It's been a few years but I am still fuming about when I brought in my Hyundai Elantra for a minor…read moreproblem. I bought the car from a family who lived next door to a good friend of mine. All three parties dealt with this. All are trustworthy and told me it needed a minor repair like a muffler. Big A Auto told me the entire under area of car had been messed up from someone who didn't know what they were doing. He said it'd be $2,000 to fix it. At the time I thought maybe the college driver had let someone work on it so I paid it. My mistake as I didn't take time to think it thru. I know the folks I bought it from were honest and long time friends. Big A lied. They showed me of a fuzzy gray video t was supposed to be the problem area but of course it meant nothing to me and was just part of the deception. I will never go back to Big A again. Since I am an older woman needing the service I think they felt they could lie to me about the car.

Matt is an absolute angel!!…read more The steep pitch of the Ichiban exit (yes I was driving at a normal speed and yes others have had the same trouble! - but no, the restaurant hasn't fixed it ) caused my car to bottom out and knocked my bumper RIGHT OFF!! We heard a bang and a scrape so immediately pulled over in to the first parking lot, which happened to be Vaughn's Automotive. We called the 24 hour emergency number and Matt came right over to help us! He patched us back together so we could safely drive until we can get a more full repair. He was competent, he was kind, he was helpful, and he was funny ... he took a bad situation and made it as good as we could've hoped for. This is a great and honest and kind man! You can feel confident about placing your trust in him! I drove from Rockford to visit my daughter and thanks to Matt, we still made it to line dancing!!

Matt, the owner, picked me up at home, took me to the car, ran the codes, and figured out the issue was a loose air intake duct. He tightened that and my car was good to go! If I had gone to anyone else, like a BMW dealership, I'm sure they would have taken advantage and overcharged me for a simple fix. I'll be having all my cars worked on at Vaughn's. He's earned a lifetime customer. Best experience I've ever had with a mechanic... Honest and dependable! That's what you want in a mechanic shop and that's exactly what Matt and Vaughn's delivers!

Whenever I move from one place to another, the biggest adjustment is dealing with RVA or relocation…read morevendor anxiety. Or more specifically, dealing with the loss and replacement of a favorite grocery store, haircut place, or auto service center. I had a great reliable mechanic in Chicago, and after four visits here, I think I've found another good one. Liebold is located conveniently near downtown Galena. In those four visits, I've only spent about $50, which is a major coup with any mechanic. Two of of those were actual service, and two were my hearing noises, bringing the car in for diagnostics where they found nothing. Kudos to them for putting up with my "mechanichondriac" tendencies and of course with mouthing the noises for them when I bring the car in. Living in a small town, you know, word of one's eccentricities tends to get around fast, and I could get a "reputation." On all four visits, I was able to hang out and wait at their shop and peruse the nice variety of outdated magazines, watch and laugh at animal videos on my smart phone, so it was the auto service equivalent of fast food. The fact that on two occasions they didn't charge me a cent (to find nothing was wrong) is a good way to guarantee I will be back to annoy them in the future. Thanks, guys. You're better than Paxil.

1-Star Review -- Extremely Disappointed With Service…read more I went into Midas for a simple oil change and was originally quoted $130, which already seemed a bit high. After signing the paperwork, the appointment took over an hour for what was supposed to be a basic oil change and "inspection." When they were finished, the total suddenly jumped to $180, even though no one informed me of any change in price beforehand. They also did NOT put an oil change sticker on my windshield and didn't reset my service indicator on the dash -- basic steps any shop should complete. The worst part? The very next day, after washing my car, I noticed my entire underbody plastic shield hanging down, attached by only one or two bolts. This was not like that before I arrived, and it could have easily caused damage if it had come off while driving. Overall, the experience felt careless and unprofessional. I expected a routine oil change, not extra charges, missing steps, and potential damage to my car. I won't be returning.
