So, I don't give out a ton of one star reviews, it really has to be a complete break down of multiple facets of my visit for me to become this annoyed.
My wife and I had finished a catering event, and our girls were with their grandparents for the night, so we wanted to go somewhere that she could enjoy an adult beverage. We thought about the pizza place just a couple of doors down from here but decided that we would give this a shot. It had been several years since we had eaten here and thought it was worth another try. If I had checked here first and saw the 3.5 star average I would have never went.
The Beginning:
Our visit began with an older gentleman greeting us at the door after looking at us from the bar and waiting a few seconds, before he actually headed over. It was long enough that I looked at my wife and asked if we should seat ourselves. the first table he took us to was very near the musician that they had playing so we asked for a seat further away. The gentleman took us toward the restroom and set us near a some tables that had employees at them. One was a table full of Hispanic male servers, one was a couple of female servers that were rolling silverware and the other was a group of 4 females that were fairly loud and obnoxious the entire time we were there. The last table was also joined off and on from employees coming out of the kitchen, so I figure these are employees who are off the clock or girlfriends of the guys coming out of the kitchen.
After a short discussion at the table of male servers amongst themselves, they got up and went back to work, one of them stopping at our table, he waited for us to decide what drinks we wanted and went off to get them. I ordered a coke and a water my wife wanted a Margarita and water. He started away and I tried to catch his attention but he kept walking, one of the young ladies at the table that was rolling silverware was nice enough to see what we were wanting and went off to the kitchen and brought back our queso, chips and salsa before our server could even get back with a soda and water. She was the best part of our visit.
The food:
The chips were fresh, the salsa was pretty bland except for over whelming amounts of cilantro. The queso was decent but a little pricey.
We shared the Enchiladas Grande which is effectively a sampler of the enchiladas(chicken, beef, been, cheese) There was no real redeeming factor about the entree, everything about it was flavorless, you could have given me a bottle of elmers glue and cardboard and it would have been as good as this. There was no seasoning on the beef, the chicken was very, very chewy and the cheese in the cheese enchilada wasn't even melted.
The bad.
After getting through the meal I asked my server for a cup for the water that was left in the glass on the table, after all my wife was finishing a very large margarita and could probably use some water afterward. Admittedly, I gestured toward the soda inadvertently, but i definitely said water and only asked for a cup, so, I figured, no biggie, I will get a cup and put my water in it. About 5 minutes later he brought me a cup of Coke. At first I was confused, but as I thought about it a minute I decided that perhaps he was having flashbacks to home where the water is about the same color as coke. No matter, instead of bothering him again, I decided to drink about half the soda while my wife finished her margarita and I dumped the rest of the soda into my cup and in the queso bowl. I filled the cup with one of the glasses of water, dropped the bill at the counter to the older gentleman who didn't so much as acknowledge me this time and headed out the door. Half way down the sidewalk, the older gentleman came out and very loudly yelled after me, I stopped and turned assuming that perhaps he felt I left too much of a tip or maybe I accidentally didn't leave enough money. Nope, neither of those. Instead, I was informed that I needed to give him my cup full of margarita, which I didn't have. I had a cup full of El Agua. I asked him what in the world he was talking about, he was very pushy, stating again and again that he knew I was lying and I could cost him his liqour license. Several scenarios went thru my head, do i toss it on this old d-bag to prove a point, do I dare him to take it out of my hand, do I just hand it over so he realizes that he was being a tool, do I just ignore him and keep walking. So many options. Ultimately, there was a large dumpster just over the fence form where we were standing,so I tossed my cup in the dumpster and figured I would let my hobby of reviewing all the places I eat be my ultimate justice.
On a separate and slightly amusing note, I left my keys at the table. Upon re-entry, I asked the now visibly upset older gentleman to go get them for me, he suggested I look for them. Nah, that's hot happening bud, you just accosted me, I will wait here, you bring them to me. #suckit read more
