The bike rental process was smooth, with a good selection of well-maintained bikes at reasonable prices, and the staff were helpful. However, I was surprised by the additional $20 charge for picking up the bike at 4:30 PM the day before my rental. Since the shop opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 6:00 PM, and the trail shuttles leave at 8:00 AM, it's not practical to pick up the bike and catch a shuttle on the same morning. Perhaps this is standard practice among Moab rental shops, but in my experience renting bikes elsewhere, a "day" rental typically covers a 24-hour period. In this case, I picked up the bike at 4:30 PM and returned it around 4:00 PM the next day -- yet still paid $20 more than the quoted daily rate. read more

I was riding slick rock in the middle of the ride. My pedal literally fell off the mountain bike. I took it to a first bike shop, but unfortunately they didn't have the necessary parts so I took my bike to Rim Cyclery and it took some serious work but they were able to save the bike and prevent the frame from being damaged, very impressed with the shop and wish they were my local shop. Despite all the work the charge was $105 which seemed very low for the amount of work needed. read more

We returned to Moab for a second year in a row. It was great but the bikes got beat up on the bike rack from the trucks blasting them with slushy dirty snow from the freeways. when we arrived we were impatient to get on a ride and dove right in, but hit the horrible glue mud, and our bikes were in bad shape. Thankfully that's when we returned to Rim Cyclery for the second year in a row. We were in need of repairs and tuneups on 3 bikes, including installing new dropper posts on two bikes. The mechanic Cheyenne was extremely knowledgeable and set up the bikes perfectly and also gave us great recommendations on where to ride. It was tricky because there was snow above 5,800 ft and there were southern facing exposures and sandy rock formations that were awesome, and other areas that had frozen snow or wet trails with the occasional horrible glue mud, that we were able to avoid thanks to the whole crew at Rim. When we took the bikes out after the tuneup they worked perfectly! Cheyenne provided us with recommendations for shock pressures and adjustments, as well as tire pressures for the local area, etc. Hopefully we will be back again soon! read more

Rim Cyclery has deep roots in Moab so I picked up a couple of mountain bikes for me and my son to use, which we decided to do instead of bringing our bikes to Moab on a family trip. The shop is laid back, so you know, act accordingly and set your expectations accordingly. The bikes we got were in good shape but the tire pressure was way too low for the ledgy riding out there so I had to air them up. Not a big deal but could have been. All in all, good experience and would recommend checking them out for your riding needs. read more

When my rear hub disintegrated only one day into my Moab vacation, the guys at Rim really helped me out. Even though town was PACKED and their shop was hopping, Pat the mechanic immediately took my hub apart, showed me the damage, and called the manufacturer to start the warranty process. Since there was no way to get my bike up and running, Pat personally showed me all of the demo bikes they had to rent and got me back out riding. Then when I didn't think it could get any better, they happen to have THE exact bike my wife had been trying to find for a year; so I bought it and gave it to her for her birthday. We rented bikes for Slick Rock from Rim Cyclery. We rented a full suspension Scott e-bike and a full suspension Scott mountain bike. We were staying at an AirBnB close by so we reserved the bikes ahead of time. At the time of booking they took all our information and asked about our skill level and weight. When we went to pick up the bikes, they had notes on them indicating that they were set up for our weight. The bikes were in optimal condition and included a new water bottle that was ours to keep. The rental price also included helmets that were really clean and in good condition, not sweaty has-beens that other places provide. Cheyenne spent a good 10-15 minutes going over everything with us. The bikes go out with a pump and an extra tube and tire levers. I was impressed with the time they took. We did short test rides too makes sure the bikes were to our liking and then we got going. Note on Slick Rock: it was definitely challenging and for the extra $20ish dollars the e-bike was key for this old guy to be able to enjoy the loop. read more

This is a great shop. The front desk person was super helpful and the tech was inquisitive about our recent riding and plans. This place isn't some glitzy shop, but a really down-to-earth shop. Great equipment. We hadn't rented in Moab before and this place got my attention as a place I could get a full suspension bike for my 75 lb 10-year old. Couldn't find another shop that could. We've ridden Moab regularly over the past five years, and I've always had great experiences with Rim. This last trip, they bailed us our twice! My girlfriend's hydraulic brakes were seized, and I figured the brake lines would need to be flushed. We pulled into town and brought the bike to the shop *an hour after closing* - fortunately some of the staff were still there and took the bike in for repair. I expected the bike by the end of the next day - imagine our surprise when we got the call at 9 the next morning that the bike was done! The price was more than fair. The second save was when I discovered a broken spoke the morning of a big ride. I took the wheel to the shop right when they opened. They are usually busy with rentals first thing in the morning, but the mechanic was on hand and he repaired the spoke and trued the wheel while I waited. Again, a remarkably fair price. It's times like this that loyalty to a shop is built. We ride Specialized bikes, and they're a Specialized dealer. We've also rented bikes there in the past. The service has always been friendly and without pretention - decent, hardworking people. The pricing on bikes looks good too - if II were to destroy my bike on a Moab ride, I would not hesitate to buy a new bike at Rim to replace it. read more

