Product quality and customer service is a mixed bag. Sometimes plants flourish and other times they die. I'm a successful Plant Lover; I always do my own research to ensure I'm not over or under watering and have grow lights to ensure they get enough light. Some plants have died within 1 month of purchase and have found they had root rot. Young guy is kind. Older gentleman never attempts to interact with me. Like I said, mixed bag. read more

Interesting! A 1 year guarantee policy is posted at the checkout counter for shrubbery, trees, etc. . But when we brought a 'sickly' houseplant back within 7 days to exchange for another, we were told in rather harsh language - "you can't return houseplants". Eventually, they relinquished and made a 1 time exception. BTW, we didn't see this policy posted anywhere or printed on the receipt. Being such a struggle doesn't sit well with me. read more

I'm super disappointed in this place. My fiancé had booked the Mother's Day lunch, which was advertised as a Mother's Day event. He did not notice in the very fine print that the event was being held the day before Mother's Day. We showed up on Mother's Day and no event was being held. The girl at the register abruptly told us the event was Saturday, and not on Mother's Day, and that we wouldn't be getting our money back. It was completely false advertising, and I'm left with a really bad taste in my mouth now because of it. I will not be coming back here, and I'm so upset that this is how today went. read more

I am amazed that such an overpriced boutique-ish spot had such terrible service. I went there twice this week: both times I had to load my car by myself as there was no help readily available. I had an issue with one of the plants I bought; Emily (the owner) was reluctant to make it right. Next time, I will shop at the big-box stores or online. We stopped into Designs by Lee to investigate having some replanting done at our new home and were happy the fall special was in full swing! We had a good selection to choose from, a helpful nursery man who gave us a few good ideas, and we then made our selections and were on our way. The installation happened a few weeks later, with 2 wonderful men were patient and gave us a good suggestion regarding positioning a holly which I had envisioned in a different location. They went above and beyond our expectations - removing the old shrubbery and plantings and replacing with new evergreens, mulching the bed and complete clean up. She yelled "get out", " you did not buy anything", "don't come back here anymore" it was all said in front of our little kids because we did not know they are closing at 5.30 pm and it was 5.35 pm. Designs by Lee helped me select a white birch tree and it is stunning! They were flexible about holding it for me until our yard was ready. After the success of that project, we've returned to them again and again for the next sections of our yard . Boxwoods, evergreens, mums, you name it. This is a great nursery, it has a great selection with good prices. Ive been a couple of times and have always had someone helpful at the counter. Its very well laid out and the variety of plants beats other places in the area. So very impressed by the knowledge, advice, and skill level of Designs by Lee. I appreciated that the owner made certain my property was done for a family event even though we had several days of rain. The crew was respectful, communicated well, and aimed to please. Fair hourly pricing, they don't "pad" the time clock, and they sent the right number of men to get the job done. (When other companies send out large crews for smaller jobs, you end up paying for inifficiency.) I have used a few different sources over the years for shrub and small tree pruning, but will now always call Desgns by Lee first going forward. I have already asked them to book me for the spring! This is the first time I have commented on Yelp--that's how pleased I am!! (They are also terrific at giving in-store lawn maintenance advice for DIYers!) read more

Their plants might be nice, but DO NOT get landscaping services from Designs by Lee. They did a job for me and first, they didn't properly clear out the planting bed, leaving old ivy and weeds surrounding my new bushes, next they didn't add the mulch (that I had paid for) to the bed, so I had to get them back here. And in the end, it turned out that they planted the wrong bushes and then did everything they could to convince me not to have them come back and replant with the bushes that were in my contract. I had to get them back here a third time! I will be using another local landscaping business in the future. read more

We had a landscaping job done by them years ago and shortly afterwards, the work started to erode away. they came twice to add more fill but it did not work so there was obviously something wrong with the way they did the job. after many MANY attempts to speak with them about it again, they finally said that the initial work should have been done a different way and they didn't realize it at the time. the work was essentially unfix able and your yard is no longer safe to walk on in that area. we've had to now invest $6,000 in a fence to not be in that area. they get one star because zero is not an option read more

