I was looking for a replacement lid for me aquarium and these guys were the nicest to deal with. Home Depot was like $38 which was way out of my budget and Tractor Supply didn't do it. The store itself is like a Mom & Pop shop from the 1970's but what a variety they have. The guys working in there are very nice too. Standouts were Jason and the guy that cut the Plexiglass for me Chris. I was quoted a price of $11.99 on the phone and was only charged $6 dollars. Very happy!!!!!! A+++++++++++++++++ all the way. We have visited this hardware store now multiple times and this last experience, was over the top with customer service. Our first visit was lackluster and the older gentleman who checked us out was not friendly or helpful. The last two times were with a kind lady, her name might be Heidi. She really went out of her way to help us and we observed her simultaneously assisting others with ease. She remembered we had recently moved to Trumbull and were making positive changes to our home like paint, cleaning, etc., and recommended several items. I have been going to this location for over 40 years. Prior to becoming Aubuchon, it was known as Stepney hardware. Used them for the business I ran and had corporate account with Stepney. After the acquisition I went into the store and was met by a store employee. I asked about the old owner who worked there during the transition. He proceeded to bad mouth David, and I walked out. The next time I went in I told another employee about it and he said he would talk to him. Not good for business. That all being said, I went in today and purchased 3 gallons of paint. I asked the guy who was going to mix it if I would still be able to get my contractors discount and he said Michael would know how to ring it up. I got this discount because I would tell any of the contractors, I hired to buy paint from Stepney Hardware. There is another store in Shelton when most painters go. I always supplied the paint from Stepney if the contractor did not use them. That being said the store manager Michael comes up to me and tells me that the policy had changed, and they no longer give discounts to non-licensed contractors. I understand this from a business perspective. Since the would not give me the discount I left the paint there and went to Shelton and got the contractor discount. Sorry you had to eat the paint that was mixed but I should have been told that they had to check on the price when I told the fellow prior to it being mixed. read more
