Staff and products are incredible! I went to Benedict's to set a chicken coop on my backyard for the first time. One of the saleswomen was so so helpful. She took at least 30 minutes to explain everything and answer all my questions. I never felt rushed and now I know exactly what to do. They have a super helpful guide to caring for chicks the first couple of days. She helped me pick out products that would save me money. If you are starting a coop go here! I also got great veggies and they had the lawn care stuff I needed that the big box and amazon just don't carry. Benedict's has knowledgeable staff and the stuff you need.

We found a white albino rabbit in the middle of the road in our neighborhood one day. It was really hot, it did not move, was really listless and because it looked like someone's pet, we picked it up and took it home. We started to feed it, give it water, and a little bit of TLC. It reacted great after a few days and started to be a lively and energetic bunny that we decided to call Fluffy. We put flyers in everyone's mail box, talked to neighbors, and posted found pet ads on the internet. No one claimed the little girl...we think it was a girl. After 2 weeks of no one claiming her, and no one wanting to adopt her, we started calling rescue places without any luck. Nobody wanted her. We finally took it to the Danbury Animal Welfare Society who also did not take her but recommended we take her to Benedicts. We have never been there, so did not know what it was and when it closed. We got there about 6 minutes after they closed and we pulled into a driveway where all the employees were leaving and someone was still there. He came out to talk to us and we showed him the rabbit. He thought it looked good, healthy, and was willing to take it and take care of it. I thought this was so great of them to be willing to care for a rabbit and be nice enough to help us even after they closed, that I had to write a review. If the place wasn't so far from us, I would definitely give them my business! Great place!

Great place. Home town feeling. Unfortunately prices have really gone crazy the last 4 years.

Rarely in my travels have I met a business owner with more integrity and genuine interest in…read morehelping out a customer than the owner of Earth First Nursery. I used to live in the area years ago when the nursery was named Wakeman's and preferred that name. When talking with Dave Benjamin, the owner, it doesn't take long to appreciate his knowledge base. This is the type of business I like to go to where not only do you get a great product but you can tap into expert advice. When I was in Connecticut I'd snap a photo of the area of my yard, give Dave a general description of what I was hoping for then ask his advice - Dave would usually suggest something far better than I had in mind. He has saved me numerous times from planting in the wrong area and was always willing to provide pragmatic, spot-on advice whenever I had a problem with a plant. Just like Beata E. I had a problem with some blueberry bushes in one portion of my yard but not another, Dave asked about the soil pH, I checked and he was right -- where the bushes thrived it was the right pH but was too high where the plants had issues. He advised how to correct it, I followed his advice and, no surprise, it worked. He seems to really love helping and when I stopped by sometime later, he asked how my blueberry plants were doing - and seemed to really care. This is not a Home Depot or Walmart type place where you just buy a plant, I consider Earth First as a resource where you benefit from their knowledge and experience. I think Dave said his father used to own the business and that he went to college for a degree in horticulture to work at his father's nursery - pretty impressive. Now that I've moved and am living in California, I'm hoping to find the Wakeman's equivalent out here. (btw, I don't think there are new owners, just a different name)

Owned by long term, highly experienced gardener! Well worth the stop to see a full range of…read morepossible plantings. Ask for Dave.
