They have a great selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, decorative pots and more. There are many unique plants that I've never seen elsewhere. Most recently, I was searching for succulents, and they had a vast array, with lots of beautiful arrangements to provide inspiration. While Oliver's is a geared toward high-end gardeners, I find their prices to be about the same -- sometimes better -- than those of other garden centers in Connecticut. The knowledgeable staff are friendly and helpful. Oliver's is also community-minded. In my neighborhood, we are working to transform a vacant, overgrown, ugly lot into a nature preserve and bird sanctuary. Oliver's has been a true partner in this endeavor, providing native tress and shrubs that are well-adapted to the particulars of the space and lots of good advice about care, placement, etc.

We hired James and his dad's company after a terrible experience with our first landscaper to redo our grass areas. I personally did all the flower garden designs and mulch myself so that I can save money and also because I enjoy doing garden landscaping. We renovated our entire 1/2 acre lawn plus our enormous sidewalk, which was full of trees and wood chips and rocks. James and his dad only use high quality seed and soil and kept their word. They promised me an amazing lawn if I followed their maintenance advice which was to use Teed & Brown, another amazing landscaping maintenance company. My renovation project was completed in about 2-3 days in October of 2020 and I waited 9 months to write this review so that the grass could come in 100% and it did. Today my yard looks like it should be on the front cover of a landscaping magazine. Its full, thick, dark green and looks like a carpet. I was told it takes up to 2 years for the grass to grow in nice and thick, but I can't imagine my yard looking any nicer than it does today, only 9 months after the renovation project. From a cost perspective they are a bit pricier than other landscaping companies, but I honestly believe I got what I paid for and nothing less. You cannot go wrong with JP Philbin Landscapes & Nursery, if you are looking to do the job perfectly right the first time!

Great company and even better people.

They made some good recommendations on trees and plants and we spent thousands of dollars on the materials and the labor. Problem: there were two snow fountain cherry trees they planted in the backyard that were right up against the house. While the workers were here we asked them THREE TIMES to NOT plant the trees too close to the house and to move them away. Despite our multiple requests they continued on with their work and assured us it would be no problem to move the trees in the spring if we were unhappy. When the trees started growing right into our house they told me to prune the side closest to the house which made the trees look lopsided. In the spring I asked them to come take a look and make good on their promise to move the trees- I assumed this would be at no charge. The guy who came out said it would cost another $800 to move the trees- this after they told us it wouldn't be a problem to move them! I don't think it's a good practice to not do a good job the first time and then try to charge customers to fix the problem later.
