    S'mores bar didn't stand a chance
    Amy M.

I came here recently and after a whole lot of indecisive pondering, I purchased four different treats to take home. S'mores, Oreo cake, strawberry crunch cake, and raspberry cheesecake bar. There is just SOMETHING about the graham cracker crust they use on the s'mores and the cheesecake bar that is just... better. I can't even put my finger on it, but I was addicted to how crunchy and flavorful the graham cracker crust was. I was a big fan. The cheesecake was soooooo smooth and creamy, and the ganache on the s'mores was fantastic. The Oreo was just okay in my opinion, but I am not the biggest fan of Oreo, I just stole a bite of my kiddos. Sharing is caring. I just found it a little more... crumbly than I like. The flavor was still quite Oreo-esque, it just wasn't for me. The strawberry crunch cake though... I can't even describe how good this one was. The cake texture was PERFECT on this one, the flavor was straight outta childhood - but grownup. It's like my favorite childhood ice cream bar, but with buttercream instead of ice cream. I am a big fan of this one. I can't wait to go back and try more stuff.

If I was to get married tomorrow, the lemon decadence cake would be my wedding cake. I can't even finish writing this sentence without drooling over it. This fluffy, moist, and light cake will make you fall in love (heck, I'd marry the cake if I could). River City Chocolate's website greets you with, "freshly baked perfection." This couldn't be more of an understatement. Freshly baked, heavenly, run don't walk here, I'm still drooling while typing this perfection. This family owned business uses the best quality ingredients. Baking isn't only their passion, but it's their art. There are so many delicious treats to pick from. If you need help deciding, my favorites are the lemon decadence bar (has lemon cheesecake) and the lemon decadence cake (in case you missed it). You'll also want to try their famous s'mores bar. That hand-brûléed swiss meringue on top is everything. It'll be all anyone can talk about at your next bonfire. I love the way they do chocolate here (i.e. brownies and blackout bar). It's decadent and rich, but not too sweet. This is a great spot to get sweets for an event or sweets to treat yourself. They also have a great deal for their gooey and scrumptious cookies! Be sure to check out their Thanksgiving menu (that pumpkin pillow cookie is everything). River City Chocolate is totally worth the trip. If you don't feel like driving out there, you can get your sweets shipped! They ship nationwide so you can "spread the sugar." However, you won't get to meet Ed and his incredible family that way. They're a huge part of the charm of this place. You won't wanna miss River City Chocolate. It's one of the best bakeries in town!

I came here last weekend and I picked up some sweets, and everything was delicious. This place was a little tricky to get to and find, but it was worth it because of the indulgent desserts. I liked that they had some of everything. We got the cheesecake which had a raspberry drizzle on top which added a great flavor. We also had the peanut butter cookie sandwich, which had a delicious peanut butter, butter cream and chocolate drizzled on top! Lastly the Brookie was divine, the brownie was so fudgey, the cookie was chewy, and the Oreos, chocolate buttercream, and chocolate sauce were nice and sweet. Everything was great but it is all very rich so you may not be able to eat it all at once. I'm glad we tried this place out!

I went back because I had to try the lemon cake and boy oh boy it did not disappoint. River City has some of the moistest cakes and it was so flavorful...just melts in your mouth

Wow!!! Every single item was INCREDIBLE! The location is unassuming and in an industrial park. The owner explained the ingredients in the items and you can tell he had a real passion for his art. The service was impeccable. I got a loaded milkshake with peanut butter and Oreos. Probably the best milkshake I've ever had. Super thick and high quality! Almost everything is made from scratch in house!! Words can't describe just how good these desserts are. I got some items to gift to a friend too!! Will be back again! Thank you!!!