Mike came out to our home for a garden consultation. The previous owner had done a lot of work on the garden, and now that spring is here and everything is blooming we were a little overwhelmed and not sure how to maintain it! We had been looking for someone to do this for a while but hadn't found the right person. Mike walked through our yard with us and helped us identify different shrubs, trees flowers, and weeds. I was seriously amazed by how much he knows and his ability to explain it well! He also gave us a lesson on how to properly prune and weed our yard, and recommendations on what to do moving forward to keep everything looking good. It is hard to find someone who really knows what he is talking about and cares about proper maintenance and longevity for a yard/garden. He told us everything we need to do to take care of it ourselves, but we would love to have Mike come back in the fall to help us! read more

We used DBL for a large yard project that in addition to reconfiguring all plants, more than doubled the plants on our property, and also involved working with the EPB. The owner Al and his crew were top notch and went above and beyond to complete the project. DBL also put in place a beautiful curved blue stone walkway, back yard patio, and sourced 2 ft by 4" blue stone steppers for a large retaining rock wall. Highly recommend DBL if you have a large job that you want done exceptionally well. They went above and beyond. The highest of recommendations. read more

Where to begin about Designs by Lee? They are truly the perfect example of what to expect from a small business. From the minuet you pull in to the nursery, to the delivery service, the crew, and the customer service I smile from ear to ear. Everyone if SO personable, friendly but most importantly knowledgeable. I have been a customer for years and have done all sorts of projects with them. A raised veggie bed, full house landscaping, tree removal, and stone work they have always work quick, and efficient but the thing that always stands out is the quality of work is spot on, they care about the project, and they clean up after themselves. read more

It's no surprise this nursery has 1.5 rating. The people there are the least bit helpful, it's almost like they don't know what they are doing. I went at 5:20 and the not so lovely staff explained "ma'am we're closing" I said I know at 5:30 and I just want to use my Groupon as it expires today. Unfortunately we talked about it for 5 mins that when I went to look I only had a few minutes left to shop and being that nothing had a price tag it was quite difficult. The girl at the front let me know "our hours are always posted"... um yay, I know you close at 5:30 NOT 5:20. Any nice business who have given me the 5 mins and helped me find something. My kids had even picked out cactuses in which I said put them back. We left there before 5:30 with nothing in our hands. A little kindness goes a long way and unfortunately that's something I've never experienced at Designs by Lee. I don't know where or who Lee is but I'd imagine he'd be incredibly disappointed in his staff. The Brookdale nursery 2 mins away is far superior and gets 5 stars. Maybe more and more people are figuring that out hence the need to even use Groupon. read more

Today, was the second time I have been a customer at Designs by Lee and it is also my last. While the both the business and plants are attractive, it is overpriced & the customer service is entirely lacking. When I went in to pay for my items, the one person at the check-out desk (a heavy set older man) with no customers at all never even acknowledged me. No greeting, nothing. Finally he packed up my plants while proceeding to talk to a man who came in after me with a question. I was apparently invisible to both. While paying, the man/cashier literally tossed my credit card across the counter at me rather than handing it to me and handed me my receipt without a word. No thank you or even a grunt out of him. I get better and nicer service at Home Depot! read more

I didn't even buy anything, but went to Designs by Lee to check it out since they had a deal on Groupon. I was there for 20-30 minutes, walking around and checking out the plants that I might buy. Not once did anyone approach me to say hello or ask if I needed help. That's not really even the issue. The main issue that I had was the price. I don't know why anyone would shop at this place. You can get the same quality plants at other nurseries to half the price even after factoring in the Groupon. And you can get lower quality stuff at the big box stores for a quarter of the price if you're on a budget. This place is huge and has a great selection but I fail to see why anyone would shop here. read more

