Came here to buy specific things for work, and I really liked how this place is organized. Never got to see mid way-to the back of the store, as I only needed what was up front, which was the garden supply area. The lady who was our cashier at around 12:45pm was awesome! First of all, I put this review on their website after calling them and discussing the problem with them. Here is the review I gave. It is followed by their response, which is dishonest. Their employees were fully engaged in the conversation and the insults and ridicule of me. I do not believe the business cares about this behavior and I do not believe they intend to acknowledge this problem or change a thing. Here is my review and their response: Two grown men employees of true value were having an insulting political conversation in the main aisle of the store when I went in on Sunday afternoon. I walked past looking for something, and I was having trouble finding it so I wanted to ask these men for their assistance. But instead of doing their job and assisting me as their job of customer service requires them to do, they finish their conversation with their friend before addressing me. But before I asked my question, I advised him that they shouldn't be having that kind of conversation out loud in the middle of the store. The two employees and their friend responded to me by calling me names insulting me. After decades of giving these people my business, they will never see my face in there again and not another penny of my money. Thank you for your review. We apologize for the bad experience you encountered at our store. We were able to follow up with your husband today and learned that it was not our employees who were engaging with insults but a customer. We understand that you felt threatened by this person and unfortunately our employee did not step in to defuse the situation. Brought my lawnmower here to be repaired because the manufacturer Husquvqrna said it was an authorized repair center. They took it in and then called me 2 weeks later to tell me that they wouldn't work on it . Don't bother bringing anything here for repair!!! read more

I was a loyal shopper for 20 years. That changed a few years ago when I was tried getting a can of paint an hour before they closed and was informed by the same person that supplied a can of paint less than a week before that no one was available to mix the paint at that time. I was the only customer in the store. She was rude and nasty and actually yelled at me. I shop at ace now and have always been treated with respect from very knowledgeable employees. I don't recommend using their rental department. A few times now I've rented a bounce house.This most recent time, 4 hours before my party is set to start at 2pm they call and tell me they will not deliver it because of the rain. In the past they've delivered it on Friday night for our Saturday party, but not this time. We should have been given more notice if this in fact is their policy. We have been watching the weather but the rain is set to stop between noon and 1pm and they would not deliver it then because they do not have anyone to deliver it at that time - which is the middle of business hours. Meanwhile, Taylor Rental is able to come within the next hour for a 3 day rental at the same price! We try to stay local but it's not always worth it. read more

I thought this would be a great place to look for some tools I am in need of, but sadly I found I was wrong. True Value is such a bad business, and it starts with their products, their prices, and their employees. There prices seemed to be very outrageous, and most of their employees are bitchy and rude except for the few kids that I have seen work there. I especially noticed that the owner Tom is one of the more rude workers at True Value. I'm just trying not to use my bad language to describe him. I went into the store not too long ago, looking for some simple gardening tools for this upcoming spring season. All I was searching for was a nice new shovel and a new hoe, but sadly I did not come out of the store with what I went there for. Now all I came out with was a shovel, and no hoe. The shovel wasn't even the right kind I wanted. So I'm sorry to whoever likes shopping there, but I will have you know I am never going anywhere near that place again! Such a shame. read more

Purchased Ariens Compact 24 Snowblower several years ago from this establishment. Reason for review is I called the service department to ask a few general service questions for my machine and to schedule service. No one was able to answer the call and had to leave a voicemail. Received a text the late in the day to confirm some info. I text back the next morning and haven't received any response in 3 days. I took my equipment elsewhere. Tried there $9.00 a bag wood pellets. I see absolutely no difference from Lowe's or Tractor Supply pellets at $5.49 a bag. Live and learn.

Don't deal with these people. They didn't do what I had asked (omitted a blade sharpening and substituted a tune up), told me it would cost $280 and charged me $440, quoted $300 for additional work which I approved, changed the quote 2 days later to $600. They're thieves and incompetent. read more

I always like to start my reviews out highlighting the positive. The Gentlemen in the service department are always friendly helpful and honest. The reason for my review today is here in New England we are preparing for a hurricane to hit tomorrow. While checking out at the counter the woman working the other register was making snide rude and unnecessary comments about how customers were too stupid to prepare for the storm. Can you judge mental Judy I say some of us have a job and we don't have the time to act in a manner that pleases the cashier at the local hardware store. If it bothers you to do your job which is to check out customers when they come to the register then maybe you should find somewhere else to work. No one needs that kind of judgment and negativity from a cashier when they're preparing for yet another crisis in a series of crises that have happened over the last 18 months. Making rude, uncivilized, uncouth, remarks like that only emphasize that you're a crappy person, not your customers!! never going back there again!! screw you and your high prices!! Bought a piece of equipment and was not happy with the quality of the product, so I tried to return it, they did not except the return. So instead of working with me and keeping a customer they decided to stand by inferior quality and keep the money. I use to go their several times a week to buy various things for the house and paid the higher prices for convenience, but not any more. read more

