I strongly advise looking for another mountain biking outfitter in Moab. Our private tour of the Dead Horse Point Singletrack on April 11th was a massive disappointment, largely due to Rim Tours' misleading staff and lack of basic safety protocols. Before booking, I explicitly called their office to inquire about the trail's difficulty. Their representative adamantly assured me that this was an easy, beginner-friendly ride. That was completely false. The trail features rocky, technical terrain. When confronted about this later, management simply pointed to the "intermediate" label on their website, completely ignoring the blatant misrepresentation by their own sales team over the phone. To make matters worse, we were caught in a severe storm. While I understand a standard "rain or shine" policy, we were exposed to active thunder and lightning out on the trail. A competent outfitter would prioritize safety and pull their clients off an exposed plateau during a lightning storm. Instead, because we had to end the ride early to avoid being struck by lightning, Rim Tours hid behind their cancellation policy and refused to offer any kind of refund or credit, claiming the guide deemed it "appropriate to proceed." If you value honest communication and your own personal safety, do not book with Rim Tours. They will tell you whatever you want to hear to get your credit card, and once the tour starts, you are completely on your own. read more

I am so glad we choose Rim Tours for an all day ride in Moab. We rode Dead Horse Point for the views, and it did not disappoint. Our guide, Brian, was exceptional. He did a great job of keeping an eye on all four of us, while also allowing us the freedom to ride the way we wanted. He was able to answer all of our questions about the history and geology of the area. And the snacks and sandwiches he brought were perfect! Excellent experience on a half-day ride with Carl and Brian at Rim Tours today at Dead Horse State Park. Wife gave me the green light to steal away for a half day while passing through Moab, and although I'd rather have ridden every day we are here, it didn't fit into family touring plans. Found Rim Tours on Google, and one call to Melissa and I was booked. Met them at Lions Park this morning- more convenient than meeting them at their home base, and was whisked away in the loaded van. A brief into to the Santa Cruz bikes, covering safety, etc.- and we were off. A few notes on the ride- 1. Bring water, snacks, sunblock, sunglasses, and gloves. Helmet, bike, water bottle provided. 2. Expect a few terrain obstacles but nothing too rowdy. Not a great place for your first mb encounter, but an easy roll with lots of stops for views, ecology lessons, or to pack the group back up. Mostly rock features, but so e deep sand and some brief climbs. 3. Expect beautiful, carbon fiber Santa Cruz bikes. 1x gearing makes it simple. Beautiful, well- maintained rides. 4. Expect a little personalization. I was with an awesome Swiss family with three teen daughters and another adult fella from Denver. I was able to roll quickly with the front guide and hit things at pace. Accommodated riders of all levels. Fun group! 5. As always, tip your guides at the end. These guys were great, funny, and told lots of trivia and history and ecology without being showboat personalities. Laud back and chill, but can ride and know their stuff. Only blunder was requesting a bike with SPD pedals, but mu clips are actually Crank Bros and did not clip. Annoying, but totally my fault. It worked well enough for me to not think too much while riding. Completely my fault. Go with this outfit. Been doing it since the mid 80's, and do it well. Would not hesitate to book with them again...this tine for a longer ride in the mountains or...can't wait to ride Moab again! read more

My husband and I booked a tour with Rim Tours online. I emailed back and forth with Melissa to determined what tour was best for two riders with limited experience. She made a great suggestion for Klondike Bluffs. On the day of the tour, Dave picked us up at the meet up spot. He was early and very friendly. We drove out to the tour location together in the Rim Tours van. Dave helped us set the bikes up and showed us the ropes on the amazing mountain (BRAND NEW) bikes that they provide. Dave was super knowledgeable, rode with us to our abilities, and stopped when we needed breaks. The group was only my husband, myself, and Dave which was excellent. I had been very worried when we were booking the tour that we would potentially be holding other people up on the tour who may have been more experienced than my husband and I. I can't say enough great things about Rim Tours. We contracted with them to do a half day group mountain bike ride at Dead Horse Point State Park the morning of our wedding. We had 17 people in the group, and while a few of us were experienced riders, many of our number had either never been on a mountain bike before or else it had been a few