I still shop here and still get great customer service every time I walk in the door. It doesn't matter if I'm getting keys, propane, or something else for a project. I have been there at least 100 times. They are locally American owned and that is important especially in today's world. Goody's hardware is a great value and member of the local community. Remember it's the locally owned businesses that sponsor local events and local youth sports teams 95+% of the time. No, they are not nor have I ever had them be the sponsor of any team I or my kids have been on, just to be clear for the naysayers. read more

I bought a Craftsman snow blower there. It broke down after 3 uses. When I called for service, they sent a guy who insisted it was my fault and told me to repair it I should hold a piece of wood over the shaft and whack it with a hammer to realign it. I continue to call and they finally came to pick it up for repair on Dec. 16. I called for a progress report a week later and was told by Michael that they were waiting for parts. On Jan. 9, Michael called me and told me their repairman was unqualified to repair it and they don't do repairs anyway, just sales. They then sent it to a certified repair shop. It came back a week later. Michael offered to have it delivered it to my home for $50, I declined and said I would come by and pick it up myself. When I arrived Michael said I should tip the delivery drivers for all they did for me. I again declined and just paid the repair bill. Michael then told me that nobody would help me put it on my pickup truck unless I paid them $20. So they had my snowblower for 25 days for repair when they don't do repairs and then blackmailed me for $20 to put it on my truck. Then Michael told me I was banned from his store and never to come back, as if I ever would after all this. The worst service I ever had anywhere. There was a good selection or merchandise there. Prior to the snowblower I bought a Weber Grill and lots of gardening tools. Too bad they treat customers so poorly, I would have done a lot more business there. read more

I like to give my business to smaller local friendly stores ,however this was my second and LAST visit to this East Haven location! The first visit I needed new keys made the man barely acknowledged me and when I asked a simple question he spoke in a condescending manner and was rude. Second visit, I hoped would be better, it was not! They were once again condescending, rude and basically rushed me along- and as I was being rushed I clearly heard the male employee behind the counter swear and comment to the other male I asked too many questions! If you're in the area and need something, skip the big box store that's ALL the way across the freeway - and come visit these fine folks. They're not only SUPER nice, they're knowledgeable and have just about anything you need. If they don't? They can get it for you. We regularly visit for propane tank fills, but have also stopped for other items. Recently we dropped by because we were looking for a new grill - we know they have a HUGE selection of Webers, and wanted to see if they had the one we'd been looking at online. To be honest, I didn't even give him an amount I wanted to beat. I just asked if they had the particular model we'd been looking at - they did. And then, when I mentioned we were looking at it online...he says, "I'll give you $200 off right now...or tomorrow." You BET we took the deal! A couple days later, this beautiful unit was delivered - assembled and perfect. So yeah...do the "big stores" have lots of stuff? Yes. Can they give you great prices? On a lot of things, sure. But when you can, go local - and if you're in the area, hit up Goody's. There are lots of 'big box' stores...but keeping the little guys going is good for all of us. They're family run - and their attention to great service? That's something you can't get elsewhere. read more

That just doesn't happen at Goody's and they are worth the drive. This place has 5 stars from so many Yelpers for a reason - when it comes to local hardware stores, it really is as good as it gets. I visited recently on a Sunday morning to pick up some odds and ends that I needed. The place was buzzing with activity with plenty of customers being helped out by the friendly staff at Goody's. I was asked several times by different employees if I needed help finding anything while I was there, which I took as a mark of excellent customer service. The aisles were narrow but well-organized and easy-to-navigate. It was a much better experience than trying to wander through a warehouse looking for what I need, only to find that I'm across the store from where I need to be. With its convenient location, friendly employees, and well-stocked and organized store, I will definitely be revisiting Goody's for my home improvement needs! read more

Great family owned hardware store. If you're like me, and need strong guidance to buy anything mechanical, this is the store for you. Each and every department has an expert who is there to help you buy the right part. Pam in the paint departments is really friendly and knows her stuff. This place used to offer good customer service, unfortunately that has all changed. I went in this morning looking for bags of sand and sockets but couldn't find any assistance for over 15 minutes. Here's what I like about this place.....Everything!!! Old school service, they know everything and seem to have every obscure repair part for anything around the house. I like that when you walk in the door with a broken part in your hand they know immediately what you need to fix it. Prices are competitive, not the cheapest but it's worth it not having to wander around a big box store for 45 minutes. read more

The guys over at Goody's are fantastic! Living right down the street from Goody's is a blessing. Being a 10-or-more minute drive from the closest chain hardware-warehouse, Goody's has bailed me out on more than one occasion. I am the type of person who takes on projects on a whim, and then doesn't make sure they have all the stuff to do it before beginning. More times that I can count, I've gotten "bright ideas," only to make a quick run to Goody's to grab a little something to help me out. And the employees there are fantastic. They are so helpful, but without being super pushy like you find in many small retail stores. They don't breath down your neck, but they are always around and more than willing to answer your questions, give advice, and joke around with you. AND their prices are comparable to the big stores, so unless you're making huuuuge home improvements, Goody's is your place. I give them five stars! read more

I was looking for something specific that my dad told me "Goodies will have it!". Sure enough they had it. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted. Asked the man to assist me to find what I needed, because I have never been there before- and he brought me right to what I needed. I have to say the reason for the 4 star and not the 5 is because this place is a walking disaster!!! Every single aisle is filled with obstacles- no aisle is clear. It is like walking through a department store that 5 yr olds decided to have a field day in- taking everything and throwing it everywhere!!! I ended up walking around all of the obstacles, and then going to the paint department. A younger guy cleaning the floors asked me if I needed help- and immediately sent the "paint guy" over to assist me. Overall good experience customer service wise, the store legit has everything you can ever look for, but they really need to clean up the aisles. read more

I started using this place some 10 years ago on the recommendation of business colleagues, and IMO the quality of service has declined steadily since. After the experience I had today, I will never go back again. I entered the store and went to the front register to request an exchange. The clerk (identified on the receipt as the assistant manager) came over and simply stared at me. No "hi" or "how can I help you"? Anyway, I told the clerk I needed to swap or possibly return my item. He nonchalantly said "ok", took my item and turned away. No offer to help whatsoever. At checkout, same thing. Started with a stare and me requesting a return. When I signed the screen to have the money put back on my card, I apparently made the mistake of placing the pen flat in the holder; the clerk immediately turned the pen vertical - as if it weren't electronic and had ink in it. He handed me the receipt and turned to the next customer. Never said a word. It was the worst service I've ever had anywhere. The whole reason I kept patronizing Goody's is because I like to give small, local companies the business. In fact, I moved from East Haven some 7 years ago and still made the 25-minute one-way trek to Goody's. Over time, IMO, some employees seem edgy, gruff. The place is small and the aisles are narrow, as well. Today was the final visit for me. It's just not worth the time and aggravation. read more

Great old fashioned hardware store with everything under the sun in stock and people to help you as soon as you walk in. My only beef is that they refill propane which is great but not charging by the pound/gallon and only charging with a fixed price(10-15$) it makes it so you feel like you need to run out first before bringing it in. Dropped by Goody's this weekend to pick out paint for our apartment. Pam at the paint counter was incredibly helpful and patient. She looked at photos of our home and helped us pick colors that worked with our apartment. She gave us advice on brushes, rollers, etc. and we never felt rushed (despite using up a lot of her time!). Always go to them first. Dan, Mark, and the guys know everything about everything, and are always prompt to greet and help you. I didn't know which smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to get, but Mark helped me figure it all out, and with simple, but detailed explanations of my choices.
