I live in Virginia and my mom lives in Hamden and my brother and I wanted to get her a new grill because her grill was falling apart and not working properly. My brother had cooked on the grill this summer and it took forever to cook the chicken. I call the hardware store and worked with Frank, who was awesome and understood my request for the grill to be assembled and delivered. Frank delivered the grill to my mother as part of an early Xmas gift and she was very excited to finally have a new grill. I would highly recommend Springhill Hardware over the big box hardware stores. It was a great feeling to support a local resident and business that has been there since I was growing up in Hamden in the 70s.

As we were at Bender, we were even encourage to google Home Depot prices in comparison to Bender's and obviously Bender had cost more, but we were taught what aspects were different. Like prior to our Bender experience, I had no clue that specific items are "made for Home Depot" and are not the same exact items available for purchase elsewhere. The same goes for Lowes. The few folks I did see at the other place neither greeted me nor even so much as smiled at me. Then I went to this Lowe's and the employees were super friendly and helpful. Though that was in the past. The most recent time I went to this Lowe's, there were hardly any employees working. One looked right at me and didn't say a word or even smile. I went to check out and there was literally no one working the checkout lines. I must say I did notice a sign while walking in that said they were hiring and suggested filling out an application inside...so I suppose they were short staffed. I ended up going to the service/returns desk and the employee (who had not acknowledged me or smiled at me minutes earlier) was then very friendly and helpful, offering no protest when I told her I was there (at the returns desk) to purchase an item. Not only have I had better luck at this Lowe's virtually every other time I've been here in the past, but their prices are cheaper than the other guys! I suppose that, at the very least, will keep me coming back. Hopefully next time they will be more adequately staffed.