years. Brooks and Julie did a fantastic job start to finish. They showed up on time, got all the bikes and gear unloaded and assigned, and gathered the group together for a safety meeting. Then we got some basic education on how the bikes worked and tips for riding. They had everyone take a spin around the parking lot to get familiarized with the bikes, and then we were off on the trails. Once we got to the first overlook they took a group photo of all of us together (one of my most cherished photos from my wedding day!) and we split up into two groups - one group of beginner level riders and a second group of more intermediate level riders. My husband and I each went with a different group but we had the same overall experience. Both guides did a great job of pacing the group along the trail, giving appropriate instructions at the beginning of each section of obstacles, and imbuing all the riders (no matter how inexperienced) with such a feeling of stoke and confidence that every single person pushed their limits and tried things they never envisioned themselves doing on a mountain bike. My friend came and did a bike tour with this company five years ago and was able to remember the name due to him and his immature friends referring to it as "rim job" tours. He had a great time back then so we decided to give them another go. On our recent trip we called them 20 mins to closing and were able to book a private tour for two. They were super accommodating. We did a one-day private beginner mountain bike tour and, quite simply, it was awesome. I'm honestly cannot even think of a single suggestion to make it better. I'm and experienced road cyclist, but haven't been on a mountain bike in over a decade. My friends were casual cyclists who had never done anything like this before. Everyone was happy at the end of the day. Our tour guide, Noel, was the perfect combination of instructor and tour guide. He did a superb job with the mountain bike instruction and know just how to challenge folks enough without overdoing it. He was also very knowledgeable about the area, it's history and its geology. At the end of the day, everyone's confidence was super high and we didn't want the day to end. Also, I'm an amateur bike mechanic and can vouch that the bikes were brand new and super well-maintained - you could eat off the chains. Noel through Rim Tours provided an amazing mountain biking experience for my husband and I. We never did anything like this before and it's our first visit to Moab. The Klondike route we took to a back entrance ( now hiking on foot ) to Arches where at 5200 feet we had the most amazing and beautiful view of "Marching Man" and the canyons. Noel was also very informative on the way up pointing out significant details of fossilized dinosaur prints, spoke about different dinosaur eras and was able to talk about the geology of the terrain we covered. This will be a memory that will remain with me forever- the challenges, the exhilaration, such solitude and beauty as we were the only ones around. Met our guide Shelby at Chili Pepper Bike shop and we were off on our adventure. The drive out to Dead Horse State Park was beautiful and Shelby was a badass! With so many options in Moab for Mountain Bike rentals, tours, places to ride, etc. It can be a bit overwhelming. We contacted a few and decided to go with Rim Tours. What a good decision. We booked a half-day private tour so my daughter (9) and my wife could get there first taste of off road riding. As a more experienced rider, I wanted something a bit more but was unsure how my skills would handle the variety of trails. I also wanted to ride with son (12) who has some experience but not an expert by any means. So we called and took a recommendation. We rode the Moab Brand trails. Great choice with great guides and instructors. My daughter and wife worked with Julie who was perfect for them. She took time to teach skills and covered some of the easier trails (but still challenging). My son and I rode with Brian, who made sure that we had a great time. No pressure, just showing us the variety of trails and conditions in Moab. We had such a great time that before we were off the trails all 4 of us were wondering if there were other options for later in the week. We booked a 2nd tour at Klondike Bluffs based on the recommendation of Brian and Julie. Something that would push us all a little more and show us more variety but not frustrate everyone by being too hard. So the next tour was with Russel and Sam. Russel worked with my wife and daughter. He also took time to teach but gave them more of a ride as they improved. My son and I were pushed hard by Sam. He picked out a set of trails that were not too hard but also made us better bike handlers. I have been self-taught and just the few things he explained made me a better rider. He also made sure we saw a very different set of trail types than our previous tour (fun slick rock) and harder than anything I had done before. I am a better