This place is gold for do it yourself people. I've done countless projects at my house and whenever I have a problem the guys in the equipment and tool shop are always more than helpful to guide me through it. They know their stuff. I've rented a dethatcher, large orbital sander, and plan on renting their aerator and over seeder. The equipment is well maintained and priced. Head over to the tool shop and see for yourself. Also have to say Sara in paint shop is hands down the most helpful and knowledgeable person we've come across. Wish I found her before we painted our interior. read more

Not many comments on here but I agree True Value prices are very high and no they are not under new management. Would be nice if someone responded to these comments! I'm never shopping here either and I live in Killingworth. Very disappointed how their employees lie and won't stand up to protect someone's job! Very disappointed in True Value they should just go out of business and bring Ace Hardware here instead. I will travel farther and give my business to someone who deserves it! I don't know why I bother returning... but after today I won't - I've had enough. I strive to support my local businesses, but this business repeatedly shows me they don't care about those customers who support their livelihood. If someone DOES bother to ask you if you need help, it goes no farther... My husband & I may as well be invisible. We've felt this way for YEARS (10+ yrs so honestly our 2nd chances given are spent!). I once actually had an older woman who worked there (I now realize she's a family biz owner) call me a "wuss" after I bought several gallons of paint but said I was putting the painting project aside till "after the heatwave passed.".... Really? So rude! I always brushed it off but no more!... i'll drive the extra 10 miles to go to ACE Hardware in Clinton - at least they're genuinely friendly & project useful! They have given me more useful info than I ever know what to do with & have never steered me wrong. I'll NEVER shop @ TruValue Killingworth again. Makes me so sad to be unable to endorse & support a local business. These business owners need to get over themselves - serious K'worth TV, you are NOT the sole hardware biz in a 20 mile radius. Fail! They will not order items for you from their website. My elderly mother needed a new screen door. It is only available from their website. She was having trouble with the website, so she called this store to ask if they could order it for her. "We don't do that" was the response. Even spoke with the manager she said again "we don't do that". When asked why, she responded rudely, "it's something we don't do". Um, ok. Bye. It's not so much that they don't offer the service, it was that they offered no other options. If one does not have internet or the website is down, tough luck. Stewards Ace hardware does offer this service. They got our business and True Value in Killingworth will not ever get our business again. Truthfully, with the beautiful new store, there really isn't much he doesn't carry or rent. I'm shocked people complain about prices, when the degree of expertise and local access are so much of an advantage. I was motivated to write a review for them after some exceptional small-business kind of accommodations they offered after I bought the wrong tool, and they did it without batting an eyelash. It isn't the kind of service that you would expect from HD or Lowes and it makes you really appreciative of your local store. While I have the review open I just want to call attention to all of the professional tools, tractors, cherry pickers, etc that they rent. It is amazing the stuff you will find here. I went looking high and low for a part to fix my old toilet. No one had it in any of the big box stores or plumbing supply places. Well to my surprise not only did they have the part the guy who worked their alao gave me advice as to how to install it. I love local shops for this personalized service. They deserve a higher rating than what I am giving them however their prices still can't compare to the bigger stores. But what they lose in prce they gain in service. read more

The service department at Killingworth True Value is a joke. They don't stand behind their work, they blame the brand instead of taking responsibility for their mistakes and they don't care about their customers. I brought a Stihl hedge trimmer to them for repair on 7/3/17. They said it had a faulty switch. It took them until 7/11/17 to replace the switch. I picked the trimmer up on 7/12/17 used it for an hour and it malfunctioned again. Brought it back to them. They said they needed to replace the switch again. This time it took them until 8/20/17 to fix! So far it's working, but really, from 7/3-8/20 to replace a switch??!! They said they didn't have the switch and had to wait for Stihl to send it to them, but Stihl insists they had it. I had paid them $70 for the initial repair - yup $70! to replace a switch. Upon pick up on 8/20, I asked them for some sort of credit/reimbursement for the aggravation of getting the runaround and all the time it took to fix. The service manager Dave said it wasn't their problem and that I should go get money back from Stihl. Really?? This is how you treat a customer that has spent thousands of dollars in your store? I called Stihl and they are working on doing something for our troubles. The good news is I found a new repair shop in Deep River. Hanks. Hank is the best. I brought him a weed wacker to repair and he had it back to me in 2 days working perfectly, and he charged half the price of these clowns that don't know what they're doing at Killingworth True Value. read more
