In my entire stay of Italy, my friends and I still talk about this restaurant to this day. That's just how amazing the food was. If people were to ask what restaurants I'd 100% recommend, it would be Cleto. We stumbled upon Cleto trying to get something to eat. Actually, a lot of Italians try to convince you to eat at their restaurant and this one definitely convinced us. The owner kept saying, "food no good, no pay. Food no good, no pay." So we said why not. He recommended the Penne ai 7 Peccati (7 sins penne) and we got the mussels. When I say I can't stop thinking about this meal, I mean I tell people that this was possibly THE BEST meal I've had in Rome. And it's just minutes away from the colosseum. Just walking distance. Mussels Let me just say, I couldn't stop saying how these were the BEST mussels I've had in my entire life. They were decent sized and they were sitting in this juice of whatever delicious concoction it was. The bread that sat on top soaked up the juice and man oh man it was out of this world. I think about it all the time. Penne ai 7 Peccati (7 sins penne) Oooohhhweeeee there's so many hole in the wall places, and not many can compare to this dish that I had. The pasta was so good, it was the right amount of al dente you think you'd like, and the flavors were so good, even you being so full couldn't make you full. Just one more bite. Peach Bellini Wow oh wow it couldn't get any better. From food to drinks, this was so good. If you like a good peach Bellini, I highly recommend! This was some of the best pasta I've ever had! This was a quaint little spot along an alley. Indoor and outdoor dining. Very cute! I had the seafood pasta and it was amazing. Our AirBNB host recommended Ristroante Cleto to us and we are so glad we stopped by. When we showed up, there were only a few seats left and they filled up quickly. Once we had our food, we could see why. I ordered the house special 7 ingredient pasta (7 Sins). The sauce was so creamy and decadent, but without being too rich. The pieces of crisp bacon balanced the sauce perfectly. My wife ordered the cacio e pepe. She loved the creamy sauce and thought the large tube pasta choice was an interesting departure from the typical long noodle choice. The owner, Giuseppe, was milling around interacting with guests. He was accommodating, helpful, and fun to chat with. He recommended wines for us that went perfectly with the meal. Lastly, the seating area outside is just large enough to give you the sense of sitting with others enjoying a meal without being too busy or crowded. The service was awful. The people next to me left because of how bad the service was it took them over 30 minutes to get their drinks. It took the three of us not that long to get our food. But the 4th person in are group waited 30 minutes after ours arrived. food was subpar. They threw his food on the grill and rushed it when they realized they forgot.They were very rude when we asked for the check and didn't come back to the table once during the meal so I ran out of water I could not get a refill would not recommend .the right amount of bees. We came in for a late dinner. Was given a dirty table by the first waiter who seemed a little grumpy. We moved to a clean one and got the friendly waiter. However, we were give paper napkins while everyone else had cloth. Me: Maybe they were washing more But then another couple, who looked like tourists were given paper napkins as well. WTF??? Good house wine though. The partner's prosciutto pizza was good. My diavola crust could've been cooked longer. The meal was decent but the atmosphere was damaged by the waiter's attitude. He: Are you done? Dang right I'm done. Can't wait to get away from here. If the grumpy waiter thought I was leaving extra euros, he was mistaken. Paid in cash and just left without saying "grazie." They have a cute patio off the Main Street in an alley way and were quite busy so we decided to stop in for a quick lunch. The servers do not all speak English so we thought it'd be pretty authentic Italian food. I got the mushroom pasta and it was ok - the Mushrooms tasted mushy like canned Mushrooms and the sauce tasted like salt. The same with the seafood pasta - it tasted just salty with the seafood. We also ordered French fries and they kept telling us it'll be ready in a minute and they just forgot. 15-20 minutes later we decided to just cancel cause they still haven't started the order and we had already finished our meals. They decided to bring the fries anyway on the house. Overall not good food and slow service. read more

Get ready. This place gets busy but you'll understand why. My dish was a delicious Fettuccine al Funghi Porcini and my boyfriend got a very generous portion of Mostaccioli pasta with bacon and cheese. The service was was great, too! For those wanting to sit inside, you're in the clear. If you want to sit outside, make sure you're not claustrophobic or completely antisocial. It's not the norm to sit two people in a table of four simply because almost all the restaurants are small. It's understandable. Don't let that scare you, though. I tried the 7 sins pasta, seafood risotto, and cold assorted appetizer plate. Overall the food tasted great, but I found the food to be too rich which is why I gave it 4 stars. I was hoping for a more traditional touch with a lighter sauce. I am comparing this to another traditional Roman restaurant experience I had.The serving portions are huge and great for sharing! Stoping at Cleto was a spontaneous decision in search of a cute side street quick lunch. Come here for the food and charming Italian staff. We had the pleasure of meeting the Owner/Chef and he recommended some of his own creations of pasta dishes. There's a few but we took his recommendations for the Ravioli and the 7 Sins. Both fantastic! The ravioli was delicate and light. The orange zest gave it a very fresh taste. The 7 Sins was small pasta with a lot of flavor. This is place is beyond good! We were introduced to it by the tour guides who's office is in front of the restaurant. We had the pasta with seafood and the 7 sins pasta who the owner mentioned he created and it was delicious! What a wonderful surprise. This restaurant is around the corner from the Coleseum and is a special place to dine for lunch. It was a hot day and we decided to eat in the air conditioned dining room. But the outdoor dining area was also a popular place to dine. It is clear that this is neighborhood family restaurant. Many of the diners were familiar with the waiters and the atmosphere was friendly, laid back, and comfortable. We shared a delicious pizza, plenty of mineral water, my husband had a beer, and I enjoyed a glass of Chianti (22,00 Euros). This place was right around the corner from where we were staying in Rome. We were looking for a small place with local flavor just like this when we walked by. We were seated outside at a very comfortable table and the owner came by to tell us about his food. The great thing about this ristorante is that the food was created by the owner, not to be traditional, but to be creative and authentic. That is what we look for when we travel, authentic local flavor. Anyone can copy and make the standards, but Cleto's goes that one step further and it is delicious. 3.75 stars based on a single visit. We had a late lunch at an odd hour, and felt lucky they weren't closed. Our waiter was an elderly gentleman who looks like he takes no guff, but had enough humor to figure out my attempts at Italian to take our order (there were two younger folks who spoke great english too). We really enjoyed the mixed bruschetta - but would be hard pressed to tell you what all of the toppings were. The typical olive oil and wonderful tomatoes, an artichoke spread, perhaps an olive tapenade, and we're guessing the last one was a liver pate' of some sort. The hubs got a salmon fettuccine, whereas I opted for the fish fettuccine (seafood is their specialty). Perhaps the menu said "seafood" fettuccine, and not "fish", but the dish has mussels, clams, calamari, perhaps some octopus (again, not sure on that one), in a simple white wine sauce. Be sure you like mussels if you order this one, as the dish tastes strongly of it - but the flavors were clean, and the seafood fresh. We both loved the sauce on his fettuccine - a salmon cream sauce with bits/flakes of salmon in it. Finished the whole deal off with espresso, and we were happy as clams... The atmosphere seems more old-school / homey / casual, and I would recommend it to friends visiting the Forum / Colosseum area. read more
