Eclair
Sonya H.

Absolutely incredible gluten-free bakery located in the heart of Adams Morgan. This cute little shop may look unassuming from the outside, but they're home to some of the most talented baking magicians who've somehow managed to craft DC's best gluten-free pastries that somehow have all the textures and flavors of their gluten-having cousins. I dropped by Rise Bakery pretty late on a Sunday afternoon, so they had already sold out of a bunch of things. The staff was super friendly and noted that customers should try to arrive before 10 AM on the weekends if there's something specific they want since Rise tends to sell out of their popular items pretty quickly. At the staff's recommendation, I decided to get the chocolate eclair, which was both phenomenal and massive. The choux pastry was super light and airy and had the signature firm, slightly crisp outer shell. That shell served as the perfect canvas for the melted chocolate, and the chocolate ganache inside the eclair was rich, creamy, and decadent. The eclair was probably double the size of a standard eclair, and I was thoroughly impressed by how well it had come together -- eclairs are hard enough to make when you're using normal flour, but this was super impressive and didn't taste like it was gluten-free at all.

Cannoli (Gluten Free)

Whenever I am in DC Rise Bakery is a must stop! This time I was fortunate to DoorDash lunch since there weren't any accessible gluten free meal options. This 100% gluten free bakery offers pastries, breads, and baked goods alongside breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They are always attentive to orders and quick in preparation. This time I ordered the Chipotle classic for lunch, a cannoli for dessert, and a chocolate croissant for the next day's breakfast. Everything was incredible!

I saw the bakery sign while walking down the street and was so excited when i saw that everything was gluten free! I haven't indulged in any sweets or pastries in years because of gluten & cried tears of happiness after my first bite! Absolutely delicious! Not the usual "It was okay, but you can tell its gluten free..." , I can serve these to my family and they wouldn't be able to tell it didn't have gluten. Everything I ordered was amazing and I'll be returning for all of our family birthday cakes so I can be included in celebrations too!

The delicious gingerbread cookies.

Finding delicious gluten free bakery items is like finding buried treasure, under the sea. They are rare gems and I am glad to help spread the word, when you strike treasure. Last night, I tasted the gingerbread cookies and Yule log from Rise Bakery. I would have never known they were gluten free. The gingerbread cookies were adorable and tasted great. The Yule log was beautifully crafted and a show piece. It tasted just as delicious, as it looked. Service was great. We ordered ahead and it was ready and waiting for us. The place is cute and clean. I would highly recommend this bakery if you want gluten free items, that are tempting and tasted great.

Oh Rise. How I love you so. The absolute freeing feeling being able to grab a quick lunch with my kid (her and I both have allergies) there's just no words. Easily can order online, and be on our way. My kid isn't a big sandwich fan but does enjoy them from here! Don't forget a vanilla donut.

With tons of gluten free pastries and sandwiches, what's not to love? The place is on a gorgeous street in DC with a beautiful ambiance. The bakery is on the second floor, up some stairs, where you will be met with a quaint seating area. The wait can be long at times because of how popular it is, but it's worth it. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about allergies. The menu is thorough on its ingredients. Definitely my go to spot for gluten free foods!

Mango Lush Bar (Gluten Free)

I've gone here quite a few times to experience the joy of a FULL GLUTEN FREE MENU! Pictured is the mango lush bar (a little small but SO GOOD!!!!!) but I've also tried a cannoli, a carrot cake cupcake, a ginger molasses cookie...I think that's it? I will definitely come back. The storefront itself has two two-person tables so it's pretty small, but takeout is always an option.

Amazing!!! I had a day off during a work trip and spent the entire day going back and forth between Rise & a nearby coffee shop to work. My only wish is that they had wifi or a larger seating area to be able to hang out there! I had a bagel sandwich for breakfast which was amazing - fresh, a bit crunchy, and flavorful - I didn't love the square eggs, but I know many places mass prepare eggs in that way for sandwiches. I came back for lunch and got an amazing sandwich, plus some sweets to go. The donut, croissant, and cupcake were all delicious! An amazing gluten free find in DC.

