I got a lovely buffalo chicken sandwich with something a little extra. A nice, big fat juicy hair that was so obvious you could see it from the space station. Stuff happens, I get it, but the waitress was barely apologetic, and I wasn't offered any compensation for sitting and watching my companion eat his entire meal. Given that it was a business meeting I was not in a position to negotiate, I would just have to settle on being disappointed in this place. On a side note, the non-hairy food was really good! We really wanted to like everything about this place. It's in a great location and I'm sure it's a hit during boating season. Unfortunately we felt the food slightly over priced for what we got. I got the Dubliner burger which was AMAZING except that the portion was too small, not even a 1/4lb of burger. The chips were so good and the balsamic reduction sauce on them was really good. My fiancé had the Black and Bleu salad which was ok. Plenty big enough but the leaf lettuce was cut with iceberg and the steak pieces were cut way too small and nothing extra done to steak. A friend & I went to Pepper Joe's last Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. It was a sunny warm day, and we opted to sit outside on a deck which overlooks the river. Our server arrived promptly, and was extremely attentive. The menu is predominantly a sandwich fare, which was quite varied, and should satisfy any craving. She ordered a perch sandwich, while I selected the french dip. Both orders were to come with steak fries. For our appetizer, I ordered the cream of mushroom soup (with 2 spoons)...a new offering. The soup was outstanding. It was creamy, and almost seemed like it was made from a base of potato soup, and was abounding with mushrooms. Our meal arrived right on time. The steak fries were hot and crisp, with soft centers. Perfect. Unfortunately, that was the best part of our meals. Her perch sandwich was cold, as was my french dip. It seemed that perhaps the sandwiches waited for the fries to cook, and by that time, had gotten cool. I will say that the beef, cheese, and bread were tasty, but the broth (dip) was in a little bitty plastic cup. It was all but impossible to dip the sandwich in to the plastic cup. I ended up cutting the sandwich into pieces so they'd fit into the cup. So while the service was stellar, the presentation perfect, the view from the deck, wonderful...the sandwiches were off the mark. I have a pet peeve. I loathe when servers call women, or groups of men and women "guys". "What would you guys like to drink?" That drives me crazy. It is disingenuous, and in certain circumstances...insulting. I do not hesitate to point this out when it (all too often) happens. I complimented our server, for the fact that she did NOT use "guys" while serving us. She told us that the employee manual forbids use of the term "guys". That is awesome! I usually go to a restaurant with no expectations, but I'll admit that I expected better quality of food. First time I ate here. Take out The onion rings were great! Love the dip n sauce, the broccoli soup was very good as well, the Philly sambo was great! The dilly me burger and the Mediterranean stack were both extremely flavorful and we would definitely do them again. Several soups to choose from and they were also very good. I would give no stars if I could. Great spot. Lousy service. Food is average or below. Not very busy when we were there took about an hour for food to arrive. Charged $1.50 for cheese for a child's burger. Manager asked how everything was we were honest and told her it was too slow. She didn't seem to care. Gave it a try for a dinner out somewhere new. Walked into joe's ready for a good meal. Was not let down by the perch or the service. I saw the waitress walk toward my table- she was beautiful. She told me her name was Mia with a smile on her face and i looked at her with pure zest. Told her I'd like a very berry margarita and a glass of water, it was perfect. Got the perch sando and some chips with queso. Everything Mia did was great. I'll definitely be coming back and asking for her again. Waddled outta joe's and sat in my car for a bit, reminiscin about Mia. Got home and started gettin sweaty. I was a bit gassy and had to hit to toilet- puked up all the queso. This is a dependable restaurant for a good meal. The menu consists mostly of burgers, wraps, quesadillas and daily specials (ribs, chicken or seafood). Several vegetarian options- my fave is the Mediterranean stack. It is made with thick pita bread, feta, hummus, tomato, etc. I absolutely love the cheesy tortilla poblano soup! The menu is a little pricey (quesadillas average $10-$12) but most choices come with your choice of a "side". The food is fresh and homemade and good quality. The restaurant has a phenomenal deck; directly on the Pine River but with views of the St. Clair River and drawbridge. Pay them a visit soon and try their homemade potato chips! read more

