We've been here at least a dozen and we absolutely love this place. Every time we come they have something new to offer and the staff is so friendly. It's family owned and everyone is so helpful. Literally every person there knows exactly how to care for each plant. Also the prices are at least 30% less than anywhere else nearby. Colonial Gardens has a fantastic, well-organized selection of plants (ex: all the shade plants are grouped in one place). They could not be more patient and knowledgeable, and willing to offer their expertise; it's like having the insight of a personal shopper, except for your garden. Their prices are totally comparable to big box stores but with far superior specimens every time. If you need a hostess gift, their greenhouse is full of gorgeous houseplants, cacti/succulents, orchids and the most phenomenal begonias! I have been doing business with Bonnie and her staff at Colonial Gardens for many years, both for garden plants and for cut flowers. In fact, they designed the flower arrangements for both of my parents' memorial services, working with me to create individualized tributes that reflected the personalities of my parents. Bonnie's ability with colors and textures is wonderful. In my experience, they have been unfailingly helpful, cheerful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I've had multiple experiences witnessing the man who I think owns the nursery yelling at his employees to a point bordering on verbal abuse. The first time he snapped at a few of his employees asking him completely reasonable questions, like where to find a specific plant. The second time I saw him SCREAM at the top of his lungs at a poor associate who brought him the wrong plant and pot. He was cursing and swearing, all of this directly in front of customers. I can't support a place that treats employees so poorly- won't be returning. read more

Too bad- This nursery has beautiful plants and flowers. The staff are very helpful and knowledgable. Unfortunately we had a bad experience. When purchasing one of the plants the owner propped it up with a stake telling me it needs some extra support. A day after taking it home and transplanting it, the plant died. We called the nursery and spoke to the owner and we were basically told it was or fault. Despite spending close to $300 that weekend and being repeat customers I was told it was my loss. Any reputable garden center stands behind what it sells. Unfortunately we won't be returning. It's too bad as we think it has the best selection in town. read more

Picked a beautiful arrangement from their pictures and upgraded it for a very special birthday for my brother in Fairfield. Called from California and spoke to them and they said they had all the flowers but for the color of the roses. What a surprise when I saw a picture of what they sent: Missing some of the types of flowers, others stuck in a vase like an amateur, roses looking days old, and overall not nearly as dense as the picture. So I called. Wow, did I get an unpleasant defensive person. Well, she was the one who made it. And she told me that they can't make it look like the picture (how deceptive is that?) and yes, she decided not to use some of the flowers, and maintaining that it was beautiful and as it should be. No accommodation or satisfaction to my complaints. Then she complained about the people I sent it to, as being difficult customers. What gall. No wonder the place has a low rating. I wish I saw that before I ordered. Stay away from that florist. There are much better sounding ones in Fairfield. read more

STAY AWAY, absolutely dreadful arrangement and the customer service wasn't any better. I always use Hansens florist but the delivery slots were taken for the day so I decided to use Colonial Gardens instead, what a huge mistake and a complete waste of money, I will never ever use these again.. A complete rip off.. BEWARE they even admit the pictures are very deceiving.. Do yourself a favour and stay away use a decent trustworthy florist like Hansens. read more

My finance' from England sent me valentine's day flowers from this florist! He orders me flowers every week from Hanson's which are always amazing! He did not realize that he needed to order so far in advance for Valentine's day that he ordered from Colonial instead! Spent 106 dollars on 4 roses some daisies and a few lilies! HORRIBLE! UGLY AND NOTHING LIKE THE PHOTO! These were supposed to be a premium arrangement and they looked like they were left over for a week! NEVER EVER WOULD RECOMMEND! My wife sent me a dozen yellow roses for my birthday. Whey they arrived, they were beautiful and appeared to be fresh. However, the roses never opened. They just drooped and died unopened. I called the florist and spoke with a sales person who did not seem to be welcoming of my call nor sympathetic. The manner in which she received my call was in direct contrast to the satisfaction policy they post on their website. I think the quality of any business can most accurately be measured by the way they respond to customers' concerns. read more