Smoked ham and Gruyére Panini

Totally amazing gluten-free! This is my first time visiting, and I am blown away by how delicious everything is. My husband and I split a smoked ham and Gruyère panini, and a ham and cheese croissant. Both were equally delicious. We couldn't choose a favorite. We got the oatmeal cherry cookie, the eclair, almond croissants and a chocolate croissant. The croissants are among their most popular items, and we can see why. We also got bagels, brioche buns, and rye bread to go. We are making corned beef Rachel's for St. Patrick's Day, and I'm so pleased to find gf rye bread. We will definitely be coming back!

Cannoli (Gluten Free)
Sophia U.

I'm a symptomatic Celiac and Rise Bakery is my ultimate dream! Seriously, I've been gluten free for 13 years, and it's such a joyous relief to go somewhere where you don't have to ask questions or worry about cross contamination. Everyone who works here is kind and welcoming. I giggled over some celiac books (pictured--wish I bought them!). I ordered a chocolate croissant, a cannoli, and a pack of jalapeño cheddar buns. The former two were delicious, as expected, the dough on the croissant in particular being flakery and buttery. I have yet to try the buns, but they look divine, and I'm excited to toast them and use them for burgers! Overall, I can't recommend this place enough. Wish I lived closer!

I noticed that they did not have a Yelp waitlist, so we ended up winging it and showing up. It was a very tricky drive because of the traffic in downtown Georgetown. However, we were able to find an underground parking garage across the street from Il Canale for $23 all night until 11p. When we walked up, there is another Italian restaurant next-door called Flavio. Flavio had a lot of availability, but Il Canal had barely any availability. The street is lined with patio seating and they have some inside dining options as well. Il Canale's patio dining was packed, as well as the restaurant. When it was our turn to greet the host he asked if we had a reservation which we did not. There was a table outside available right away but we prefer dining inside. That was OK because we were told that we could have an inside table but that we would have to wait a few minutes. After about 10 minutes of waiting, they were nice enough to get us a wonderful seat inside. Inside is beautiful. The decor is awesome. There are also posters and photos with celebrities who have visited and dined here. I was impressed that Kevin Hart, President Barack Obama, and many others have dined here. The place is authentic and it reminds me of our home town San Diego Garage Buona Forchetta or Golden Hill Buona Forchetta. The staff speaks Italian, and the plated food is on beautiful Italian Artistic ceramic plates and bowls. This is such an nice touch and adds to the positive experience. Matthew was our server and he is very professional and customer service oriented. We will definitely return because of Matthew's customer service! Tonight our wonderful server, Matthew, gave us the specials. They had authentic Italian truffle pizza and an authentic Italian truffle pasta dish option. We were super excited about this. We ordered: 1 Focaccia Bread for table (came standard with olive oil and balsamic), Arancini (Deep fried cheesy risotto balls stuffed with meat) Balls (3 large), 1 Authentic Italian Truffle Pizza, 1 Gnocchi Pomodoro, and 1 Ravioli Al Porcini. For beverages: San Pelegrino Orange Italian Soda and 1 Pepsi. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! The ravioli and gnocchi sauces were a bit salty but it was still very flavorful enjoyable. For dessert we had a pistachio cannoli. It was my daughter's first time having cannoli. The CANNOLI IS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! What a wonderful dining experience! Thank you Il Canale! We will mark you down as our favorite Italian Restaurant when we are in DC. Our previous restaurant, Nicolette, closed some years ago ans we have been searching for a new spot. Matthew deserves 5 stars himself for his awesome customer service.

I came here once on a rainy day without a reservation expecting it to be empty and it was quite the opposite, so this time I was prepared. As soon as my friend and I walked in, a server greeted us right away, helped us switch to an indoor booth, and ran through the daily special - with the kind of easy confidence you only get at a place that's been serving quality food like clockwork. The decor offers an artisanal vibe, almost like an Irish pub that's been polished up but still lived‑in. We started with the Hawaiian chicken appetizer, which was a standout dish: sweet, savory, and actually balanced. For the entrée, I went with the chicken parm, and it was extremely filling. I enjoyed the crispy breading and pasta. Definitely satisfying, and I'll be back to try the bread pudding soon. A couple of things that take away one star for me, personally: 1) I would recommend adding additional vegetarian options to the menu, 2) The noise and minimal space is a bit overwhelming on the senses. Even the bagels on their own are excellent, particularly the sesame, which has the proper chew and flavour one hopes for. The Georgetown location is also ridiculously charming.