rider because of it. As you can expect from a first class company, the equipment we used was great. We all got to ride on nice (and basically new) Santa Cruz full suspension bikes (I rode a Bronson). As with all tours the experience is heavily based on the guides. Our 2 sets were different styles but great for my family (and I think I have them all hooked on more MTB riding...success). I am a novice mountain biker who had a sudden opportunity to go to Moab, and I couldn't leave without biking it. Called a few places for a last minute tour, but no one could accommodate except for an excessive private single tour. But RimTours found me a spot for the following morning. They were out of standard rental bikes but offered me a fantastic price on a high end upgrade, which I eagerly accepted. Our guide Julie was a fun and enthusiastic biker, and also a great area guide pointing out features of the landscape and giving us history of the region, especially Desd Horse Point where we rode. She gave us great instruction on the bikes and the trail beforehand, and paused regularly to brief us on there next section of trail. She stopped us for explicit instruction on the couple technical areas of our trail, and her guidance let us blaze the rest of our half day trail with confidence and experience a thrill to remember! If you are an expert mountain biker you owe it to yourself to join the Durango high country tour only offered twice a year. Seventy five miles of uninterrupted singletrack (all on the Colorado Trail), over five days. Remote backcountry camps, none below 10000 feet. You have to climb at least one12000 ft pass all but the last day (where you descend 5000 vert. feet to D'go). This is an expert trip. Rim Tours is another outfitter I used to work for. This outfit does it right. If you want your hand held they may do it, but if you are a solid cyclist you will thrive on a Rim Tour. The guides know it all, and are willing to share. Meals will blow your expectations and hunger away. They have first rate bike rentals. Back in the day as guides we would groan at the thought of a lot of guests on rental bikes, but as the quality of suspension bikes went up, we realized that our rentals were better than 75% of our guests bikes from home. Many repeat guests are content to leave their high dollar rides at home in favor of the convenience of not traveling with or shipping bikes. read more

Just finished a 3-day tour with Brian Lugers and it was phenomenal. On day-1, we spent the 1st half of the day at Dead Horse Point, where we not only got in some great riding, but were wowed by the spectacular scenery. RimTours and Brian set us up with some good grub for lunch to refuel and then we spent the 2nd half of the day bombing down Great Escape and Getaway, ending with a little slick rock at Little Canyon. This was 15 miles of pure excitement! I felt like a kid again. The 2nd day we spent the entire day riding the Whole Enchilada, with a little extra credit to start the morning at Warner Lake. Such a nice relaxing single-track adjacent to a little creek, before shredding Hazard and Porcupine Rim. As if the views couldn't get any better, there were several views from Porcupine Rim trail that took my breath away. We capped the day off with SlickRock trail, which is riding like you've never done before (at least I hadn't). And I'm so glad we did. Even our 3rd day of riding was a treat. A short 10 mile ride before we had to shove off and I think it was the best scenery in Moab. All-in-all, Rim Tours ( and especially Brian) made this a trip we would never forget. The great hospitality and the undivided attention was felt the entire trip. I cannot say enough great things about our guide, Brian. He made sure we had a great time, both on and off the trail. Called them up for a guided mountain bike ride as soon as I got into town, they were very helpful on the phone. I signed up for Porcupine Rim, next morning. They include lunch with the ride, so they asked me what kind of sandwich I wanted. It was mid week, not sure how many trips they do a day, but I wanted to do Porcupine and they were doing it. They picked us up from Chile Pepper Bike shop and dropped us off at the trailhead, driver left with van, guide took us on this awesome ride. This was my first time to Moab and first ride, so having a guide was good since I otherwise would be riding alone. Our guide was pretty cool, he was a former bike mechanic at Chile Pepper, which was comforting since my brakes were acting up. The group was intermediate to advanced, so the ride took a little longer than I thought. One disadvantage with riding on a guided tour is getting stuck with people with different abilities. Some will go faster than you, others will go slower. In the end, the slowest person will dictate how long it takes. At the end of the ride, the van was waiting at the end of the trail and it included our lunch. Good sandwich. I would recommend them, especially since we saw others on a guided tour and they had to ride back to town on the road. It was nice to be picked up at the end. read more

