened, hoping that the first time eating here is hopefully not the last. And judging from the menu items that made my order hard to decide, it did not disappoint As a food and restaurant critic myself, I am quite surprised by how many great menu items there are. There are menu items inspired by the Tex-Mex cuisine and many other items from common cuisines around the world. My server was very attentive and friendly, but sometimes slow with my raspberry tea. Service might need to pick up the pace when it's quiet and not busy in the first hour of business. Other than ordering raspberry iced tea, I ordered a steak and bleu cheese salad with two side containers of ranch dressing. The price of the meal-sized salads are sort of on the pricy side; my salad was $17.99. The salad contained slices of steak cooked to order, bacon bits, bleu cheese tomatoes and tons of green goodness. It was a very filling and delicious salad. I think this salad is fantastic given that it was made to 100% perfection! The ambience of Christmas decorations (given it's a month away from the holidays) and views of Pine River made this restaurant and unforgettable experience! The verdict of this place - I will be coming back to this place. However, busy or not busy, pick up the pace of service. Other than that, the food is fantastic! read more

We have been here many times and have always had great food. I especially love the steak quesadillas! The steak is tender and very filling. The baked potato soup is my favorite. In the summer we enjoy sitting outside on the patio and watch the boat traffic. Great place for hanging out with friends and having a good meal. read more

I've only been here once but the place was great. We may have had the best seat in the house. A booth from which we could see 3 monster screens as well as a view of the river. Very sweet for watching the Detroit Tigers. We each had a Margarita, which is not my usual drink but they were delicious. The very berry was like an adult slurpee, and the coconut margarita slapped you in the mouth with Tequila. We had fajitas and coconut shrimp and a side of chips, add a couple margaritas and its $40+ The tortilla chips were warm and I believe made on site. The salsa was kinda basic, but the chips really made the difference. The Fajitas were served with a small amount of pico, 4 shells, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and a side of rice. I opted for the steak, the steak strips were cooked perfectly for me ( a little pink in the middle) though I didn't specify so if you don't like your meat this way you may want to let them know ahead of time. The coconut shrimp were a nice size and the batter was yummy. The marmalade type sauce served with them wasn't the best coconut side sauce I've had, I think I like Red Lobsters sauce better :( But thats really pretty minor. We had steak fries and they were done right. Overall I'd definitely go back, I'm sorry I overlooked this gem for so long. read more

I ordered a classic margarita and I feel it must have been a pre mix. - not very good either. They had an entire margarita menu so I thought it would be good. Went here for lunch on a Sunday during the St. Clair Art Fair and the good was very good. Had the Pickle Nuggs as an appetizer and the breading was crispy. We sat on the covered deck and enjoyed a great meal served by delightful and attentive waitstaff. The second time we tried to visit they were closed. My niece, myself and my 2 daughters went to Pepper Joe's for dinner last night (Thursday). I have not been there for a few years and thought we would give it a try. It was very crowded outside so we opted to sit inside. When they seated us they brought kids menus but no crayons or placemats. Being a mom of a 1 and 3 year old, I had crayons in my purse and asked for a placemat for them to color. It didn't come until AFTER our food was served (a very long time!). It's not very kid friendly. I mean, who brings out something for the kids to color 2 minutes after their food gets there? Instantly they are done eating and want to color. We ordered a full order of Nachos, a buffalo chicken salad and an order of chicken strips for the kids. It took 50 minutes for us to get our food. It was ok, nothing special. The portions seem huge when they bring it to the table but then you realize that the salad is "huge" because of the overabundance of lettuce, not because of all the goodies that come atop it. The nachos were the same, lots of dry chips, hardly any cheese. However the kids meal was a good portion and we brought just about the whole thing home. The bill was $30.00 which seemed average. We were there for about 1 hour and 40 minutes which, in my opinion, is way too long for dinner with kids! My last experience was also not a good one. We had ordered carry out of fajitas, guacamole and chips and ribs. When we got home, there were no tortillas for the fajitas, a portion only large enough that you might have been able to fill up 2 tortillas....if you had them. No chips with the guacamole and the ribs were pathetic as well. This was almost 2 years ago. I suspect it will be that long again IF I ever give this place another try. read more

It's only one of a few choices in the area, but some of the items are worth coming back for. The Good They have a really good quesadilla burger and I plan on getting it again next time I am in the area. The Bad The fajitas are ok, but the sides are pretty spare and you have to ask for additional Guac, salsa and sour cream. They offer an Asian salad, but no Asian dressing. Without the flavor from a sesame vinaigrette, or even an orange balsamic, it is not an Asian salad... it is just a salad. The Ugly The service is hit or miss.
