1-Star Review -- Extremely Disappointed With Service I went into Midas for a simple oil change and was originally quoted $130, which already seemed a bit high. After signing the paperwork, the appointment took over an hour for what was supposed to be a basic oil change and "inspection." When they were finished, the total suddenly jumped to $180, even though no one informed me of any change in price beforehand. They also did NOT put an oil change sticker on my windshield and didn't reset my service indicator on the dash -- basic steps any shop should complete. The worst part? The very next day, after washing my car, I noticed my entire underbody plastic shield hanging down, attached by only one or two bolts. This was not like that before I arrived, and it could have easily caused damage if it had come off while driving. Overall, the experience felt careless and unprofessional. This review is for the Dubuque Iowa Midas shop on JFK Road. Set up appt for a $29 oil change and tire rotation. Went in with coupon and the person at the counter indicated that the coupon only applies to vehicles that dont requuire full synthetic oil. Strange that the manager took my appt and was aware the vehicle I was bringing in was a 2019 Chevy Colorado and didn't indicate the coupon wouldn't apply. DO NOT FALL for the coupon offer - confirm on the phone if your vehicle applies and get it in writing beforehand. Very sketchy promotion and lack of up front honesty by manager. read more

I don't normally do this type of thing, but when it comes to Midas and my experience I had no choice. I am a college student and when I went in for an oil change and knew it would be somewhat pricey but I needed it done. Of course in the middle of the oil change they came to me with a paper with everything I needed fixed/replaced. First was the breaks which I decided I should do with winter right under our noses, but then I saw that they priced me almost 400$ for my sway bar links to be replaced, and I am so glad I said no to that service, because I called another auto place and they said for my exact make and model of vehicle the total including labor would be $165. Im sorry but Midas is way to over priced for things at this point I could do myself. This was the first time visiting this establishment and certainly my last. read more

I just needed brakes replaced and guy starts to upsale me on stuff I don't need and refuse to give me simple price on parts and labor

This past weekend my 16 year old daughter and I brought her 2005 Camry to have her exhaust repaired and to have her brakes checked. We were told that her rear brakes were a mess - probably the original - and needed to be totally replaced at the cost of over $1,000. We wisely sought a second opinion. We went to Firestone this morning. They told us that the brakes had actually been replaced within a year and that no service was necessary. This is deception and a shameful attempt to STEAL $1,000 from my daughter's hard-earned money. We will not do anymore business with Midas and highly recommend if you take the risk, that you make sure you always get a second opinion! read more

They make things up. None of them are ASE certified. 9/18/24 They don't Torque wheels or lugs to spec and where smoking cigs in the shop around mine and other customers cars. Lied about the oil change price and wasn't up front about it. Car was a Quart low after just having an oil change. Wanted something checked out and all they did was Blame Shift. took it into a local shop in town right after for a second Opinion of my choice, that my mechanic paid for and found they made everything up besides the one lose part. Tried saying the work that was just done by someone with actual credentials left everything lose. Only one nut backed off because of how it was machined! Part was pulled and they found the issue. I provided the parts... He insisted it was still his fault and took full accountability. He showed himself on camera, that he torqued everything to manufacture specs provided from shop key. Also used thread locker like it said too. Ben the manager came off as super unprofessional and sketchy. Called my friend names and was very childish on recording. It started out good with online appointment at 1:30pm, just a oil change. Then at 15:12 its done. Then guy pulled truck up in front of door, i paid, the guy was, what i thought was adjusting my passenger mirror on the 2010 chevy truck. He blocked my view, i did not notice the damage at that time. When i left i was making left hand turns. Traffic was clear. At 2:33pm i stopped atsuper stop on hill st. Got gas. Stll did not notice broken mirror. Leftgas station, went down hill st to locust. Got to hwy 20/dodge st to go on bridge, i was in the left lane when i noticed my broken mirror cause i was checking to see if anyone was on my right side I called midas at 2:43 and informed them they broke my mirror. They said they'd call back. I waited 10 minutes and called again at 2:51pm. I was home and they to comeback. 20mins I was back, the mechanic that did the damage went on break. Of they denied any wrong doing. I went back to gas station and got snapshot of when I was there and the mirror was hanging. All midas did was hide the person at fault, denied everything. Just manipulative asses. They break stuff...know, hide it. Absolute Jerusalem. Dubuque midas manipulative jerks. Don't go there!​ read more

I went in to get an oil change done because I didn't have enough time that day to do it myself. Thankfully they have quick service. While I was picking up my car I was told my car was leaking large amounts of oil (It was not prior to) and handed a lovely paper (which I would usually appreciate) with all of the service that needs done on my engine and my brakes (I already knew about the brakes). I was blatantly told to "Let them know" when I want to get it fixed. Driving the next day my check engine light came on and indeed my car is now (after their service) leaking large amounts of oil. Of course my car does need some work but I do feel like they took advantage of me because I am a young female and it's easy to assume that I don't pay attention to or know how to do general maintenance on my car. I don't recommend Midas at all. Once I expressed what had happened to a family member she told me the same thing happened to her husbands vehicle. read more

