I brought my laptop in because it would no longer boot up correctly after running Norton Utilities and the automatic repair tools wouldn't work. I was told that the prognosis was pretty grimm and we could recover the data, but would have to restore the OS an reinstall all of the software, etc. They were very friendly and just trying to be honest, which I appreciate. They said they would try a few things, but weren't optimistic. Well, I'm glad I didn't listen. I did a 5 minute search on Google that led to an article that took me through (step-by-step) fixing the problem in 3 minutes. My computer was immediately back to being FULLY functional with no loss of data or programs. I guess this would be a 5 start review had someone said: those are hard errors to fix, but we can look online and research to see if there are fixes out there for this type of problem. I would have left them my computer. But would they have searched or just come to the conclusion that a wipe of the computer was the only fix? Note: I consider myself to be very computer literate and only went looking for "expert" help when I couldn't figure out a resolution. In hindsight, I now realize i could have done a google search earlier and saved myself a trip.

I had no viruses as he claims he fixed. My only issue was the computer was shutting down by itself because of overheating caused by a build up of dust inside the cabinet . THAT IS ALL that was wrong with my computer... and that should have been a $ 75 to $100 service call for opening the case and blowing out the dust with a can of air, not $275 that he actually charged me by inventing the fictitious accounts of viruses and memory issues and all kinds of spyware. He kept the computer for 48 hours to do a 10 minute service, so it would appear that he actually performed hours of work that he did not do. He called me several times during this 48 hour period..each time adding more claims of problems I had and imaginary work he supposedly completed. If he actually did all the claimed...why did he not give me an invoice or receipt after several times that I asked him for that by phone and e-mail. These requests for this invoice or receipts have all been ignored by this man who goes by the name of JR Kennedy. He talks in previous messages about " us " as to claim his company "faster computer " has several top notch IT employees when in reality ..he is the only person in his company that he apparently runs out of his car. Be sure that if you do have him work on your computer after all you are now aware of...that you pay him by check made out to his business and not his name as he requested of me. A legitimate business person would have you make payment to be payable to his business and not to him so he could pay his credit card bill as he claimed when I asked him why . I could go on here with more cautions about dealing with this bozo...but that will just cause him to write more lies back to try and cover his tracks. This all needs to end sometime ..and maybe he can just get on with his life ..as I plan to ...and I will just chalk this bad experience up to " live and learn " although I will still spread the word to all of my family and friends in this greater Bellingham / Franklin area so they won't get ripped off by this bozo , as I did. Nice guys who are plenty smart, but they do not have an adequate repair bench for complex computer…read moreproblems, and they don't do a great job of listening to customers. Additionally, they are not diligent enough in diagnosis. The result in my case was that I paid them $50 diagnostic fee without actually receiving a diagnostic and with them asking me to buy RAM so they could test out my computer with new RAM (because they didn't have sufficient parts on hand). I would go to this shop to buy a PC or for basic support. I would not go to this shop for support on truly complex PC problems. I brought in a home-built PC with stability issues. I didn't have the time or interchangable parts to diagnose the PC myself, but needed it diagnosed and fixed as I used it for statistical analysis work. I ran the guy who checked me in through the steps I had taken (chkdisk and related), but he did not take adequate notes at check in. As a result, they held on to my computer for two weeks running the same checks. As I found this out, I informed the other guy who ran diagnosis on the computer I had completed all these checks. At this point, he insisted I needed to buy RAM so the computer shop could evaluate the issue with new RAM. This is a very strange request. Any shop worth it's own salt should have the interchangable parts and testing bench necessary to diagnose things without requiring the customer buy parts for the shop to do so. As he had been telling me inaccuracies about my hardware such as (1) MB can't handle the RAM I have in it because it is wrong speed (MB can handle it, it just has to be set to OC in bios) and (2) that my RAM was only 16 gb (wrong, it is clearly 4 sticks of 8 gb per stick), I decided to take the computer to a big box tech store nearby (who also failed to diagnose correctly). Upon pickup, the guys at the shop told me they believed I had a failed graphics card and RAM issue. I ended up doing the diagnosis myself a month later when my time freed up and figured out that I had (1) a corrupt windows install, and (2) a corrupted bios that was causing very strange MB behavior. I replaced no parts, just did a clean bios flash and a clean install of Windows. I am writing this review on the exact same PC, same parts, completely stable. However, I am sore that I paid $50 bucks and lost my home desktop for several weeks for nothing, and that I then solved the issue in about 2 days of my own work.

Cliff and his employees are friendly and even explained and let me watch as they debugged. They are in New England and I am not, but they use remote login and have always been able to help me resolve the issue. I always go to PC Doctectives because they are reliable and trustworthy and I highly recommend them. I've read that other review and I've got to say that I have no idea what that person is talking about. Cliff and his team have always been professional and friendly.