Great bikes & great service! Took plenty of time helping us get the best bikes, recommend trails, and understand the area. You can tell the staff are riders themselves, and there is a very laid back vibe. They aren't in a hurry to get you in and out. I think it's the oldest bike shop in Moab! Service was great. They know a lot about bikes and have great bikes. Asked for our weight and adjusted suspension for us. They adjusted 4 bikes in about 15 min and gave us a shuttle to the nearest bike trails. They were funny and entertaining while we waited. We had tubeless tires but the bikes had kits under the seat with an inner tube and the tools. Loved it read more

Rim Cyclery exceeded my expectations for quick and friendly service, and for going the extra mile. I bent my derailleur hanger in a crash rendering my bike unrideable. Fortunately, Rim stocks the part I needed and sold it to me at a lower price than my local bike shop charges. I had planned on wrenching the repair myself, but Rim's mechanic offered to look at my bike to ensure that we had the right part. He then proceeded to amaze me with a ton of extra work and advice that he offered at no charge. First, he straightened my bent hanger so that I could have an emergency backup in the future. Then he installed the replacement part and swapped out the torx bolt with an allen bolt, so that it would be easier to field service (I don't have any torx wrenches in my kit yet). As he worked, he offered invaluable advice that is only available from years of experience. During the conversation, he lubed my chain, checked my tire pressure, examined my suspension linkage, checked my shifting and adjusted my front derailleur. I was absolutely blown away by his generosity. Clearly, Rim is at the top of my list of Moab bike shops and I'll be taking my business there to thank them for this remarkable experience. read more

I was going to go 2 stars but just looked at my credit card statement and decided to calm down a bit. I will get to that shortly. I have never bee in this shop in all my tears going to Moab. No real reason other then they are a block off Main St, never knew they were there and am (still) loyal to Poison Spider Cycles (see that review for comparison to this). I recently sold my mountain bike and wanted to demo 3 bikes in 3 days while in Moab. I got 2 from PS and one at Rim. These folks were pretty courteous when I reserved the bike over the phone a week in advance. They said they did not have the specific demo bike I wanted in my size but put me on hold and "found one". They were even very courteous when they called me two days before to tell me they did not have that bike but had a couple of fairly good options. Everyone was helpful when I arrived. So much so that 3 workers all tried to give me the bike overview and safety tips all at once and none were consistent. I have been mountain biking for 20+ years so it was a waste anyway i.e. "disk breaks are veeeery sensitive". Anyway what gets me is that I was told I would be charged for scratches that needed to be fixed, in addition to obvious damage that takes repair work and parts 9acceptable). But scratches!? I am not riding the road, I am riding Moab! Porcupine Rim! Then I was told if I got a flat, there were tubes in the sack and I would be charged $10. Are you kidding me?! I could buy one for $4 from your case. Plus, these are included in any other place's demo (see my Poison Spider Cycle review). I pay the standard rate of ~$70 per day and you're going to charge me for a tube? It gets better. After the ride I take my pedals off and have a buddy return the bike as I am not heading back into town. He calls me and said I must have taken their pedal washers when I took off the pedals and they were going to hit my credit card for another $5 for the .20 cent parts!!!! Really? I just check my credit card and they actually charged me $1.08. I am not sure how to feel about that. Is a credit card charge and time to do it worth the actual $1.08 and making a customer hate you enough to never go in there again and Yelp it to the rest of the world?! read more

What initially was a personable and quite pleasant encounter at Rim Cyclery turned sour at the end of the day's ride. The personnel was very helpful when we were renting our bikes, quite personáble with the expertise to put my wife and I on the right bicycles given our experience. We were pleased with this initial service. However, at the end of the day when we returned our bikes to the shop, before they had put all the rental bicycles away, in turning in our bikes we were hit with an extra late charge...and we were not late! The charge was insignificant, but being treated in such a way, being nickeled and dimed like we were, was intolerable...most unfortunate, and it saddened us to be treated Like that. For myself, I know I over-reacted and for that I apologize, but that doesn't diminish the reality of being treated with pecuniary, casual disregard. I sincerely hope that Rim's shop people practice a more benevolent attitude towards future clientele. read more

Without this shop our Moab trip would have gone off the rails! Sasha works there and guides too. He noticed on our ride that one dropper post cable needed replacing on a Tue at 5:00pm. He called ahead, we dropped it off and it was done for very little cost in an hour. Next am we noticed bad wear on a tire, brought it right by, and were out the door in 30 min with a new one. We talked trails and headed off. 2 hours later we hit mud on Jimmy Keen, had service to call them and they confirmed heading back was best option. We needed to clean the bikes so they offered hose, soap, bucket, brushes with a smile! Make this your go to shop, they are good people and it shows. read more
