Well this review is tricky because the atmosphere and drinks were great and the apps were OK but the main courses were average at best. The service was just ehhh as well. My experience here was the text book definition of ehhh. I would of given it 5 stars for the views but 2.5 stars for the food. We will give it another chance mostly for the view. read more

I have always had a great experience here with guests, which is a great thing because obviously this place is high class and a bit expensive. No matter what time of year, if you are seated near the window that looks out to the water and Canada, it's a great view! You gotta love the bread and crackers you get at the beginning too. River Crab has some of the best seafood dishes that you can get as well. I've had the apple sea bass and it was cooked to perfection. They also have a large selection of wine to go with your meal. The atmosphere is so nice here because the music is very soft so that you can talk to the guests you are there with. We got desert during a particular visit and wow was it a lot. It was the chocolate cake, something you don't expect to be too extravagant at a fancy restaurant, but they brought out such a large piece! I've been coming to the River Crab long enough to remember when the cajun chicken and tortellini first appeared - long before it was a regular menu item. Whether it was a family gathering or special occasion, I always loved coming here. Charley's Chowder hasn't changed over the years and it's a knockout! Fantastic bread as well. Once I got a little older and appreciated seafood more I liked this place even more. That being said, they have something for everyone, ie the aforementioned cajun chicken and tortellini. My most recent trip was this summer when I returned home for a few days. Had the chili dusted tuna sandwich for lunch - it was gargantuan and tasty to boot. If you're not a seafood fan and can't be convinced to come here for dinner at all, try brunch. It's a tad pricey for every week consumption, but the spread is delicious and can't be beat locally. read more

What a hidden gem in the Port Huron area. It is located right on the river so seeing freighters go by at dinner is not unusual, we saw three when we visited. The service was great, though one downfall was they would not substitute the wedge on the pri fixe menu. Customer service 101. But other than that it was lovely. Water and wine never went empty. The food portions are a bit large but that's a win in my book. Nice leftovers are always great. I had the wedge salad, and the trio. I would recommend for groups or a romantic night out. read more

My husband and I came there yesterday for dinner to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. The appetizers were so good, octopus was amazing, as was our dinner. However, what topped off our evening was our server, Cheryl. She was so much fun, attentive to everything, just made a great night better! We love it here and have stayed several times. This past Sunday we enjoyed a beautiful and tasty brunch with some friends. Food and service were great. A bit slow on drinks from the bar but nothing to worry about. The buildings are outdated but that is okay - once inside the view of the river and the food make this a non-issue. The rooms are cool and each one is decorated differently, it's fun when you do get to stay. Who knows what your room will look like. I love that about this place no cookie cutter rooms where all of them are exactly the same. read more

For a wonderful treat you should try the Sunday Brunch. Wonderful breakfast, lunch dinner and dessert all rolled into one. The service was outstanding as was the food. What a great way to spend a Sunday morning. Gazing at the beautiful blue water flowing by your window seat and seeing at least three freighters go by. A less expensive way to enjoy the River Crab is to go for their Sunset dining. (I think that's what it's called). Be seated by 6 pm. As a vegetarian it was a little tricky picking an entrée- I ended up getting a pasta that was packed with veggies, however I could easily make it myself for less than 5$. Man oh man! Drove 90 minutes thinking about that warm bread We arrived when the restaurant was 1/4 occupied and we were seated outside on the deck overlooking the river. So far so good. A few tables around us were already eating and enjoying their drinks. 10, 15,20 minutes pass before we are approached by a server asking if we have been helped yet. I informed her she caught us just in time as we were about to leave. She took our drink and dinner ordered since we had plenty of opportunity to read the menu over a few times during the time we were ignored 15 minutes pass before our simple drinks arrived Ice tea and a Bloody Mary No sweeteners for the tea and a Bloody Mary devoid of any garnish Salads come out a few minutes later without a basket of warm bread We requested one as well as the tables on either side of ours wanting seconds. No problem they're baking a fresh batch we are told The dinners are brought out and still no bread yet a server working tables nearby is bringing baskets to his tables. We are told they got slammed inside. The coconut shrimp was tasty yet devoid of the salsa and dipping sauce My potato crusted whitefish was bland, cold and not cooked through. Still no bread basket while others around us are on seconds & thirds. The server came to us as we were completing our meals and told us it would be 5-10 minutes longer for a bread basket We left so disappointed I stopped at the bar to get some me singles for the valet when the bartender asked about our meal. I gave him a quick overview of the experience and he asked if I'd like to speak to the manager. Well ok I replied and he proceeded to waiting on nobody at the empty bar and never searched out the manager. One star is generous at best I don't expect any response from ownership based on the culture that has ruined this once enjoyable establishment read more

My wife and I were in for dinner tonight and it was not a great experience. The young lady who waited on us was very friendly. However the food was subpar. Calamari and firecracker shrimp appetizers were ok. Snow crab leg entrees were not fresh at all. The taste was off and the crab was unfortunately VERY over cooked. This meal cost us 200 dollars with the tip. We have absolutely no problem with the price for a quality meal, but the crab was almost to the point of being inedible. Again, no issues with the service. We've been dining here for many years and can consistently count on great service, food and ambiance. Regina was a delightful server who made sure we were perfectly taken care of. I'm only giving this a 2 because the desserts weren't horrible. For a restaurant that sets the prices as high as they do, they fell insanely short on their quality and flavor. I ordered the scallops (thinking that because it was a seafood restaurant it would be acceptable), and I was largely disappointed. They were room temp, sandy, and flavorless (aside form the fishy flavor). The side of rice was old, and the green beans were noticeably canned. My husband ordered the IPA fish and chips, which were done nicely, but it's hard to screw up fish and chips. My daughter ordered the coconut shrimp and the sauce on it tasted like something you would get out of a Franks Red Hot bottle. My son wanted the kids order of mac&cheese and it was (at best!) 20 macaroni noodles in cheese sauce. To say i was disappointed is an understatement. The drinks are expensive and inconsistent as well. I ordered a pomegranate martini, which was good, so i ordered a second; the second one was all pomegranate juice and hardly any liquor. To spend nearly $200 on a Father's Day diner and to walk away unimpressed and disappointed is not at all what we thought we would've experience. Please, don't waste your money or your time... if you want good seafood, make the drive to Mitchell's. read more