I just had a phenomenal experience with Rim Tours in Moab last weekend. Phenomenal. These guys are pros and do it right. Our guide on day 1 for Slick Rock was Jenna. My five friends and I are reasonably skilled riders and in decent shape but as Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz, "Toto, we're not in Kansas any more." Mill Valley, CA in our case. Jenna gave us a great pre-ride prep talk and was super helpful throughout the ride. What too look out far. Super useful tips on how to ride this unique terrain etc. We had a blast. I'm pretty sure Jenna is part Mountain Goat too. So strong. Day 2 we did Porcupine with Carl. Again, phenomenal guide. Super cool guy. Carl gave us a great pre-ride prep talk ("When in doubt, chicken out!") and EXTREMELY helpful pointers along the route. He also shared a lot about the history of the area and its geological formation. One of the most fun, challenging and satisfying rides of my life. Thanks Carl. My technical mountain biking skills and confidence improved dramatically in those 2 rides thanks in large part to Jenna and Carl. And, it was stupid fun. The bikes, Santa Cruz Blurs and Tallboys, were in perfect shape. I think they clean and tune them EVERY night. If you are headed to Moab and considering a Mtn Bike guide I HIGHLY recommend Rim Tours. If you're going to Moab to ride for the first time, get a guide if you can. It allows you to relax and just ride. Rim made this trip extra special for me and my crew. read more

Had a fabulous intermediate mtn bike ride today with JennW on Intrepid trail. I have probably ridden 300 miles on a Specialized mtn bike, but have never had such great instruction and in turn confidence! The ride was the most difficult ride I've ever done because of the slick rock and some hills but a great trail with an excellent guide! I highly recommend asking for Jenn! About the trail: great for intermediate riders who seek a challenge. Several ascents and enough rocks and obstacles to challenge you. On the flip side; some great sweeping ups and downs, flat fast stretches and shelves to play on. Of course amazing scenery!!!! read more

It was a dream of mine to come to MOAB and ride Porcupine Rim trail... After some life altering events I decided to check things off my bucket list packed up the Xterra and the doge heading West! I arrived in MOAB a week after a week in Grand Junction CO. I called Rim Tours and left a message that I was in town and wanted a private tour. There was a fumble on receipt of the message but a local bike shop called them and Melissa at Rim took care of me right away. I was scheduled the following day. The follow up was tremendous. My tour guide, Bill was the bomb. After getting to know each other on the way up the mountain Bill kept me informed in what to expect etc etc. The most important thing is Bill communicated and paid close attention the first 30 min to take stock of my ability . He realized quick that I could handle it and just communicated through certain sounds that made it easy for me to follow his line, exactly what I was looking for. This organization was recommended to us by friends who used them in the past. We had a group of 6 middle aged men (Average age - 55). We scheduled 3 days of Mtn Biking on various trails. Our guide, Brooks, was AMAZING. He has that great ability to "listen" to his guest, but then "interpret" what they say. Everyone can listen, but interpreting exactly what the guest wants is the IMPORTANT part. He DID IT. I honestly don't think our trip would have been as enjoyable without him. Brooks was on time and prepared every morning. Had knowledge of the area and had the ability to relate with our group in an intellectual level. The Rim Tours facility is nothing fancy, so if you want fancy, this isn't for you. But they take excellent care of their bikes and the service is top notch. All the other guides we met were friendly and courteous as well. As I mentioned above, the bikes we rented were in excellent condition and were a JOY to ride. We had a wheel issue on one of the rides, but someone brought out a new bike to replace it for us. That is the kind of service you want to know about when reserving a trip. Over all, I don't think you can go wrong with this operation. Obviously, I think Rim Tours is the best option to for any of your tours in the Moab area. There are a lot of tour operator there also. I did a half day and then a full day with Rim Tours. They are a fantastic company. They went out of their way to make sure everyone in our group was taken care of, got us on the right trails for our ability level, and the bikes were new and in great condition. If you want to bike in Moab, they will try their best to make sure you have a great experience. Wandering into the backcountry without a clue is not a good idea in Moab, as evidenced by the many clueless people who asked our guide for directions and help on the trail.
