This would mean looking for a truck 7+ years old but with very low mileage. As my choices here in St. Louis were slim, I started searching online for a vehicle within 500 miles. I found quite a few but their Carfax reports hinted at less than desirable issues. I also found a few that seemed ideal but the dealerships were not to keen on having the truck brought to a local, reputable, mechanic to have the vehicle inspected bumper to bumper, under the hood, and on the road by an outside party. Most of them refused because the truck was "priced to sell" and "wouldn't last long". Some even argued that it was pointless to bring it to an outside mechanic as the dealership had their own mechanics. Ha...nice try. Enter Richardson Motors in Dubuque, IA... From the moment I spoke with Mitch, one of their "internet sales specialists", he was courteous, professional, and quite honestly...honest. We talked about the vehicle - a 2013 Nissan Titan SL - discussed price for a bit then I asked him to walk around the truck and inform me of anything he thought I might raise an eyebrow should I decide to purchase the truck sight unseen (except for a few pictures on their website) and have it shipped to me in St. Louis. He inspected the truck then called me back and gave me a vivid assessment of things I might find concerning. Next, I asked if he'd be willing to drop the ruck off at a local mechanic for inspection and he did exactly that within an hour of me asking! Well, the mechanic's report was thorough and overall very positive. He did tell me that there were some bulbs burned out, the wipers were worn, and a few other very minor issues. Once I was satisfied with the vehicle I dealt with their business manager, Vern, to further negotiate a price as well as compensation for the minor issues found by the mechanic. We quickly came to an agreeable price and they mailed me paperwork, overnight, with an enclosed overnight return envelope. This process was a little rocky as it took a few days to actually get the paperwork sent out on their end, but its nothing that would take away from my 5 star review. We were all navigating somewhat unchartered waters as not many people buy a vehicle in the fashion that I was doing and they, as nice as they are, don't need to waste time on a could-be buyer that may or may not actually buy the vehicle. Once my $$ was in their hands we had the paperwork completed, the truck shipped, and delivered within 24 hours. There were a few other ways this team, especially Mitch, went above and beyond to facilitate this oddball car purchase but this review is already turning in to a novel. In the end...I'm a very satisfied customer and I sincerely hope to give this dealership my business again in the future.

Texted salesperson was on our way & we got to the dealership ahead of our appt. and waited about 30 min for the salesperson and then saw the truck drive by, SOLD! Don't worry, Salesperson was sorry. Manager said the other person got there first. BS, they knew we were on our way and they sold it out from under us. Salesperson and the manager walked away laughing; definitely not good or honest business.

Next text there are supposedly another $3000 repairs. I called for explanation of 3 fuel charges that were the same price and no description. I never received an explanation from Gil or anyone else. I picked up there are 3 or 4 people, again they take my payment no explanation, In this situation, I would hope a Service Manager would explain the repairs and the options. I recently called to get my Tiguan appraised to see if the value justified the repairs or need investigate buying a new car. The Service Manager said I could make an appointment online or he would make the appointment. I ended the call. Do I want to work with a dealership that is clueless as McGrath? As a Sales Person, I would approach this entire Customer Experience differently. I am deciding if it is easier to go to another Volkswagen Dealer that respects me as a customer.

There was a little hiccup although Ryan quickly resolved and even had a driver send a car from Marion to Dubuque for me! Ryan provided information and stayed true to his word - which is refreshing! The only real problem I had was Clay (finance) really pushed an extended warranty. My father and I had said no multiple times. He even brought in another person to try and sell the warranty. I understand trying to sell you something, although this was a little too pushy!! Even with that, I would definitely recommend anyone buying a car to see Ryan and George at McGrath! I purchased my last two Silverado's there since 2018 and I guess the keyword is last. I'm done. I put quite a few miles on vehicles and I have to turn them over every 3 to 5 years. I do most all the recommended services and oil changes every 5000 miles. They lost my business. The management team there must be pretty awful because the service advisors have been turning over quite often lately. I'm there for an oil change about every six weeks and there's always someone different at the service counter and there's always different car sales people.