Stay away from this garden center. I have to give it no stars. I can't say enough bad things about this garden center. The current owner is rude and does not care about his clients. We bought several trees from Designs by Lee last year - we were told at the time of purchase the only way they would be under a replacement guarantee would be to pay their people to plant the trees. The cost to plant is half the price of the tree - for each tree. They would then be guaranteed for 1 year. We agreed and had the trees planted by their staff. Within 5 months several trees died and I spent 4 months getting someone to return my calls or even speak to me in person regarding the issue. Once someone inspected the trees they agreed to replace them, the entire time telling me it was our fault they were dying. Still they did not come and replace and when we went to the nursery to pick out the new trees we were told that the time had expired for them to be under replacement guarantee. The owner was rude and nasty and walked away from the conversation several times because we were explaining that we had been calling and no one ever returned our calls and eventually a person came to inspect them and agreed to replace them. They replaced the dead trees and we purchased several more in addition. Guess what - of the replacement trees - 2 of those died within weeks - we had a local tree company's people inspect them and we were told they were planted with the root burlap and metal cages still on as well as they were planted too deep and were not able to breath. When we called Designs by Lee to discuss - the owner told us he did not want to do business with our kind of people!!! That is what he said.....he did not want our kind of people at his nursery. What the heck does that mean??? In fact, he stopped speaking to me on the phone and made some one else get on the phone to finish the conversation. The end result was they were not going to replace the second set of dead trees and they were not even going to continue the guarantee on the new trees we had purchased. We explained to the lady on the phone that they could not do that, we paid their people to plant the new trees in order to get the guarantee therefore they had to honor it should the new trees not last. My advice - stay away. They do not honor their own plant guarantee policy and if you expect to have a conversation with them about it - the current owner will berate you. I have to give it no stars. Trees should not be planted with the burlap and metal cage around the bottom when planted it should be removed. As a garden center I would expect them to plant correctly for the price they charged. I am still in shock about how we were treated. read more

I purchased a privet hedge from them for $100.00. I was waiting for our gardener to plant the bush but within two weeks the bush died. I cantacted designs by lee and they never responded to my complaint or offered me another bush. read more

This past weekend my family attended a Fall Festival Day at DBL and I was quite pleased with both the day's events and the level of service I received. After poking around in all of the flowers and plants a nursery employee gave me guidance on how to "build" my own planters at home. I purchased several hearty plants and I now have gorgeous fall planters on my front porch. Additionally, they offered a vast selection of pumpkins, gourds and miscellaneous decorative items; all of which I was able to purchase at a discounted rate that day :). I will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

I purchased plants using a Groupon and was pleased with the quality. At $22.00 a flat it wasn't too expensive anyway and with the Groupon it was a bargain. The quality was better than Home Depot and since these were perennials from last Spring I can attest that they did well for the whole growing season. I'm heading back tomorrow for this year's plants. read more

My issues are with the owner and his lack of customer support. We had work done in August of 2016, design work, plants and labor. 2 months after, we had a number of plants struggling. I took photos and emailed right away. They said wait until spring, as these plants often bounce back. Spring came, and they were not coming back. I tried several times to reach my project manager by leaving messages. I did not get any calls back, but was assured I was in the rotation to replace the plants in June, NO LABOR. It states in the contract just that. My issue is, I've had 3 separate landscape companies look at all the plants, even the surviving ones. Out of 5, only one was installed properly, the others are too deeply planted, and are likely not going to last. ( alive currently, no new growth, only one that is planted properly is clearly growing. I asked the owner to come look at the work provided, he refused. I'm having to pay labor twice, as the labor I paid for was not properly performed. The plants were replaced, one a smaller version, the others were a bit larger as their inventory did not have equal. (Certainly they could have ordered exact sizes) I'm happy with the plants, but would never do business again with them, as I am not satisfied with the owner's handling, lack of willingness to see the work was done incorrectly, and general attitude. I'm happy to pay a reasonable price for good service, this was not it. read more
