Someone suggested reaching out to Kristian Middlebrook at Ring's End to help me select paint colors. It was great, since he comes to your house and sees the space--something that's so important. The Fairfield Rings End is wonderful because of their staff. Fernando is incredible at what he does and I always try and find him first whenever I need help with something. Rings End is a huge chain of hardware stores and building supplies and I find they go above and beyond sooooo much in comparison with Home Depot, Wallauers, etc. They have everything you need, especially at their flagship store in Darien, CT. The Fairfield location does have a ton of supplies but its much smaller with less options. However, this location has all the painting/wallpaper essentials you need. Fortunately I am in the painting business so this location has just what Im looking for. I really like coming here for the expertise more than anything. I know that if I need a color matched, Fernando and his team get it closer than anyone else. I cant say enough good things about the staff, cleanliness, and organization of this location but I do wish it was bigger with more of a variety of tools and equipment. I purchased hard to find Romabio Masonary Paint all the way from California! The only other placed I could find it is Amazon and I much prefer shopping from a small business. Krystel helped me and she was exceptional. Very knowledgeable, kind, and answered all my questions. She calculated the amount of paint I would need for my project. Krystel also sent me detail information about how to use the paint I purchased. In today's world of impersonal large box stores, or Amazon, how wonderful to find a company like Rings End. My husband and I had the most amazing Ring's End experience working with their color expert/decorator, Kristian Middlebrook. After staring at a table full of paint chips for far too long, I found out that for a small/reasonable fee, their paint color expert, Kristian, can come to your home and help you pick paint colors. He is a gem with excellent taste and ideas, and lovely to work with! Not only did he help me through the pain of choosing a beautiful white for us (the hardest color to pick as there are so many possibilities and ways to go wrong), but he also made many great suggestions big and small for colors/ways to enhance our home that we never would have thought of on our own. (For example, using a slightly different shade on our entryway wall than the rest of the color we have -- this makes it pop!). His color choices came out beautifully, and we look forward to working with him again on our window treatments via Rings End. Run, don't walk, to work with Kristian -- he is a gem! read more

A few months ago, I had a five-star experience at Ring's End. A lovely woman in the design area helped me review some color options for my dining room. I had some ideas in mind, but she also made some great recommendations. I left with a number of samples to try and went back once I had selected the color I liked best. I went back today because I had a few small cans with some paint left. A gentleman at another store informed me that stores are supposed to take back unused paints. I waited my turn and when I was next, the clerk behind the counter quickly told me that Ring's End does not take back paint for recycling. I told him I thought that it was a mandated. He told me to go to the Paintcare website and said there are a few places that do take unused paint back - none of them are Ring's End. Apparently they sell the paint, but won't take it back. I told the guy that I would be buying from now at places that take back back cans and he told me to go ahead and do that. He did offer to take empty cans, but none of mine were empty. That's the whole point of returning cans of paint, so they don't end up in the landfill ruining our environment. With locations in Fairfield, Darien, Westport and Wilton and beyond, Ring's End is certainly doing a good business and should do the responsible thing and participate in the paintcare program. For now, I will shop at a store that does. Even more concerning were the social distancing practices, or lack thereof at this location. There are signs when you walk in the store in English and Spanish that masks are required. There are even more all over the store. All the customers I saw had masks on as did most of the staff. There was a staff member, however, who did not have a mask on. She was walking throughout the store, talking to customers, and not keeping a safe distance. It's one thing that Ring's End doesn't do the environmentally responsible thing and recycle unused paint, but it is far more concerning that it has an employee not observing the CDC's and its own posted guidelines in the middle of a pandemic. It's a good thing I had great service on my first visit. That visit was worth five stars, today's was worth one. I hope things change here for everyone's sake. PS I was pleasantly surprised to receive a quick response to this review. I was told that Ring's End will again be participating in the paint care program and employees are mandated to wear masks at all times. I was very impressed with the timely response from Ring's End management. Having worked in service roles I know that mistakes are sometimes made and not every encounter is positive, but what matters is the response and whether any problems are addressed. Ring's End proved themselves on both counts and I have upgraded my starred review based on that. Thank you, Ring's End for doing the right thing. read more