We called for information, Brandon, who answered the phone was unable to answer a majority of the questions as he specialized at their Nissan store vs the BMW. We then spoke with Donny the sales manager to try and answer some of questions like why they don't certify pre owned vehicles at the dealership. We gave Brandon a list of items that we needed before committing to coming to see the car - Car fax, service reports we specified that any damage to the windshield would be a deal breaker. Images of my car were requested and I was asked to point out every flaw. I was given a dollar range that I was trying to negotiate on. I was told that if my car was in as good of shape as I said and photos showed where we would be sitting. We decided that it would be worth a drive to see the X4 BMW and was told it would be cleaned and ready for us. I was impressed that Brandon took time to try and learn every detail of the car to be able to speak knowledgably with us. However, the car with cream interior was anything but clean. For a luxury car dealership I would expect the cars to be immaculate. There was long grass in the hatch back, the seats were dirty and it felt like there was some type of cleaning product that wasn't wiped off leaving a sticky residue on the steering wheel and the gear selector. As we started to test drive the car the HVAC was not working on a very hot day. I was understanding about this. We decided this wasn't the car for us. We decided to look at another BMW, this time an X5. Brandon took us to the BMW dealership to Jeremy who is a certified BMW dealer. Jeremy did a nice job of demonstrating the selling points - this car was cleaner than the last but was not as clean as would be expected. At this point it is now past 3 in the afternoon we had been on the road to the dealership at 5 AM and we were exhausted. I should have left at this point and called the day a wash but, we decided to talk numbers. They did not keep to value Donnie had offered us for our 2018 Audi which was in very nice shape. They dropped the offer by 2k and stated it needed new tires. Yet another opportunity to leave that we should have taken but did not. (After the trade and sale my Audi was listed on their site as a clean trade with a profit of $7000 it still had the original tires.) We are still working with Jeremy and Brandon on the BMW X5. None of the flaws on their car are pointed out to us - paint chips, missing floor mats etc. During the deal they never offered us the Car Fax, Service reports, the interest rate was told to us was inaccurately and never told us when our first payment would be. During one of the waiting periods I told Brandon that the service reports shared with us on the X4 still had the personal information of the previous owner. He was aware. So, know that your privacy is not secure with this dealership. I now know the personal information of the Surgeon who had owned the car before. We decided that we would work with the deal and trade that they offered us and bought the X5. In hind sight, after some much needed sleep I know we left too much money on the table and this was a bad deal. However, I can't fairly hold the dealership fully responsible for this horrific deal, we made. It is now 6:45 PM and we are on our way home in the X5. This is where our truly poor experience starts. Our salesmen failed to point out the filled quarter size rock chip on the passenger side of the front windshield. We texted Brandon, as it is closing time "he will talk with everyone tomorrow". We continue on our 6 hour journey home. I emphasized again this was a deal breaker for me and asked what could be done. Jeremy calls me and my husband the next day to check in. I told him about the windshield issue and he said he and Brandon would figure it out. I asked for the missing Car Fax and service reports. Jeremy said that he would email those to me. Jeremy did email but only to ask for a five star Google review, none of the info I asked for. When I reached out again Jeremy was sorry he had been busy with customers. I reached out AGAIN and the response was that they needed to talk with Chad the owner and we will get something figured out. Another day passed with no information and when I reached out again, to them again they were too busy with customers. At this point I am now realizing that I am not a customer any more. They only care about the person signing on the dotted line- there is no after care at this dealership and no one is willing to stand behind their word. I finally state that I am willing to drive the 6 hours to cancel this deal and just trade back cars. Finally I got a little traction and get a text message from Mike sales manager. In the end they decided to not fix anything.

We started looking at the outside of them and a salesman walked up from the building which was nice. They liked a gunmetal grey model but could not really see inside. I asked him if he could get the keys and open this one so they could sit in it and check out the fitment. The salesman said to come down to the building and go from there. I said but the vehicle is here they want to see why would we go way down there? I asked again if he could just open this one so they could see it. Meanwhile it was 38 degrees and a little windy as my parents are standing there. He said again come down to the building and go from there. I got agitated and asked why he thinks I should have my 80 year old parents walk over 100 yards down to the building in the cold when we are standing at the vehicle they want to see??? He said "Well whatever, if they want to see this Explorer come down to the office and get the keys!" Waved his hand and walked away. Boy was I pissed! Took my parents over to Chevrolet where they came out and opened any cars they wanted to see. Done ranting for now. I'll remember that experience for a long, long time.

All three parties dealt with this. All are trustworthy and told me it needed a minor repair like a muffler. Big A Auto told me the entire under area of car had been messed up from someone who didn't know what they were doing. He said it'd be $2,000 to fix it. At the time I thought maybe the college driver had let someone work on it so I paid it. My mistake as I didn't take time to think it thru. I know the folks I bought it from were honest and long time friends. Big A lied. They showed me of a fuzzy gray video t was supposed to be the problem area but of course it meant nothing to me and was just part of the deception. I will never go back to Big A again. Since I am an older woman needing the service I think they felt they could lie to me about the car.

So because I'm a woman they bullshit me with "it's probably just a censor or something no big deal And when I ask questions they act like im crazy and causing a scene. Sometimes they even charge me just to look at the vehicle. well now they claim that my frame is rotted through funny you did the back brakes a year ago and mentioned zero about frames or rust. So they won't send me any pictures of said rust they neglected to mention. So I call to ask which part if it was the rear subframe that was the issue and they literally wouldnt answer me and told me to take it to another shop because they won't work on it. Gee so glad I drop $1000 every time for absolutely nothing! Still no heat and still have the brake lights on the dash. Don't waste your time on a lousy offer to refund the windshield wipers. they are overpriced and do half ass work then treat u like u r the problem because they don't listen or care about you and it is the most ridiculously expensive place but the only shop located downtown. I have taken 5 cars to them and they encourage me to junk them because they are too lazy to do the work and to do it right the first or second time so third times isn't a charm. they said I could go drive it for the next year yeah right so me and my kid can be on the highway and the frame fall off her thanks so does that make them liable for oyr lives and any property damage bc they were the only ones who I paid $1400 to fix my vehicle and they instead basically totaled it on me and blamed me for it. Well we barely had snow this winter and MY CAR HAS NO HEAT SO I COULDNT EVEN DRIVE IT THIS WINTER! and they still have never produced photos from any other visit although they claim the rust is much worse than last year and claim they sent them. So they send another message saying here's from last year and guess what the link wasn't to anything! They are full of shit to be charging me $1300 and telling me to take it to another shop and not answer a simple yea or no question about the sub frame. They claim to have some super diagnostic computer yet couldn't even figure out why the brake light and abs lights were on (Which is diagnostic obviousl so dont get ripped off and disrespected) take your car to a reputable auto shop who will work with you on price and will not do a worthless inspection on other stuff while not correcting the issue you are being over charged on parts and labor for. Even my alero brakes went out two days after they repaired the brakes. well This was the last second chance they get with me. U fortunately I will have to take my vehicles across town but if I'm getting actual customer service it's worth it. This place is a joke.