Came in today just to get an oil change and the guy who waited on me had a very negative attitude. And was very rude to me. I don't recommend going there if you want friendly service. Got me in for an oil change right away. They are super friendly and nice. It's a little pricey, but everywhere else had a long wait time or was closed on a Saturday. Gave 4/5 stars because it took about 30 minutes for them to get the filter delivered to them from Napa. Took a little over an hour and a half total, with no one ahead of me. read more

I've been taking my car to Midas for the last five years, and I have nothing but good things to say about their staff. I am sure they are not the cheapest shop in town, but they've always been friendly, respectful, and fair. Whenever I have a question, they always take the time to answer it. If they're recommending a repair, they explain what it is and why it's needed without being condescending. Most importantly: they have never taken my business for granted. On more than one occasion, they've even done minor repairs at no charge! A great crew. read more

I've been traveling across country, and just chose Midas out of convenience for my oil change, and I was very pleased with the service I got. Plus $30 is pretty reasonable for an oil change. Mike was very friendly on the phone, and had no problem accommodating me with a same day appointment. I left to run and errand and they were done before I returned. I wasn't overcharged or harassed with all the 'extra' stuff. They treated my truck based on what I needed, not just to get me to buy as much as possible. While I was traveling from Wisconsin to Illinois my 2006 VW Jetta TDI broke an accessory belt. I had to spend the night and look for a place to get it repaired. Took it into the Midas store and they quoted me $214.00!!!! I know the belt is only $20 so why the expensive labor? And I know it's not that difficult of a job. So why the expensive labor? Because their seems to be a rate increase on imports AND diesels because most shops are haters of good cars that get great gas mileage. And it might be because Midas overprices their labor. Who knows! Probably won't recommend Midas in the future though. read more

I took a perfectly good running car to Midas for an oil change. When I went to pick it up it ran horribly, the muffler was very loud.

They were able to change my oil quickly and the staff is quite helpful. I gave them four stars because I found them a bit pricey. I usually go to a dealership, but there were no openings. read more

I am so beyond pleased with the service I got at Midas. I came in for a basic oil change and found out all these things about my car that past shops have neglected to see. They physically brought me to my car and showed me the repairs that I needed. They noticed instantly that I was hesitant to get the repairs and they made the connection that I wouldn't be able to afford it because I'm still in school. They worked with me to find the best deals and helped me sign up for a Midas card, where I can make payments on my repairs and not have to pay for it out of pocket. Typically, I have had wonderful experiences with many different Midas locations. The Dubuque location though, not so much. I asked them to quote my brakes for me after I had gotten a quote from another shop that I thought was high ($675). They looked at the brakes, told me it was going to me $925 for new front brakes. When I told them that I didn't want them to replace the brakes, he proceeded to tell me that he pulled a part out too far and can't put the car back together. He left me NO choice but to go to Midas for almost $300 more than the other place. I did not initially tell him to do any work; I simply asked for a quote. I used to love Midas, but after this experience, I will never go back to the Dubuque location. read more

Went there for an oil change and to have my trunk looked at since it would not open. I was told that I needed new breaks and asked for an estimate. They wanted almost $1000 to get them done. The guy was very pushy trying to get me to get them done that day. I called around and their are places way cheaper than that. I also had someone else look at them and say that I don't need new breaks. Be careful for what they tell you. Seems like they try to pull a fast one. Oh and they never looked at the trunk so it still doesn't open. read more

Just when you think Midas started making changes for the better, but then go there and see it only got worse. Seems like they have a high employee turn over, and now they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Years ago it was a very nice professional shop, now its like a backyard garage. The new manager is completely lost and just rude, he was very nice until we approved the repairs. It was like a light switch, all the sudden the manager was very rude. I complained about one of the mechanics smoking near my car in the shop with the windows open. I told him I didn't want the car smelling like smoke I just had it detailed. His reply was it will be fine. Isn't it illegal to smoke in the shop anyways? Oh well. Lesson learned. read more

While we were out of town visiting Galena, my car broke down (on a Friday night at 10 PM) and the only place open on a Saturday that could take the car in was Midas. They were very helpful and after discovering a VERY big problem stayed open until 8 PM that night (they close at 4) to make sure it was fixed. They were very friendly and for all the work done gave us a VERY good price! It's this kind of service that is so rare and SO appreciated! read more

Charged me $100 for a simple diagnostic test and told me that the reason it cost so much was because the technician had to pay for the device. Tax write-off? Do I pay $100 for a hamburger because the grill cost $5,000? read more

The staff was great here, but the pricing was very bad. My husband's car was making a lot of noise when he was breaking, so he took it there. The people there seemed very knowledgeable, and they seemed to have fixed the issue, but the cost of the part they charged him was very expensive, plus the labor cost on top of it. The most unreasonable part was the cost of the part. My husband compared the cost of the part on many websites, and found that Midas actually charged more than triple the cost of the part. When he went back to Midas to question a worker about why he was charged so much, they basically explained that that was how they made their money. I'm not doubting this, but I'm sure there are other places that could give the same great service and work, and not charge that much of a mark-up. My husband asked to speak with a manager, but there was none in at the time. They told him the manager would get back to him about it, but that never happened. read more
