Dishonest and incompetent. I went there to replace the broken glass for my fireplace door, it was supposed to take 2 to 3 weeks it took 12 and then they put the wrong glass in- so it broke on the 2nd fire. I told Richie the fireplace had a fan and was for heating and the doors were supposed to close. They used tempered glass not ceramic-only found this out when I went to a different place to have it replaced again. Richie lied and said I told him otherwise and said he remembered---total scum bag in my book. PS- they also screwed when they put the glass in by covering the hole for the hardware- but after 3 months of waiting, I was just going to deal with that--until it shattered (NOTE: Richie was the one who told me to take out the hardware)... read more

Oredered a new glass fire screen for our family room fireplace. Owner Richie ordered the one we picked out. He and his assistant George did a beautiful job of installing it. It works perfectly. Their work was skillful and neat. The price was reasonable. Richie called later in the week to see if we were liking it. We were. I would recommend this business highly. If I could give less than one star I would. I just came back from returning a timer that I was told had complaints and returns. All I asked for was a refund for $8.50 cash, and the older woman at the register insisted that the owner, Richard, come and teach me how to set it--after I said that I had set the timer 6 times. It didn't work. Period. And she didn't work. She insisted that I didn't know how to set it as the owner said to give me my money back. She still carried on and the owner went ballistic, telling me not to speak to the lady "that way." What way? He went out of his mind. I said more than once to give me my money back and end it so I could leave. Well now it's ended. So much for trying to keep a local business alive when Home Depot and Loews, not to mention Amazon, are a short drive and a click away. No one should ever shop there. read more

I just had my worst retail experience ever. I have lived in westport for over 25 years and have frequently shopped here and spent thousands of dollars. The one man on staff today was so rude and obnoxious that i had to write this review. He was not knowledgeable about the product i was seeking and became irate when i asked more questions. I have shopped at Westport True Value for years. They are friendly and extremely helpful. If they don't have it, they give great advice on where to get it. Always like to support local businesses versus the big box, but their help and advice saves me time and money. read more

Ignorant and hostile store male employee (perhaps the manager). Addresses customers when they arrive through the door with an angry flood of his personal views. When I simply ignored his berating manner, he continued to shout at me as I attempted to avoid him by walking down an isle. His chirps at customers saying "watch the news!" is both unpleasant and patronizing. If you prefer to have a peaceful shopping experience rather than being forced to listen to a 50 year old man share way too many of his opinions, I suggest you shop somewhere else. read more

In the midst of this Covid-19 pandemic, I went to Westport Hardware to see if they carried a particular type of indoor/outdoor carpet. They were so helpful - one person brought a sample of the carpet I needed and showed it to me through the store door. I ordered the size and picked it up at the appointed time. They are very well organized and really nice. I will only shop here for needed items from now on! read more

Have shopped here for years and always liked the staff but never again after today. My husband bought a can of spray paint that sprayed chunks of paint on switch plates. When he tried to return it with the receipt and showed what it did to the switch plates the owner was combative and would not refund only replace. We had already gone out and purchased new switch plates and didn't need more paint. My husband was taken aback by his nastiness. Even a store credit would have been ok. For a small amount of $ they've lost a loyal customer. read more

Good news bad news...1st the good: Nice friendly neighborhood store with extensive inventory and good service to go with it. Now the bad: Their prices are egregiously expensive...Examples, I bought a mid-quality paint brush for $8. You can by a similar quality level brush elsewhere for $4. Bought a pint (not quart) of paint for $12 which can be readily found for $5. Let me be clear, I'm OK paying a premium for convenience but that said, when you pay $100+ for $50 dollars worth of stuff you start to feel a bit taken. I don't like being taken and therefore I will shop elsewhere. read more

After wasting a bunch of time trying to order parts from a patio store in Milford, what a difference it was going to Westport Hardware! Called about getting replacement parts for a patio set and they asked me to e-mail pictures of the parts to confirm the correct replacements. I love the folks at Westport Hardware. Owner Rich and daughters Sarah and Gabby have gone out of their way countless times to help me source products I need -- and need right now. How many times have I been so frustrated that I walk out empty handed after going into a big box hardware store (e.g., the name starts with an "H" and the second word in the name starts with a "D") where no one is available to hand over the order I placed three hours earlier for in-store pickup -- then they can't find my order -- or no one is ever available -- no person in sight, anywhere, even to answer a simple question --- because they're all behind the "customer service" counter shooting the s____, every time? You will never have this experience at Westport Hardware. It is so refreshing to shop locally in a pleasant, community-feel environment -- ample, easy parking, too -- where you know you can get what you need quickly, or get help to figure out what you need and what will work, with the assistance of knowledgeable, friendly people who care about their customers and care about their family-owned business. Westport Hardware even once left something I needed at a neighboring store that was open later than they were, after I called last-minute, in a pinch. I appreciate these folks and am a fan.