Although it's a buffet, it's well managed (full) and the selection is extensive including lasagna, carving station with prime rib and ham, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, potatoes, biscuits n gravy, green salad, pasta salads, fresh fruit, huge cinnamon rolls, shrimp, lox, etc etc, a dessert table with lots of choices, and $3 mimosas. The $25/pp price makes it worth 4 stars. Value is meh. The dining room is really comfortable, has great views, service is good, and live piano is a nice touch. We would have given this 5 stars. However, the "hostess" (a bald-headed girl) was downright rude and deceitful. She told us we needed reservations to be seated (we were dressed nice and explained to her that we drove an hour to get there). Although the restaurant had restrictions on seating capacity due to Covid, a large majority of the tables were empty, so we thought maybe they were expecting more people to come in within the next couple of hours. Then we asked to speak to the manager, and the manager said "absolutely, no problem" and she seated us at one of their nicest tables facing the water. A second couple, about 15 minutes later was also seated by the manager. We could hear her apologizing to the couple as she seated them. To top this all off...by the time we were done eating (~4:30 pm) the restaurant was 90% empty. And, on our way out we overheard the bald-headed hostess tell another couple they were booked, and turned them away! Why a restaurant with such a distinctive reputation would put a woman like this as the first person the public comes in contact with is inconceivable. The restaurant would be better served by putting her in the back washing dishes, or cleaning the restaurant after hours. We will certainly go back - we've been going there since it was the Fisherman's Wharf in the 80's. Our waitress, Debbie, was spectacular! And, as always, the food was delicious. Hopefully, the bald-headed hostess will have been reassigned where she can't hurt the business. read more

Went to celebrate my Oma's 89th birthday tonight and the food was amazing as I had remembered from years ago. The waitress was very kind and accommodating from the moment we arrived. The 2 dishes that were a table favorite were the Cajun Chicken Tortellini and the New York Strip Steak. Both cooked to perfection! The Wedge Salad was pretty delicious as well. Cheesecake and the Creme Brûlée for dessert and everyone was super happy with their choices. This place has a beautiful view no matter where you sit and has always served great food for years. I have been going to this restaurant since I was about 8 years old -- for 40 years. My parents used to take me to the River Crab and the Gandy Dancer in Ann Arbor even before I liked seafood! I live in NYC now and still like going to the when I visit my parents. They are currently at the River Crab enjoying their 55th wedding anniversary dinner. I just called the restaurant to pay for their dinner and was told "we don't take credit cards over the phone". What?! A restaurant that doesn't take credit cards over the phone? We called ahead to get reservations and got a table on the water. They Gave us a menu with happy anniversary on it just like Mortons Steakhouse and misspelled our names. I'm trying to have a romantic meal with my wife and I get marketing crap. Are these guys too stupid to know what segment of the market they're appealing to? Cheap hucksterism during a fine dining experience really pisses me off. What idiot at corporate came up with this game plan? I, for one, will never go to another Landreys And last time I dropped about six bills at Morton's. I had the waSabe Pea encrusted tuna. It was bland and flavorless. The accompanying vegetables were overdone and tasted moldy. The rice was piled in a geometric shape in the middle and was also flavorless. My wife had the chicken Pinot Grigio. Two breasts of chicken deep-fried covered with cheese and slapped on top of linguine swimming in oil and wine. Similarly flavorless and accompanied with a few diced tomatoes. The deals here seem to be the 3 PM to 6 PM sunset specials: three-course meal for 20 bucks. So big meal, no flavor,20 bucks, that's about it Except that you're on the river watching it Flow by. When the bill was presented we were again pitched with the $25 Landry's restaurants affinity card. When I complained to the manager she indicated that the waitress was only supposed to talk to us twice about the landreys affinity card during our meal. This still is certainly one of the best restaurants to go to in St. Clair County for seafood... but, my FAVORITE is now the "Marine City Fish Company". If you enjoy high-quality seafood, you should give them a try. They are just a small little place in Marine City, but the food is top-notch stuff. I'm not kidding here, if you enjoy the food at the River Crab, you owe it to yourself to head down to Marine City sometime. Got tickets for the River Cruise with dinner at the River Crab. The cruise was great with great service! The River Crab left a lot to be desired. I don't know if they couldn't handle that many people at one time or what, but there is no excuse for the vegetables not being cooked. The food was bland to say the least, very disappointing. SUNDAY BRUNCH! The brunch is sumptuous and diverse! This is a rare find. Breakfast foods, Lox & Bagels, full salads, and full luncheon buffet (including beef ham chicken & other) all at once. So many choices and all are tasty. The Mimosa or Bloody Mary is perfect. And, the desserts offer Bananas Foster. I have been to "the Crab" regularly for Brunch. Their food is high quality.
