As a new homeowner one of our concerns was a clearly visible dead tree, which was over 30 feet tall and leaning against another tree nearby. My new neighbors dubbed this the widow maker and refused to walk or park their cars nearby for fear of it falling. After calling Almstead we made an appointment for arborist Matt to come out and render an opinion. He was kind enough to walk our entire property (approximately half an acre) and render an opinion on all of our trees, pointing out several other dead trees and those that could benefit from pruning. He was patient to answer our questions and concerns, and even spoke to some neighbors the same day regarding their trees. After receiving a quote the same day, Matt was flexible to prioritize those items that we were ready to move forward with and did not push us to pay for those items that we didn't want to do. Several weeks later Matt and the team (Antonio, Javier, Luis) came back to take down two trees and trim two others. It was clear that safety was a top priority of theirs, and they took the time to clean up the yard before leaving. Several months later, a very large limb fell off one of those trees that was pruned, so we called Matt back out to take a closer look. He reinspected the tree, identified what seemed to be the culprit, and assured us that the tree is safe. He even took the time to take a closer look at spots on my lawn where I suspected a fungus was developing, identifying the problem as chinch bugs (never heard of them before). All-in-all, I would highly recommend Matt and the team out of the Hawthorne office. They're down to earth, will address your concerns, and won't try to steal your money with needless projects. I had questions regarding the process and how it was going to be executed. I was dealing with Maria and Jack. Jack was onsite and extremely knowledgeable and answer all my questions. I wanted them to remove more of the pine. I got in touch with their Office Manager Maria A. who was a breath of fresh air to deal with. Customer service is take very serious and I had no doubt that Maria took care of me with all my questions regarding the process as well. More than a week later, and we haven't heard from or spoke with anyone regarding our concerns. I can't imagine how a business does business when this is how they deal with customers on day one. Apparently my money is different and they don't want it. Perhaps they have some beliefs or views which precludes their ability to work for me; and at this point I don't have to go figure out what that is. A month ago, I dialed National and got a free estimate. The person's name Artie showed up late. He will give you a good price and that seems to be catch. Schedule to install Sprinkler system was agreed on one of Thursday. No one showed up the whole day. After three try Artie texted me that it was mix-up and he can do installation on April 30th. We agreed. Yesterday 4/29, I had neither text nor phone call for confirmation. I texted Artie and no response. I left VM and no answer. After that he started disconnecting my phone. I had no choice, so I called the main number. At office one lady tried to help me by checking schedule and told me we are not on their schedule for 4/30. I explained that I need to take Day-off for this and he should have at least a curtsy to call me. She promises me that Artie will call you. Instead of calling I got text, and he said I am running late in scheduled installation, and I will not be able to do your job. He even told me that he would be fine if I found another company to do a job. Really, After one month of loss. Please take in writing if they will honor the installation date.

Bill's partner who came to quote the pruning was nice enough but when I asked for a price, I was given a very vague answer that it would cost "X" but "X" wouldn't guarantee that the job would be complete. So I asked 2 more times what would be the cost to complete the job and finally I got an answer but it was 2X! Significantly higher than anyone else. I decided not to go with them. I was disappointed I didn't get Bill. Everyone said he's the honest one. He's the knowledgeable one. I noticed my neighbors aren't using WTL anymore either. Be careful when you sign with them. Make sure you read your contract. Be sure your quote is to complete a job, not just for part.

This company must have been terrific in years past, given how many of my neighbors recommend them…read more Sadly, not anymore. They took down a bunch of troubled trees. First, they screwed up the permit, filing an inaccurate description of the property. Whatever. Then, they failed to show up on the day of the appointment. Annoying, but forgivable. Then they did the work and I paid up. And then, last month -- three years after the job -- the local government writes me to say the permit was never closed. The company promised the village that we would replant seven trees. That seems like a sensible rule, and we will comply, BUT the company never bothered to tell us this and left the permit open. And when I called them to get their help closing out the permit, they ignored me. When I persisted, the guy who did the job, Remy, came out and said this was not his problem. But the village had sent me his permit language on his letterhead promising to do something he never did and never discussed with me. Surely that makes it his responsibility. He reluctantly said he would take care of this and then disappeared. I left messages for the owner, Bill Davies. He never responded. This is shady behavior.
