We booked a private tour of the Canyonlands needle District online. The process couldn't have been easier. We found that Wild West voyages was very responsive and gave us periodic updates prior to our trip. On the day of our trip Jay picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the Canyonlands needle District. We can't see enough good things about our ghide Jay. He was informative, engaging, friendly, and really funny. We couldn't ask for a better guide. We stopped at various points and did two hikes in Canyonlands Totaling a little over 5 miles. Jay made it a point to keep the pace slow and easy. Wild West Voyages provided snacks, water, and a great lunch. We enjoyed our tour of the needles district so much that we immediately booked a white water rafting trip the following day. We spoke with Catherine at Wild West and she couldn't have been more helpful. She booked us for a rafting tour the very next day. Katherine and Whitney took care of us - from answering dozens of our questions and educating us about the river, to their hospitable attitudes, the customer service was amazing. Our kids (age 10 & 14) had fun doing the 2hr ropes course challenge. Our tour guide Z was awesome! She was very knowledgeable & encouraging & worked well with the kids. They spent the first 20min practicing on the ground (how to clip in/out, walk on wire, climb poles). They were able to do almost everything there, some were quite challenging but they did great! Try to get there at least 15min earlier to check-in, put on gear & practice before getting on the ropes course. read more

Our family really wanted to get into the Colorado river while visiting Arches and Canyonlands, but at the same time we didn't want to leave our dog behind. After some research looking for a pet friendly company, we found Wild West Voyages, which I think is the only company in town that will accept dogs on their boats. Following their suggestion we did the Big Bend to Moab Bridge portion of the river. What a wonderful experience! The scenery is unique, and floating close to the water makes is very relaxing. Everyone in the family, including the dog, had lots of fun! At the end of the trip, when we were already at the boat ramp below Moab Bridge the wind blew our kayaks into the river. The owners rescued the kayaks and refused to charge any extra fees. Very honest business. I will recommend it strongly to any friends coming to Moab. read more

We arrived in Moab in the afternoon with no plans and the owner was able to accommodate us with a fantastic plan to get us on the river with SUP rentals. Great overall services. I went at 4:30 pm on a Monday to try to get a Tuesday morning kayak trip (typical planning). Turns-out most places need two people to make it cost effective. Kimmie called other places as did I while there. Nothing seemed available, so she suggested buying two trips and I'd go alone w the guide. It was so enjoyable just being w the guide. At times I felt like I was the only one on the river, save for the passing rafts packed w tourists. Jesse, my guide, is a smart young lady who provided interesting information on the river. We made a couple of rest stops along the way, and I never felt rushed. We ran three Class IIs, which soaked me pretty well, and gave me a thrill experience. Steve, the driver, was also very informative and pleasant to chat with. I had a wonderful morning! I recommend this family-run fun company. read more

Amazing company with great little basecamp from which to launch your adventure. They make the rental process so easy and smooth, and it's a good deal for a full day of kayaking. We were really impressed by how friendly, professional, helpful and laid back the staff are. We happened to see some staff at our takeout point and because they were headed back to the office, offered to check in our equipment there, which meant we had more of the day to explore. Signed up for a guided kayak trip. The staff was very friendly and welcoming on arrival. There was a nice restroom and outside shaded waiting area. The drive to the launch site was beautiful. The guides provided a thorough instruction and safety talk. On the water our group was expertly guided through some challenging whitewater. We enjoy rafting and so my family and I were excited to head out with Wild West after reading the great reviews. We were not so impressed unfortunately. Part of the issue was the river, and that is beyond anyone's control. Rafting in July in Moab was a dud. The rapids were weak, and kind of a snooze fest despite the higher winter Colorado snows. On top of that our guide was preachy and not the most pleasant person to spend 2 hours with. For the cost per person, I'd spend my money on another activity. read more

This was a great tour group. My husband and I took a half day with our boys (ages 12 and 10). The staff were friendly and our guide Jay was excellent. The group specializes in this particular section of the Colorado River. Our guide has done over 1300 trips down this river and was full of knowledge regarding the river, the canyon, etc. He made the trip easy and fun and did all the work so we could soak in the scenery. Even during the van ride back after the trip, Jay was sharing interesting info re the canyon. Well done! read more

This is a well run business overall: helpful, friendly staff and beautiful scenery. The facility is in Moab (they are not on Main St. anymore) with a short shuttle ride to the raft launch area. We paid $240 for our family of 4 which seemed expensive to me but I am a miser by nature (1/2 day AM raft trip). My kids are not an easy bunch to deal with but they loved it (we have a 5 & an 8 year old). I was bummed that none of the patrons were able to paddle (the guide did everything!) but with 6 inexperienced people in the raft I can see how it could get dicey with oars flying all over the place. The kids were able to take turns on the main paddles and jump into the water in safe sections of the river. Our guide Chris was great and knew a lot about the river and was well versed in rafting. They hammered home safety, sunblock and water and provided all three nicely. They did provide snacks as well (cheez its, nature valley bars, starburst candies) which were disappointing to me due to selection and quantity but a hit with the kids. I would bring my own snacks since they do provide dry bags and our guide had storage under his seat (which was a big cooler). I got the feeling that it wasn't a great wildlife viewing day but we were able to see Canadian Geese, Swallows and their nests with babies, Great Blue Heron, a Bald Eagle Nest (no eagle though) and a few fish that we could not identify. The river "rapids" were weak which was great for my kids who are not very brave but maybe not great for thrill seeking adults or teenagers. We were told the smaller than average snowpack resulted in a drastic reduction in the flow of the river leading to smaller rapids and a more tranquil voyage. I would definitely use Wild West again but would like to see the rapids when the river is flowing better. Either way it's a fun thing to do in a hot place like the Moab desert and our whole family had a great time. read more

All of the staff we came into contact with was so caring and answered all of our questions!! Jay (the tour guide) answered all of the questions we had about the river and also was so informational about the river, rocks, and wildlife. Also made us laugh and have a good time.