Pepper Joe's patio has a nice view of the Pine River. Not a fan of the annoyingly loud cigarette boats that roar past and sometimes tie up. Weird to go to a bar that's out of so many cocktail ingredients. Getting food and drinks takes awhile. Service is distracted at best. Dirty dishes and glasses were left on tables around us for the entire dinner. It was disgusting. Tables in the bar weren't wiped clean. Servers stood around chatting inside. Inexperienced waitress, they brought me the wrong meal, put the soggy chicken from the wrong meal on my new sandwich and then I found hair in new sandwich! The manager never came out on her own until we sought her out which gave the impression of not caring. They did take the sandwich off the bill, but we had to ask about it. Pepper Joe's is a little joint on the Pine River in St. Clair with an even littler parking lot. This place recently changed their menu - they used to have a tex-mex vibe to their menu, but it now has more standard upper-end pub fare. The menu has various sandwiches and burgers - they'll run you between $7-$10 for the most part - along with big salads ($10ish) and entrees (up to $20). Burgers are a big part of their new menu, and they have a good selection of speciality burgers to choose from. Overall, their menu has a great selection at relatively fair prices - although it would be nice if they offered some lunch specials. Pepper Joe's has a huge deck which I am sure is super popular in summer nights with live music and things of that nature. - They have a small bar area in the front and a decent sized dining area in the back with lots of windows. When I was last there, we were one of two tables seated in the whole place - and I was a little troubled by the fact that I felt like I had to chase down the server to pay by bill. Service is nice, but not necesarily the most efficient. I can see how the atmosphere could make this the place to be during the warm weather months - but during the winter I would much rather head up the road to Murphy's. read more

It seemed like they had been sitting for a while and were warmed in the microwave. We both had the Cajun Pasta with chicken. The pasta was just ok. Pepper Joe's is a great lunch and dinner place on the water. They have an outdoor deck right on the St. Clair River that is great for evening dinners in the summertime. Their menu is diverse, they have a huge variety of sandwiches and I have yet to try one that didn't please me. Their salads are huge and also very satisfying. They have plenty of entrees from perch to ribs to steak, but prices can run a bit steep so I have yet to try any of them. The waitstaff is friendly and orders usually arrive quick even when they're super busy. They give your table a small loaf of bread and butter which is certainly something to look forward to since it's always warm and fresh. read more

First time trying out the restaurant. It was O.K. Atmosphere is very awkward inside, the patio looked nice for a good summer lunch. Server was nice, but service was slow and seemed extremely disorganized considering they weren't that busy. Husband loved the Coconut chicken. My fajitas weren't the greatest. Lesson - Don't get Mexican at a non-Mexican joint. Pricey considering the style of restaurant... Been going here for years with great enjoyment until this year. They used to have the best margaritas in st Clair county, but not any more. They used to be huge fishbowl size and tasted great now they come served in a tiny short martini glass and they are so bitter you can hardly drink one. The prices on there drinks have skyrocketed to $10 for standard whiskey. Food is still good hence the second star. The first star is for there beautiful view on the pine river and there nice wait staff. Been to Pepper Joe's once before during winter this year, and I really liked the tortilla poblano soup. The sandwich I had was good, too. So I was looking forward to another meal last night. My fiancee and I asked for a seat on the deck so we can enjoy some of the nice weather that we seem to have so few of this year. The place didn't seem too busy--there were several empty tables around us as we waited. I was still looking forward to that soup and was going for the bleu buffalo chicken sandwich that I ogled on the menu as we waited. My fiancee also decided on her meal and we talked about sharing some onion rings as we waited. It would be nice to have something to drink as we waited. OK it's been at least 15 minutes of waiting for anyone to at least acknowledge that we were customers. At this point we were really annoyed. I pulled out my phone and opened up the Yelp app and started looking for other restaurants. My fiancee and I joked that if we agreed on another place before anyone came by, then we would walk out. Hey, we were still giving this place a shot at our business. Unfortunately, that turned out to be no joke. As we were leaving, I noticed the table next to us had 2 menus with a pair of wrapped silverware and no butts in the seats. I guess we weren't the first to walk out hungry. My fiancee handed over our menus to a random employee with some friendly words about customer service. Adios my poor tortilla soup. I'll bump it up to 3 stars for the good experience from the previous time, and we'll probably try again when the bad taste wears off. But I can wait. read more

One of us asked for items not to be put on their burger but they were on the burger when it arrived. Server said that is the way it comes and walked away rather than trying to remedy the situation. If I could put NO stars, that's what I would do. This will be short. My friend tried to eat at this place with her family this evening, celebrating her mother's birthday. Her father is blind and has a seeing eye dog, and the manager would not allow them to dine there because of the dog! Now, there must be laws against this and I'm sure violates the ADA. We just ate at Pepper Joe's in St. Clair. They were AWESOME!!! The service staff went above and beyond the call. The prices were better than other restaurants on the river where a boat can dock and eat... The manager came to our table to make sure that my mom's (who is highly allergic to onions) food was taken care of with the most care and consideration for her allergy. Pepper joes has the best nacho I have ever had. The chicken tenders with sweet and sour sauce or buffalo style are great as well. I drive over 45 minutes to eat at pepper joes about 5-6 times a year. I don't think the price is higher than any other restaurant but I am not from the area. Prices seemed normal to me. read more
