Holy cannoli! This sweet shop is fabulous. The cannolis are crisp and filled with a light rich cream. The owners were inviting and generous. Only three words can describe this place "Oh my goodness". Those are the first words that came out of my mouth as I took a bite of their Strawberry Crunch Cake. Oh my goodness, this place is phenomenal it is located in an industrial looking area which kind of worried me a bit considering I was looking for a bakery but I was pleasantly surprised walking in being greeted my Mrs. Joan and a beautiful case of sweets. She shared with me that she truly listens to her customers and is willing to custom make anything. Everything in the case is customizable you want a slice of cheesecake but want to add some strawberry crumble? She can do it for you, how about a strawberry crunch cake with chocolate sauce and chocolate crumble? You got it. I ended up grabbing a slice of strawberry crunch cake and strawberry cream pie (customized with some strawberry crumble on top). Both items were absolutely delicious but that cake was out of this world. It was moist with a perfect frosting ratio. Some cakes often have a large amount of frosting due to aesthetics and can be hard to enjoy due to being overpoweringly sweet. This cake was so good with its ratio I had the perfect bite each time. River City Chocolate is the true embodiment of a hidden gem, tucked away between some industrial looking buildings lies an amazing bakery with so much heart. I came here recently and after a whole lot of indecisive pondering, I purchased four different treats to take home. S'mores, Oreo cake, strawberry crunch cake, and raspberry cheesecake bar. There is just SOMETHING about the graham cracker crust they use on the s'mores and the cheesecake bar that is just... better. I can't even put my finger on it, but I was addicted to how crunchy and flavorful the graham cracker crust was. I was a big fan. The cheesecake was soooooo smooth and creamy, and the ganache on the s'mores was fantastic. The Oreo was just okay in my opinion, but I am not the biggest fan of Oreo, I just stole a bite of my kiddos. Sharing is caring. I just found it a little more... crumbly than I like. The flavor was still quite Oreo-esque, it just wasn't for me. The strawberry crunch cake though... I can't even describe how good this one was. The cake texture was PERFECT on this one, the flavor was straight outta childhood - but grownup. It's like my favorite childhood ice cream bar, but with buttercream instead of ice cream. This couldn't be more of an understatement. Freshly baked, heavenly, run don't walk here, I'm still drooling while typing this perfection. This family owned business uses the best quality ingredients. Baking isn't only their passion, but it's their art. There are so many delicious treats to pick from. If you need help deciding, my favorites are the lemon decadence bar (has lemon cheesecake) and the lemon decadence cake (in case you missed it). You'll also want to try their famous s'mores bar. That hand-brûléed swiss meringue on top is everything. It'll be all anyone can talk about at your next bonfire. I love the way they do chocolate here (i.e. brownies and blackout bar). It's decadent and rich, but not too sweet. This is a great spot to get sweets for an event or sweets to treat yourself. They also have a great deal for their gooey and scrumptious cookies! Be sure to check out their Thanksgiving menu (that pumpkin pillow cookie is everything). River City Chocolate is totally worth the trip. If you don't feel like driving out there, you can get your sweets shipped! They ship nationwide so you can "spread the sugar." However, you won't get to meet Ed and his incredible family that way. I came here last weekend and I picked up some sweets, and everything was delicious. This place was a little tricky to get to and find, but it was worth it because of the indulgent desserts. I liked that they had some of everything. We got the cheesecake which had a raspberry drizzle on top which added a great flavor. We also had the peanut butter cookie sandwich, which had a delicious peanut butter, butter cream and chocolate drizzled on top! Lastly the Brookie was divine, the brownie was so fudgey, the cookie was chewy, and the Oreos, chocolate buttercream, and chocolate sauce were nice and sweet. Wow!!! Every single item was INCREDIBLE! The location is unassuming and in an industrial park. The owner explained the ingredients in the items and you can tell he had a real passion for his art. The actual storefront is the front of their production kitchen, since they provide desserts for hotels, restaurants, etc. Their chocolate is some of the best and most decadent I've ever had. One of the bakers is a former chocolatier and you can definitely tell. Everyone here is also so kind. They're the type of place you want to come back to not only for enjoying the product but also to support the staff since they're so welcoming and friendly. I've moved to DC but I always have my family pick up some when they come to visit or when I'm back home. When we told Ed that we drove.a half hour to get there, he worked hard to give us a reason to come back again. It's okay, Ed, we will be back. I am of the opinion that the brookie is hard to perfect: either the cookie or the brownie get overcooked. Not here! It was heavenly. It all was! My husband got the PB pie and my son selected the strawberry crunch cake-- no weak links in this chain. Please note that I received a fresh brookie straight out of the oven. Excellence. Luxury. Disclaimer: The negative part of this review is related to gluten in gluten-free products. I have used this bakery for other people's birthday to just grab a gourmet slice for someone special who wouldn't have a real need for a whole cake. I have been very pleased and gotten rave reviews. My aunt loved the dreamsicle cake. It looked moist and delicious, and the cheesecake filling gave it the extra high-end feel and taste. I love the convenience of a decent variety of options whenever you go. That being said, I cannot use this bakery myself, as they offer gluten-free, but they are, unfortunately, not reliably gluten-free. After I had been in isolation with covid for over a week with my son, my husband tried to surprise me with a treat from this bakery. He specifically requested gluten-free, and he was told that all of the ingredients were gluten-free, but that, of course, they're not a dedicated bakery, so cross-contamination can occur. That is fine, and my body knows the difference. There was, unquestionably, actual flour ingredients in my dessert because I got sick. On top of being sick with covid and being on steroids (which reduce immune defenses) for breathing and dealing with the impact of that on my health, I now have to worry about my body attacking itself because I have an auto-immune disorder and was given gluten when I was told I wasn't. I actually need my body to fight covid right now, so this matters. If you have Celiac Disease, I definitely don't think this is an option for you. I am gluten-intolerant, and even I got sick. The only thing I can imagine is that maybe the item was rolled out on a floured surface, which concerns me. My husband called and made a request in advance, so I highly doubt I was given an actually fully gluten-containing item. I'm frustrated, at best. I did not even consume half of the item and got sick. Trace amounts do not cause me these reactions. I have no issues with bakeries that choose not to offer gluten-free. I get it. These types of blunders, however, are dangerous. Some of us are not mere fools so misguided as to choose to go gluten-free without a medical need or recommendation to do so. Gluten-free product offerings here - 1 star For those of you who can eat gluten, eat on. 5 stars from what I hear. I found the s'mores bar a bit overly sweet, but that's a mere matter of preference. If you like your desserts really sweet, go for it. If you prefer more rich chocolate flavor, maybe try another offering. I do like the creative incorporation of cheesecake fillings in the cakes, and people seem to really enjoy it. My husband loved the lemon cake. read more

I was able to order same day (just hours before I wanted to pick up) and they had plenty of options. We got Lemon Cake, Almond Cake and Smores bar. I love Lemon Cake and Chocolate and we decided to try the Almond cake on a whim. I do not exaggerate when I say that Almond cake may be the best dessert I have ever had. My wife and I were fighting with our forks over the last bite. That is not to say the lemon cake or smores bar were not good, they were incredible as well but the almond cake was another level. My wife and I both follow them on facebook now and our mouth waters with every new post.