The actual storefront is the front of their production kitchen, since they provide desserts for hotels, restaurants, etc. Their chocolate is some of the best and most decadent I've ever had. One of the bakers is a former chocolatier and you can definitely tell. Everyone here is also so kind. They're the type of place you want to come back to not only for enjoying the product but also to support the staff since they're so welcoming and friendly. I've moved to DC but I always have my family pick up some when they come to visit or when I'm back home. My favorites are by far the stacked brookies and the s'mores bar, my roommates love the cheesecake and the cookie sandwiches. No matter what, you can't go wrong.

    Note the gluten free option!

When we told Ed that we drove.a half hour to get there, he worked hard to give us a reason to come back again. It's okay, Ed, we will be back. You were super attentive and knowledgeable, but I will specifically be returning because of the BROOKIE. I am of the opinion that the brookie is hard to perfect: either the cookie or the brownie get overcooked. Not here! It was heavenly. It all was! My husband got the PB pie and my son selected the strawberry crunch cake-- no weak links in this chain. Please note that I received a fresh brookie straight out of the oven. Excellence. Luxury. Marvelous! You could live this life, too! Also note that Ed makes his own peanut butter. (That's unrelated to the brookie but certainly information that demonstrates that he takes good ingredients seriously.) Admittedly I was confused upon arrival because I was expecting chocolates. Like I would be welcomed by a showcase of truffles and fudge... but no stars lost for my lack of research! We will be there again. Maybe soon. Maybe this weekend?

First time at RCC and it won't be the last! The owner was so helpful. We bought an assortment of cake, cheesecakes and other hand held sweets. We had 9 for dinner and each one had their own favorite. If you are looking for unique treats, try this place out. Also, it's a local small business.

The desserts and the milkshakes are delicious! The service was very fast and the cashier was very attentive to out needs. The ambiance was quiet but then again we came on a Sunday and it was pretty hard to find the place. But overall, you should definitely check them out.

Good food and service the ambiance is a counter with no seating so be prepared to take your dessert to-go! The milkshakes were legit tho.

If you're looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth, River City Chocolate is the place for you! We have actually used them on separate occasions such as a baby shower and a birthday party, their treats left a great impression among guests! Ed takes pride in his work and is super easy to work with, his desserts meets well beyond your expectations. Their award winning signature S'mores is a must try! Not to mention, their brookies! Brownies and cookies? That's the best of both worlds and they certainly knock it out of the park with their layered recipe. Their ratio of this harmonious union of two classic desserts is perfect. You do not get overwhelmed by one or the other in this concoction. It is moist and delicious! As of this time, River City Chocolate is preparing to launch for pick up and delivery. I signed up for their mailing list for updates and was selected in a random drawing to taste some unreleased treats. It would be an understatement to say how amazing they tasted, it was quite a delicious experience that has me waiting for more.

River City Chocolates in midlothian has done it again! If you have not gone to this dessert spot in the middle of an industrial park you are missing out! We had the rainbow cake and the strawberry crunch cake, y'all it was only $5 during their happy hour and only a little bit more normally! The cake was so soft and moist without being too sweet. It was the perfect balance of cake and ganache and filling making for a delicious on site freshly baked treat. River City chocolates, Ed you sir are a gem thanks for making my cake dreams complete! Y'All treat yourself you won't regret it

This has to be some of the best desserts I have ever tried. After trying their cookies at a neighborhood event, we ordered some cake to be delivered during a neighborhood drop off. Not only is the cake freaking amazing but the owner is so kind and went out of his way to take our late order even going as far to accommodate us by creating a special tart. 2020 has not been an easy year for anyone and I choose wisely when spending my money. If want to support a local business that is passionate and just amazing at what they do, do not hesitate to support River city chocolate!

The ambiance was clean and orderly. Upon entering, you grab a serving tray lined with parchment and some tongs. The items are in a glass enclosed display that you have to open and place your selections on your tray for purchase. I settled on the pistachio cream filled pecan pastry, the almond twist, and strawberry shortcake. The beverage menu was extensive: matcha, flavored teas, cocoa, espresso/coffee, and more. We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist. All were fresh. All in all, a great place to stop by for a morning pastry treat and tea/coffee while in the area,
