They're always very helpful and well staffed. They have a lot of cool stuff in there as well.

I'm a pretty active do-it-your-selfer, and I love hardware stores. Ridgefield Hardware is very impressive. While branded as an ACE store--nothing against ACE, I've found them in various locations, including Madison, CT, to be consistently excellent--Ridgefield Hardware has the look and feel of a true, old-fashioned, independently run store. The staff are all very nice and very knowledgeable. While I use Ring's End for bigger projects, when I'm looking for something specific and cannot find it at Ring's End, I more often than not find that Ridgefield Hardware has what I need. If you don't see what you want quickly, just ask. The great team behind the cash registers at the front will ask when you come in if they can help. Don't be shy--tell them what you are looking for--unless you are just browsing or know exactly where the items you need are located. It will save you time and they'll alert someone to help you. Ridgefield Hardware gets five stars, it is well stocked and the employees are service orientated and know what they are talking about. You will barely get 1 step in the door before one of the employees says hello and asks if they can help you. That will never happen @ Home Depot, and why supporting smaller stores is so important. Ridiculous prices! Went there for a simple light socket, which costs $2.19 at Amazon (with free shipping) and $1.99 at Lowes. The price at Ridgefield Hardware?....$5.99 !!! These guys charge double and triple for EVERYTHING. I guess that's necessary because there are ten people working there to service the three people in the store at any given time. If you have tired of the incompetence of big box stores then head here! After hours of trouble with a grill purchase and return at Lowe's, I decided to head here when I was told that if I wanted assembly, any grill would take at least a week to get. I was in and out of Ridgefield hardware in under 30 minutes, got terrific advice and help from John, and will have an assembled grill in about 24 hours delivered to my house. Look, seeing as it was my local place, I decided to go for convenience over price when I was fixing a few minute things before I moved. Came in, the part I needed was sold out but they said they could have it in stock in 3 days. Okay, that sounds reasonable and saves me a trip up to Federal Road. 3 days pass and I haven't heard anything, so I go in and I am told it will be another 2 days. Alright, fine. Again, 2 days go by without hearing back. As I was moving, I went up to Lowes and got what I needed. Fast forward 3 months... I have moved out of town by now and i get a call that the part has come in and is ready for pick up. 3 MONTHS LATER? What a joke. Thank you but I will take my business elsewhere. read more

This hardware store is a wonderful perk to have in the heart of Ridgefield! We are incredibly lucky to have such a great crew of experts with many lifetimes of knowledge who stand ready to help us. I can't count the number of times they have helped me with a myriad number of problems through the years. I can't even imagine how much time it would have taken me to go up to Federal Road to the dreaded huge stores to find and get what I needed. This place is cramped, parking is bad, and some of their personnel are rude and harsh. But if you're lucky you can get a convenient parking spot right out front and one of their really helpful employees. It's hit or miss with this place. read more

Had a fantastic experience with Ridgefield Hardware. I bought a Traeger grill four days before Thanksgiving. Picked it up in the store from Ridgefield, got it home and assembled it and the lid didn't sit right. There was no damage to the box whatsoever/I've since read that Traeger had a slight manufacturing issue on a few of these new models. I called Ridgefield Hardware and spoke to Sarah (I believe the manager) who was fantastic. Although they didn't have any more of my model in stock, she found another location that had one. She then organized a delivery of an already assembled grill/pick-up of my damaged one. I recognized the driver from the previous pickup and struck up a conversation and realized that he had actually planned on taking the day off but came in to grab the grill from the other location, assemble it and make sure I got the grill delivered before Thanksgiving (I live 35 minutes away from this location). Really awesome service and I'm thankful for all the help - and my new grill! read more

This place is terrific. Having just moved into a home in town, a friend recommended their paint department rather than going to a bigger store. I'm not sure I can recall getting better retail service anywhere. Paul is a terrific resource in use paint department. Knowledgable about paints and patiently understanding of the customer overwhelmed by paint choices. He guides you if that's what you want, or let's you make your own decisions if you'd rather not have help. Having said that, his recommendations have been spot on, both with color and advice on painting. No matter where you go in the store, someone knowledgable is there to help. Beyond that, they are super nice too. So far, we haven't had to go anywhere else for our home improvement needs. read more

It always pays to give Ridgefield Hardware a call before heading all the way to Home Depot or Lowes. I'm constantly amazed at what they have in stock -- two weekends ago, they had the exact belt replacement for my YardMaster 2 stage snowblower. Whoda thunk. Last year I needed oil rubbed bronze doorstops. Home Depot and Lowes didn't have the ones I wanted. On the way home, I stopped in Ridgefield Hardware. And they did. Should have just gone there in the first place. And as mentioned in the other reviews, there is always someone at the front door who's there to help. Special ordering and picking up is also a breeze. Very friendly service with an astonishingly large stock. My only gripe is I can't stop by on the way home from work because of the hours. read more

How fast can you get in and out of a store with what you were looking for? Well Ridgefield Hardware might just be about the fastest it gets, you walk through the door and are greeted, directed to the area and an employee from that area is alerted that you are on your way. It just doesn't get better for customer service. I do wish they had some extended hours though but besides that they are the best small town hardware store you could ever want. read more

After being loyal customer for the past 7 years, I had my 1st bad experience at Ridgefield Hardware. I went to make a $ 50 purchase and found a $5 off coupon that comes in the mail once a month. They wouldn't accept it as the sale date didn't start until tomorrow. I ask the manager to override it and she sorry it's not valid until tomorrow. This is someone who has personally checked me out at the counter over the years. Companies spend a lot of money on promotions to drive customers into the store. It only takes one bad exchange to drive a customer out of the store forever, so much for supporting the local business in town, I went to Home Depot and saved money instead. They have what I need whenever I go in. They will also place special orders for you. Sign up for their email sales and Ace Club to save money. Also, they send out good sales flyers in the mail. I ordered on line recently and saved 50%, with free delivery to the store. Three days later they called me and I picked up my order. read more

They've got everything in this store and the staff are trained as if they work for the king. But they also have the highest prices around. Great if you don't want to make a long trip to Home Depot. read more

If you need any hardware item they got it and in most cases they will help you find it. No lumber but screws, bolts, pulleys, etc and you don't need to buy a package of ten if you need only one. read more
