I contacted Springhill Hardware and spoke with Frank and asked if they sold Weber grills and if they would be able to deliver it assembled. I live in Virginia and my mom lives in Hamden and my brother and I wanted to get her a new grill because her grill was falling apart and not working properly. My brother had cooked on the grill this summer and it took forever to cook the chicken. I call the hardware store and worked with Frank, who was awesome and understood my request for the grill to be assembled and delivered. Frank delivered the grill to my mother as part of an early Xmas gift and she was very excited to finally have a new grill. I would highly recommend Springhill Hardware over the big box hardware stores. It was a great feeling to support a local resident and business that has been there since I was growing up in Hamden in the 70s. read more

When I bought my snow blower here, Frank delivered it to my house free of charge, showed me how to operate the machine, and made sure Everything was OK before he left. He did the same thing when I bought my lawn more. If you need some thing they don't have, they will always make recommendations. Love this place. Love the feel, love the location, the people, the products, the smell! This place is TIGHT, and it's packed to the gills- so don't hesitate to ask them for help finding stuff. I just usually go up to the counter, wait for one of them to become free, and they'll ask me what I'm looking for and take me there. I'm so glad that they survived the giant Walmart-mentality superstores that moved in around them over the years. I go here when I can, rather than the big superstores. Even if they don't have "everything", and they don't have a website to check inventory bla bla bla- it's NOT about that. Many people might be nostalgic about this place- I'm not (even though it's been there most of my life)- I just like them. Many will say "bygone era"... I don't. In a land of neighborhood hardware stores being few and far between, we have happened upon a classically fantastic one. Spring Glenn Hardware and Appliance has just about everything hardware related you could possibly need and much more. We went in hoping for a 15 watt candelabra lightbulb, which they carried! I had, beforehand, done a bit of a run-around to local big box stores trying to find one to no avail. There was so much to see, I was compelled to explore the shelves and walls. Every and anything you never thought you needed, but do. A good portion of the store (about 1/4) is dedicated to kitchenware and household products. Considering the number and variety of wares Spring Glen Hardware and Appliance carries, everything is so well organized and impressively neat. In addition to the lightbulb, we ended up leaving with clips for the repair of our front screen door. For as little as they cost, we were assured that we could return them if they didn't work out. They worked perfectly. The prices seem right. The two staff members were friendly and ready to answer any questions we had. Spring Glenn Hardware and Appliance does appliance repairs as well as shoe repairs. I could consider Spring Glen Hardware a tourist attraction and would recommend a visit to anyone in or passing through the Spring Glenn area wanting a treat. read more

I am not normally someone who goes on these rants. I completely understand things happen. We just had a bad snow storm this week. Believe me I get it, but there is no excuse for this situation. The storm was expected on Wednesday evening. I went to prep my snowblower on Sunday and it was not running properly. My dad passed away this year. He brought the snowblower to Spring Glen for years for maintenance. Knowing there was a big storm coming up, I was fully aware there was no chance the blower would be fixed before Wednesday. Totally fine, I needed it looked at regardless. I called Spring Glen on Monday and spoke to Frank. I explained the situation and was immediately replied with an unfriendly and demeaning tone. "Well you're going to have to bring it here." "No we only do pick ups on Saturday." "What do you mean do we change oil and gasoline?" "What kind of snowblower even is it? Do you know?" I'm a woman.. but I'm not an idiot. I told him it was a Toro and again, my dad has been bringing it there for years. "You are the first on my list for Saturday. I will be there between 9-10," he said. He took down my name, phone number, and address. I was not happy after this conversation but I needed the service. Fast forward to Saturday, it is now 10:20 and nothing. Again, I understand things happen and maybe he got caught up with something. I called the store to make sure they didn't forget. I said, "Hello someone was supposed to be at my house between 9-10 this morning to pick up my snowblower..." He interrupts me and says, "Yeah that's just not gonna happen we got swamped from the storm." I could tell by the voice it was Frank. My blood was BOILING. After waiting around for an hour and a half now, I am appalled that a highly recommended business could not even have the decency to make a phone call to a customer letting them know that you aren't able to make it. UNbelievable. I'm speechless. He then says, "It won't be for at least another week or two." Not wanting to go off, I respond with "nevermind" and hang up the phone. I am astounded that a small business would treat a customer this way, let alone a small business during a pandemic. read more

A gem in Spring Glen. I am so glad I live within walking distance - walk the mower and snow blower for tune ups. And it's like having a store of your best Uncles who will help you solve home problems. I've literally had them spend 15 minutes with me to come up with the perfect solution that involved a 63 cent purchase! They have everything from garden supplies to silver polish to screen and shoe repair. And if you don't see it they will likely order it - ladders, grills, etc. The store and the whole crew is fantastic. read more

We brought our minimally used lawn mower here for a repair when it suddenly stopped working. Frank walked us through on the phone and in person what possible problems were and costs before we even dropped it off. Had to wait a little, but we knew that going in (he's good so he's busy). He called us with problem and was so kind about options. He was very honest, which meant for us that the mower was unable to be repaired. He's an authorized repair person, so he understood warranty coverage, etc. He ended up not even charging us for diagnosing the problem. Would definitely use him again and will recommend him for repairs to others. read more

A real full-service, classic hardware store that gives fine value to boot. Friendly and patient in answering questions, if they don't have what you're looking for they'll do their best to get it for you quickly (and in the quantity you need, rather than the mega-sized packages of the big home stores). Great in doing repairs of glass doors and screens (and shoes!). Very competitive prices on a number of items -- we bought a Weber gas grill this summer at the same price Home Depot and Lowe's were asking, AND Spring Glen Hardware not only assembled but delivered it without additional charge. I am always a sucker for convenience, I must say, so having this locally-owned hardware store around the corner from my new home was a very pleasant perk. Then, when I actually visited, I could not believe all of the different items they cram into this little shop! We've bought everything from a can opener to watering can to extension cords. The owners are always offering to help as soon as you walk in the door, and they are incredibly knowledgable. When my dad (huge do-it-yourselfer) visited from the midwest, he was completely smitten with their friendliness and genuine attention to service. One mid-project disaster forced us to head over to Home Depot since it was late into the night, and we were even more please to find that Spring Glen Hardware has very competitive prices (I don't know how they do it!). read more

Spring Glen Hardware is a small store from the outside, but has almost everything you'll ever need. I absolutely love Spring Glen Hardware. They have -- or will get -- everything you need, but it's like stepping back into another era in terms of service. When you walk in, they'll ask right away what you need, and will help you find it directly on their shelves. If you don't really know what you need (often the case for me), they're incredibly patient with descriptions of what you're trying to do, and will help you identify just what it is that will serve your needs best. And despite the incredible service, the prices seem comparable to the big places. They also do shoe repair (haven't used this service yet) and some glass work. We brought a door with glass panels, one of which had broken, down to be fixed, and they did a beautiful job. It's also the most wonderful place to just poke around and see what they have -- there's a bit of everything, so there have been numerous times when I've gone for one thing, and have found two other things I was expected to have to go elsewhere to find. As a kid, I never understood why my parents thought hardware stores were interesting places; when we moved here, I visited Spring Glen Hardware and realized the kind of hardware store they had in mind -- and suddenly it all made sense! read more
